Overall I've not been that impressed with him. Not at all sure if he is capable to transform us and get us competing at the top half of the table, nevermind playoffs or automatic. On balance I'd have to say he's not the right manager for us. I really hope I'm wrong and that he can change our fortunes this summer, but I remain to be convinced.

I'm not convinced he's the man to take us forward, but neither am I sure enough that he isn't to justify sacking him.
From the position he started in to the position we're in now, I'd say he's performed Ok, but there's plenty of room for improvement.
He inherited an awful squad, and has taken us down a few tactical avenues of despair, but then some games have been the best football we've played since Alex Neil's all-too-brief purple patch last spring. I really don't want to sack another manager if we can avoid doing so.
I'm just about in the 'give him a pre-season and then see what happens' camp.

There's been plenty false dawns but there's something there to work with I reckon - we've good players but there is a grit lacking.
With Walters involved hopefully there's less signings each window but more the correct DNA.
If we go through the summer window without signing a left back, an ugly bastard in midfield and a centre back who scares the shit out of the opposition and his own players then I think it'll be more of the same next year.

My verdict is that he's great and I'm very happy to have him as our manager and I'm very optimistic that we are going to see a massive improvement next season and we'll all be enjoying our football again.

Started pretty well, for some reason it all went to pot at the end of January then a big improvement since Walters’ arrival in March (Norwich and Swansea aside) Slight concern in recruitment (questionmarks on Cundle and Ennis) Just hoping he can see us through it now. Have high hopes for him Agree with the above - recruitment wise speaking with several Plymouth fans on Saturday i asked if Schuey was behind their signings the last 2 years. They said Dewship was the main person due to contacts for the successful loans signings but Schuey had a small say. Thus i wonder if it will be the same at Stoke others bring in the players and Schuey 'head coaches' them. I would like to see him implement his brand of football which in the last 2 home games has been enjoyable but our position means he has had to play survival football at times. He will have learned from a couple of experimental selection ie Blackburn and Sunderland away.

We're in a state of flux I fear. He's young and inexperienced, and has taken over a situation he's never been in before yet he's clearly made a lot of mistakes.
Within that he's shown, albeit limited viewings, that he can put together a side that can play. A lot have made excuses about the state of the squad but a few games now where the tactics have been spot on have made that to be a bit of a mockery, so where does that leave him, us and the wider debate?
At this stage I'd say there are slightly more red flags than not but equally I said I wouldn't sack him even if we went down and I stand by that.
Apart from the odd black mark with a few throw away comments about the fans he seems a likeable bloke, and certainly a lot more likeable than the majority of the rabble we've appointed post relegation.

If we’d scored that penalty away at Blackburn who knows what would’ve happened.
We didn’t though so pointless.

We don't want another Manger who is learning on the job. He has no record of bossing higher than the Championship, & that is where we are aiming for. Higher than the Championship. I think that we should be looking for someone who will get us promoted, & can stay there with us. In other words, someone with Prem. pedigree. Flash the money, & there will be people who fill this job criteria. Schumacher will only get us so far in the Championship. That's if he's successful. We should be aiming for better than that.

Just to add I'd love to know what his strengths are thought to be.
Tactical genius. Motivator of men. Arch transfer market wheeler dealer. Visionary.
All of the above, none of the above, who knows?
I don't dislike him but I'm kind of struggling with this I must admit.

Hope to god he comes good but when youre recruiting you look for a solid track record on the CV and achievements.... Ive said it til Im blue in the face, but we need someone at the helm who is used to winning stuff, whether that be titles, or cups consistently and can show that. Not the man for me - sorry. Are you serious? We're in no position to attract a coach that's won anything meaningful certainly not more meaningful than league One which Schu has actually won and you think a serial winner is going to want to come here. What planet are you on? We were in the perfect position to attract that kind of coach when Hughes began to falter over a year before we sacked him.

Were we ever going to get the appointment spot on? I’d hoped he would do better, but at least you can see it’s exciting for a change. Has to be given at least next season and review then, but I shall remain optimistic with him and SJW involved.

I’m sure Carlo Ancelotti will jump at the chance. 🙄. Who are the realistic options that have all these titles you think we should get. When push comes to shove you’d be looking at the same rump of managers with a couple of champ promotions and twice as many failures under their belt. We just got rid of one of them. Can’t say I’ve been blown away by Schumacher and the fact the two players to come in that were clearly his players have been largely shite is definitely a concern, BUT, he’s been fairly pragmatic, doesn’t look like he’s too proud to change when it’s not gone right, looks like he wants to get on the front foot rather than just talking about it. Jury clearly still out but he’s got 3 players to build a team around in Burger, Junho and Mannhoef. If he can get the best out of them (and I think he’s done a great job with Junho) he’ll be ok.

It is unfortunate but my inclination would be to say goodbye.
If we keep him, a bad start and my feeling is we will fire him after 10 games repeating the cycle.
We have seen an uptick since Walters arrived. I woukd give him free reign to pick the manager. Schumacher was Martins man, Jon should be given the chance to pick his. Otherwise again it is not really clear who is accountable for what, and should things not work a "free" option to fire Schumacher and blame him.
If Schumacher stays it has to be following JC and Walters both making the statements he is their choice and they go down together. No knee jerk firing after 10 games. They will stand by their man because they are confident he is the right guy and their first choice. As I don't believe this is the case SJW should get the chance to pick his man and its then clear who is accountable for what.

Has he done better than Alex Neil would have done had he stayed impossible to prove but imo yes and (sometimes) better football too Could a different choice have done better (or worse) ? imo judging a manger when they come in to a relegation threatened team mid season is always a bit iffy will look for a clear improvement* by December if there is one then he gets all of next season for me, however it's not up to me * what does that look like? I guess top 10 before the xmas period?

Assuming we stay up he has to be given a chance doesn't he ?
Hopefully the experience of the last 4 months will stand him in good stead .
What's the alternative? Another Coates British manager special ..and bearing in mind our stock is as low as its been for over 20 years that means an Ainsworth or Heckinbottom type you'd think.

He dug himself a hole, but it looks like he's dug himself out of it. As long as he continues digging in the right direction, we'd be daft to get rid.
He's made some very poor errors of judgment, and the excuse-making from some fans comes across as a bit desperate, but hopefully he's one of those unusual managers that learns from his mistakes.

I think it'd have been worth waiting until the end of the season for this as the next two games could change a lot of opinions. Win both and his record looks more promising. Lose both and it's been a disaster and much of this board will be calling for his head.
Draw and win/lose/draw and it will be what it is now, indifference.

I just wished people just wouldn't post stupid questions like this. The vast majority of people questioned have no idea about Schumacher! They have np personal experience of this manager on a day to day basis. They are not privy to this man doing his job. He has inherited players that were not his. There are clear signs of progress on the field of play. If this club is to progress it will definitely need its fans behind the club. Questions like this are unproductive and need binning!

Schuey and SJW to create a functioning third mind and next year will be better I reckon. Possibly much better.

He doesn’t need to be an expert in anything to still be an improvement on most of what’s followed Hughes. A steady pair of hands and someone who can pull the club into some semblance of normalcy would do right now.

I think he has done as well as expected with a shambles of a squad, we have some very good players but until recently it resembled a bunch of individuals rather than a team. He's also had to contend with Ricky Martin, a team that was plummeting towards relegation and playing dour football under Neil and a dysfunctional club that has been shambolic for the last 7 years. I suspect his remit was to keep us up and then push on.
If we do stay up, which seems likely I think he deserves the chance to "push on" with us next season and hopefully extricate us from the bermuda triangle we've been paddling around since we came down.
He's young, ambitious, obviously wants to play an expansive game when he has the tools to do it with and seems to have a bit of grit to go with it.
l like him and it's a long while since I could say that of a Stoke manager.

Someone like Rowett or Neil then? Have Rowett or Neill been higher than the Championship? Remind me! Yes, much higher and regularly, compared to our best of 14th place since relegation. Rowett since he left, although he's the manager who's arguably most responsible for the mess we've been in for a few years.

Keep. Players are improving which shows they are being coached well. He plays attacking football, he's getting a tune out of the players and we are on occasions dominating teams who we probably shouldn't be. The Southampton game could be the one that sways a lot more people if we put in a good performance because let's be honest they should be beating us quite comfortably.
This guy has something about him so I hope he stays
