Apologies. I included the WBA game before he joined when we drew 1-1. You are correct. Millwall was his first game. 0-0. Original post updated. Thank you

We don't want another Manger who is learning on the job. He has no record of bossing higher than the Championship, & that is where we are aiming for. Higher than the Championship. I think that we should be looking for someone who will get us promoted, & can stay there with us. In other words, someone with Prem. pedigree. Flash the money, & there will be people who fill this job criteria. Schumacher will only get us so far in the Championship. That's if he's successful. We should be aiming for better than that. To be fair any foreign manager appointed to an English team is learning on the job as English League football is far more intense week in and week out. Many English managers we could realistically appoint are either dinosaurs or failed in the Premier. I can't think of a manager I would prefer. Even Espirito Santos who I was quite keen on is struggling to make an impact at Forest.

Yes, much higher and regularly, compared to our best of 14th place since relegation. Rowett since he left, although he's the manager who's arguably most responsible for the mess we've been in for a few years. That's not higher than the Championship. Read what I wrote. There's nothing stopping you from using Google but.. Neil got promoted with Norwich and managed them in the Premier League.

Yep and got relegated the following season and sacked the following one when he didn't look like getting them back up.

I just wished people just wouldn't post stupid questions like this. The vast majority of people questioned have no idea about Schumacher! They have np personal experience of this manager on a day to day basis. They are not privy to this man doing his job. He has inherited players that were not his. There are clear signs of progress on the field of play. If this club is to progress it will definitely need its fans behind the club. Questions like this are unproductive and need binning! just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be posted , it’s a board for ppl expressing their opinions so the OP is perfectly valid , you don’t like it don’t read it , it’s that simple No he's right. It's been covered extensively in the other tread.

It's a no from me. He's shown nothing to suggest he's the man to take us forward. He is what we are at the moment, and that's a low end Championship side. It'd be nice to have an owner that could think out of the box instead of reverting to basic's in managerial appointments, cause it clearly isn't working.

For the weekends game, I'll return it back with our home game VS Leicester and what did you think? That's not the mentality I'd want from someone who's meant to be my gaffer.

There's no evidence he can make the club a top half team. On the other hand he hasn't exactly performed badly enough to be replaced.
I guess it depends on what the clubs aspirations are.

If we stay up he's succeded and if we go down he's failed. It's pointless coming to a verdict now and it's daft to judge him on the basis that he hasn't come in and turned us into a top half team.
The fact is we have been relegation candidates all season and that would have been true under any manager. There is only one criteria for success this season and that is avoiding relegation and he hasn't done that yet. If we avoid relegation he stays for me and if we go down he goes.
We had a huge turnover last summer and the transformation of the squad was only half done. We tried to sort out the attack and it didn't come off and we made a complete pigs ear of the defence and have struggled all season as a result. However we've made in some really good players and get those other areas right we could do a lot better next season under Schumacher if we stay up. Go down and there will be a queue at the managers door wanting out and the job becomes a whole lot harder.

Has got to be given next season, with the squad he has had to work with, keeping us up will be job done, don’t get this about Ennis and Cundle, Mmaee was causing problems and someone had to come in or we were in big trouble, Cundle is a tidy little player who gets up the pitch well, and could become a good asset, if they decide to go down that route, I’m convinced that the club didn’t want to spend the money that was available to them in January, they thought they had enough to get over the line, not pay the inflated January fees, and keep their power dry for this pre- season, at least I’m hoping so.

I completely agree. For ten years we were flying high in the Premier League and for three of those years we were the 9th best club in England! We played an FA Cup final and competed in Europe. Has all that been forgotten? Are there no aspirations to return to the top flight? Surely, the whole point of the Championship is to secure promotion to the Premier League? That's the essence of the very existence of the Championship. Each club starts the season in the hope of being promoted. I'm willing to give Schu another season to prove himself. All we need to do is finish 6th and we have a chance of promotion. Who knows if he can make it happen? Or will my son's kids have had their own kids and I am dead and buried before we get promoted to put the great city of Stoke-on-Trent on the sporting map once more?

The responses in this thread and the 'who should we sign?' thread are interesting. In one thread most seem to think we need massive turnover as only a handful of our players are good enough at this level, but here it seems like the expectation was that Schumacher would take those same players and immediately turn them into a good Championship side.

Mixed opinions all around on here. After the euphoria of the win at the weekend - which doesn’t leave us safe yet, if bizarre results keep on happening - mean that the our approach to 1st Southampton and then Bristol are still very important.
The Southampton game is very interesting. I want to believe we have improved, found a pattern of play, tightened the defence and found a way to score some goals and this game gives Schumacher the chance to showcase all of that against a very good Championship side who are destined for playoffs rather than auto promotion. They play at Leicester tonight which will be tough.
If all the positives I referred to above are true we should be approaching Saturday with positivity and be going there to try and win the game, not cower into a defensive formation (that we find hard to execute) because we are playing a top team and don’t believe we can beat.
I think how he sets up on Saturday, how we play and what we achieve will provide important evidence about where we stand and whether the improvement is real.

Yes, I expect he will revert to all negative against Saints and we get a drubbing and this MB will have everyone demanding he is sacked. That's what fans do! Just for good measure, all the other clubs at the bottom will win. Then everything will be on the line for the last match. Just thought I would post that so it doesn't happen.

The stats speak for themselves, a few decent results amongst a wave of shite.
I’d give him 3 out of 10 and be wishing him well at the end of the season while we start to look for a replacement.
Sadly we aren’t the right club to develop an apprentice manager.

I like him. He's had a difficult task to keep us up when we looked destined for relegation for a time.
That being said, just because I like him doesn't mean I think he's the man to take us back up. Really difficult decision for the owner - of which both keeping him and swapping him will likely end in another season of piss.

I'm still massively torn.
I like him, a lot. He's shown some really positive signs, is learning and I think the players enjoy playing for him.
But, we should be home and hosed now, after Rotherham in January we were 10 clear of the relegation spots and we needed a steady hand until the end of the season. It's looking likely we'll be going into the final game still needing something. He absolutely crapped himself after losing to Brum and Sunderland and it's taken SJW coming in to steady the ship.
Hopefully that relationship though, SS and SJW, is one which flourishes.
I'm just massively worried we'll waste another summer, but on the other hand we could do that whoever stays in charge.
I think overall I'd give him the summer but there's the worry it'll be another waste too.
The only way I'd make a change is if someone wanted the job who was too good to turn down.

There have been positives for me.
The way in which he's handled the pressure. It's easy when things are going well, but he's come through some dark days - probably a new managerial experience for him.
The way the players fight more and give up less.
He has got more from certain individuals too. Jordan Thompson looked like a proper DM on Saturday, and Bae improving too.
Also I was impressed by the way he set up and talked tactically after saturday's performance. He wants to attack and talked about playing through and getting his 8s in the box, and getting the full backs and wingers to switch between going outside and coming inside. Good football to watch.
Also, let's not be too quick to dismiss some of the palyers. Josh Laurent is a prime example. I thought he was excellent on Saturday, and it's no coincidence that he's had a run of games since coming back from injury, getting more fitness and match sharpness - which then leads to confidence. The same could be said of Hoever, and I think Wilmot will improve for the same reason. The same could happen for Niall ennis after a pre season, injury free and as he gets to know the team.
Looking forward to a strong finish and next season.

We might have been 10 clear when AN was correctly handed his p45, however we were on a downwards slide. A couple of good results to end the season and we could again be 10 clear but on a definite upward trajectory. Also that home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday was a very low point for the season. The players had completely lost the plot. He's had help has Schumacher and he's made mistakes but he's looking like he's come through it. The hope is he's gained some invaluable experience and with a bit of time over the summer can make a few exits and additions and we can begin playing more of his attacking front foot football. No major overhaul required. Just some key additions and cut some of the chaff. Assuming it doesn't go horrifically wrong this last 2 games I think better times are round the corner...

No the 10 clear was when SS had been here for 5 games and had a really good unbeaten start. Fact is both AN and SS haven't been good enough. The difference being I think SS IS showing some positive signs and feel like he can improve. A full judgement can come when he's brought in his own players.
