Maybe not, but you have to admit, singing the care for a king or queen, when a good portion of people struggle, and the people you are singing about have no real way of understanding your life, because they don't have any worries, apart from a few family members straying out of line. As long as they keep their keep. I feel very English but the anthem means very little to me.

Rugby players used to be held up as an example of singing the national anthem = winning. Then the England rugby team didn't get out of the pool at a world cup. As if it makes the slightest difference to anything. |

I wasn't aware that singing the national anthem was a pre requisite or mandatory for England managers. A fair few of the team don't sing it, many thousands of the crowd don't sing it. Who really cares? Each to his own.

Here we go again Other countries sing about their proud nation whereas we Many British gold medal winners at the Olympics never sang it, many players of other sports never sing it so why the fuck is it an issue only with football These threads have been done time and time again and usually when it was TAA who sings the fucking thing It’s something that’s been covered many many many times so it needs fucking off I’m out |

Apparently he has never sung a national anthem, even when playing for Ireland. He reckons the reason is to do with focusing on the game in hand rather than through any objection to God or royalty. Capello didn't sing it either.
For those on here who say he should not be the manager if he refuses to sing the anthem, does that sentiment apply to players who choose not to participate in it?

It’s a horrendous anthem that says nothing of the achievements of ordinary people; instead focusing solely on the monarch, in a country where many people are either indifferent to feudalism or see it as an anachronism.
Compare it to land of my fathers, which speaks of the beauty of wales and the culture/heritage; and it’s clear to me why our anthem inspires such controversy compared to theirs.
