He certainly isn't a right back!  Depends on what you want the RB to do. As a TP style defensive full back playing behind a winger, he's probably better than Junior. As a modern attacking fullback, he'll be total shite. I also think he'll get a run at RB under Pelach. As Wilmot seems to have lost a lot of pace I think he will struggle a lot in one on one situations.  |

I’m not a huge fan of Wilmot but I’m not sure the title of the thread is helpful. I’m sure some of our players and their relatives read the Oatie. Reading that your shit does no one any favours. Confidence is low already without it getting really personal. Absolutely, this forum is a cesspit whenever we lose a game.
Wilmot has made a few mistakes, but he doesn't deserve the abuse he gets, same goes for Gooch and many others. He's played over 100 games for Stoke City in some of the toughest seasons I can remember, he's still young at 24 and the day he does move on I suspect it will be to another championship club and he'll probably do well wherever he goes next. Just for context, I remember the abuse Liam Lindsay used to get on here, he only managed 20 games for us and he was written off long before that - yet he's gone on to be a regular for Preston and is highly regarded by them.

Yes, I think it does feel a bit too personal in this instance. He's obviously told to try and play the ball and sometimes he does completely rush and do something stupid that's never even been a pass and ruins his overall performance. His main problem is, he makes one mistake and his head falls off. He's a centre back who plays probably a bit to riskily, but I've got to say, compared to Gibson he's miles ahead. Can't get my head around Gibson at all - in order for your captain to have the respect of team mates, he needs to lead by example and be 7/10 every week. Instead, he's been about 3/10 overall so far and he's dishing out bollockings like he's Maldini. |

Wilmot is a 100% trier and doesn't deserve to be singled out for blame for what was an abject second half display all round.
There was a decent case for him being our best player in the first half, some great tackles and interceptions and a super goal.
