Yep, been so many examples of young prodigies being overplayed in their teens / early twenties and as a result their career at the top level is done by the time they're 30. Rooney, Owen, Fernando Torres, Robbie Fowler. Even the likes of Micah Richards and Aaron Lennon were the next big thing at 20 only to have run out of steam by their late 20's. Even with us there's a strong argument that Shawcross would've had an extra few years at the top level and avoided all those back injuries if TP hadn't forces him to take painkillers to play through injury in his early career. V thought provoking post, (Slightly off topic of the thread, buuuuut:) Do you reckon that's what happened to Raheem Sterling? He looked unplayable for so long and then suddenly like a League two bench warmer. RE: Sol - Think he does need careful management, balanced against the need to accelerate his development. Look at those players you've listed, they were flames burning twice as bright, just for half as long as your Steven Fletcher's etc. Steven Fletcher 😂 He’s been crocked since before he was conceived, he’s just happy to play at a low level.

I’m convinced he’s better further up the pitch.
People seemed convinced he’s deep lying because that’s where Schumacher used him and he can do that for sure. But it’s a waste of what he can do imo.

Where do England play him? I think he can any midfield role you want him to. The only thing I'm not sure about is his finishing and that's only because I haven't seen him have chances to score yet,if he can score as well there's no stopping him

I think he can potentially do it all, but might need someone to settle on a position for him for a while so he can master something and become a regular in a role for us. At one point he made up about 10 yards on their striker who was breaking and moved him off the ball, and then he also played about 3 or 4 fantastic passes both from deep and further up the pitch.

I’m not saying he can’t do that. He absolutely can but his through balls, dribbling and one-twos are just so much better used up the pitch.

Sol's the most ready of all our youngsters.
Usually I like to see them out on loan for a season or two to toughen them up, but I don't think he needs it. Not saying he'll start every week for us, or that he should, but if he can hold his own in the Championship at 17 or 18, he's going to be a serious player by the time he's 23.

Thought he was motm tonight. Played one terrible ball which.led to a booking, Burger maybe but was so much better than Saturday. His pen was cooler than Samuel L Jackson and Steve McQueen in a fridge

It’ll be interesting to see what the new bloke thinks. I personally don’t think the 4-3-3 we seemed to be playing really worked for enough of our players. Sidibe won’t be ignored after tonight, that’s for certain.

He's had two standout games against a second string Boro and a League 2 outfit, yet was completely ineffectual last weekend in a full on Championship game last weekend. Sol is ahead of his development curve but let's hold our horses, he has a long way to go still.

Agree with this. I think he will steadily grow into a deep-lying midfielder, but where he’s at now it’ll be better for his development to play more box-to-box. He carries the ball really well, looks good with the short, quick passes. As he gets more experienced and fills out physically, he’ll become much more rounded and will drop deeper where he can dictate things a bit more. He can play it at U21 level since they’re all at a similar stage physically and tactically, so the deficiencies (sounds harsher than intended) he has aren’t as obvious. Probably at fault for the goal, or at least one of a couple who made mistakes, but he’ll learn and seemed a bit odd to have him man-for-man with their main target.

He seemed to go up a gear as the game went on. He did some runs like Laurent managed twice a season and looked much sharper and more aggressive in the second half. I know Fleetwood are well below us but he is definitely a hot prospect given his trajectory so far. And the nonchalant pen, like Tezgel's was one to shame the older players who fluffed theirs. EDIT: Here's a photo of his kid brother Bilal www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-city-wolves-pro-pathway-5591832

Brilliant performance last night and all this after a poor game at Oxford. Fair play to Shawcross it would have been easy to drop him but he showed faith and was rewarded with a MOM performance. It just showed how youngsters can be inconsistent but you have to take the rough with the smooth for their development. To me he looks to be our biggest prospect and is set for a very bright future in the game.

Man of the match by a mile for me. A couple of sloppy passes aside (which will happen) he was absolutely quality. Covered ground fast, some beautiful tackles that he not only got the ball but was up and using it in the same movement, a cheeky Sir Stan shimmy to go past a player in the second half, and one of the best first time passes we'll see all season when he hit an almost no look one down the right hand channel to Koumas in the second half.
He's already a hell of a player and will only get better. England awaits one day for him.
