Another article I read said his contract was only for another 12 months so we were in a risky situation. As he only signed his first contract on his 17th birthday this season I can't imagine we only gave him 18 months? It was a 3 year contract according to Stoke website dated 23 July 23, whether that was from July 23 or his 17th birthday Feb 24. Link below. www.stokecityfc.com/news/2023/july/26/sol-sidibe-agrees-first-professional-contract/

I think that he has the look of Nzonzi, about him. Silky smooth & very assured. He just takes the game in his stride. It's not surprising that he's being noticed.

If he went to Chelsea he would probably spend the next 6 seasons out on loan.

As Sol's contract was signed in July 23 for 3 years, it will expire in July '26. Press reports incorrect to say it ends next year.
Hopefully he'll be integrated into the first team next season, with time to develop & show his worth. The whole Stoke set up now feels far more unified, a good manager in place, Ryan as U21s coach & John Walters Sporting Director .. they're on a mission. Certain they wouldn't allow Sol to consider anything else or to get lured by the Chelsea money shifters.

My understanding is Sols 3 year contract became active on his 17th Birthday 10th Feb 2024 . All he has to do is speak to Lewis Baker who signed for Chelsea in 2014 how may starts for Chelsea ZERO EIGHT loans before he signed for Stoke.
IMHO most Top (laughs loudly) Premier league clubs only want players who can slot straight in. The days of Chelsea buying everybody in sight are now long gone ( and loaning them all out) and may now have to sell Gallagher ( home grown) to meet FFP.

If his contract started in Feb, in theory, he could run out of contract in Feb 2027…which I guess would be unusual with contracts normally ending post season? “The midfielder, whose three-year contract will see him turn professional at the age of 17, expressed his ambition to progress towards first team football.” www.stokecityfc.com/news/2023/july/26/sol-sidibe-agrees-first-professional-contract/

What do you reckon the fee we’d jump at to let him go 500k?
You try get someone out of Brentford when they were in the championship and they said 30m to every club linked with one of their players

Pretty sure that a player can't sign a contract until they are seventeen. Sol's seemed to be unusual as it was agreed before he was 17. It could have been interesting if by Feb he had been holding down a place in the team. Would we have improved. The terms or would he just have had to put up with what he'd signed. A big thing was made of Tezgel and Lowe signing on their seventeenth birthdays within a couple of days of each other.

Asking Baker probably isn’t a good idea; he kept signing contracts after all. He got paid more than he would by a Championship team and he got to go and live in three different countries in his 20s. What a horrible career he’s had 😂

Am I right in thinking he qualifies for the U-17s still? If so, he's that highly rated he's playing for the year above.

Highly likely (if they have a game) that Simkin will be in the u19 squad too. So that’d be nice to have 3 in 3 seperate squads.

Possibly, but I'd suggest England would prefer to take the best squad they could for the Euro U17s as opposed to this Tri-Nations tournament the U18s are in. Sol looks a great prospect but I wouldn't read too much into him being at an age group above in this particular instance.

If Burger does leave (I don’t think he will), could we just stick with developing Sidibe instead?
Why look for a future star midfielder when we have one right here?

Gradual introduction into the first team this season is the way. If we throw him in at the deep end and he ends up being wank and everyone’s on his case it will ruin his confidence and set him back a couple of years. I’m as eager as anyone to see him become a starter but it’s all about correctly managing his development at this stage.

This name may not mean anything to you, but this 17-year-old midfielder will perhaps be a player who will count in the European football landscape in the years to come. Although he is not an adult, his talent is already praised by observers.
"Chelsea, Juventus, Rangers, Brighton are interested as are AS Monaco in France. But if one of its clubs wants to win the bet, it will have to take into account Stoke City which does not intend to give up its jewel so easily, especially with a contract which runs until June 2026."Realistically how much could we push for? Jude Bellingham to Dortmund at 17 was 25 Million! but was a first team regular for a season with Brum. So not to those heady heights You'd like to think we could push for a good few million, if a bidding war was started

Gradual introduction to the first team this season is the way to go. If it all goes well we could be sitting on a goldmine.
