They love the club And have got more money than God.
Which should be 99% of the job, especially in an era where 99% of people interested in failing Championship clubs are crooks, fantasists and chancers.
Unfortunately having no layer of knowledge between the manager and board, to try and funnel the cash into something meaningful on the pitch, has been replaced by a slab of pure Ricky Martin, which seems to have made things even worse.
Getting that appointment right is the absolute key

I mean its getting to a point where they'll think what actually is the point. From their side they'll think we've chucked millions and millions at it. We've kept season ticket prices on frozen prices forever. We gave them 10 years in the prem. We pay away travel.....you get my drift. Yet the fans are never happy and give us dogs abuse. The fans obviously have a slighly different view of it. If I was in their position I'd definitely be thinking long and hard as to whether it was worth the grief. Wouldn't you? Whatever abuse they're getting now is nowhere near what it was during Peter Coates first stab at being a board member. Despite that he made a second attempt at running the club, with the Bet365 money to back it up, and as you say they've had some good years before the bad. As true born supporters they're going to stick with the club through thick and thin . They were never in it to see a profit from running the club. If they had, they would never had come back in the first place, and now it's a long time past the moment where they would think of "millions and millions chucked at it". They probably have a plan in secret quarters for when John Coates rerires from his position, but it'll probably be another 20 years before he does.

They are our greatest asset and biggest hindrance.
The money and energy they have put into our club is second to nobody - but they also look like they are taking us into tier 3 for the third time under their guidance - almost harder to do than not given the amount of resources we have compared to other clubs at this level.
Conundrum - whether they stay or leave I wish them all the best - but I must admit I am leaning towards wishing they would leave - I can't see how it gets better while they are here.

One group loved him and one hated him. Its a funny old game.

We desperately need to keep the Coates family ready for the rule change.
They'll pump that much cash in then even John Boy can't fuck it up.
If that doesn't work at that point then maybe it's time for change.

Has anyone mentioned TP yet? Appreciate heās probably too busy sorting the Middle East out (knows how to respond in a crisis), heās probably also being lined up to sort out world poverty (knows how to operate on a budget), but will someone please mention TP, itās like he never existed ffs As usual every thread related to a negative subject is littered with TP comments. I mean who wouldnāt want a manager whoās last Championship job involved winning 1 in 10 before getting the sack.

I do not think that they will sell up.
Peter and John are Stoke City supporters first and foremost. They want what is best for the club - it is not a lack of investment which has led to our demise.
The other issue is ... well ... who the hell would want to buy Stoke City?

Phil Rawlins would be interested you'd think? Is he still rich? Probably not but would have a lot of contacts in America for a 'chain gang' consortium. He created Orlando City from scratch and sold them on to a Brazilian benefactor. I don't think the Coates family will sell up though, so think this convo is a bit moot.

It won't happen while Pete's alive and probably not after. It's a prestige thing, look at us we own a football club. JC will be there as long as he wants to be. Denise would sell it tomorrow. John Coates needs to learn not direct

Hey sis, get the cheque book out I appreciate that you may be talking tongue in cheek but not sure where the idea has come from that Denise holds the purse strings to Stoke City and is the power behind the throne. I know as little as most people about the inner workings of the Coates' family but it seems to me that, yes, she could withdraw Bet365 name and sponsorship but JC and Uncle Peter own a significant portion of Bet365 themselves so could quite easily fund SCFC if Denise decides that she doesn't want Bet365 involved any more. Clearly, if Bet365 withdraw their support that would have a significant impact but John and Peter are probably worth about 4Bn combined. Interest on that alone would be plenty to fund Stoke for ever but would clearly cut into John and Peter's wealth. I think the Coates' family involvement in SCFC will end when John and Peter decide to sell. Denise may have an opinion but it will be John and Peter's decision. Similar, I imagine, to how Bet365 is run but in reverse.
