The WBA player made no attempt to head the ball; if he had it would have been an upper body collision, His early jump was not directed towards the ball but was probably to disguise his objective. The fact that the ball was heading towards the Stoke penalty area and his movement was in the opposite direction (to the curve of the D) also demonstrates there was no accident. I agree it was a reckless and very dangerous action It warranted a red card, officials had several opportunities before this to enforce the rules of the game They didn’t and the reckless play became more serious By accident I mean in my opinion he did not mean to injure him. / cause such a serious injury- only Asante can answer that. West Brom should issue a genuine formal apology The EFL and refereeing organisation, need to consistently apply the rules of the game . The welfare of every player is paramount and if the sanctions need reviewing then much more severe sanctions should be there If it was "dangerous" or "reckless", it really doesn't matter if Asante meant to injure. The fact is he put Wilmot in a position of danger.

Fantastic to see take care young man somehow very uplifting to see him looking so good , even if it’s long road back , ( not the most glamorous hospital setting ) but as long as they look after him and the news is good that’s all that matters

So pleased that you have posted that photo. I thought I was going mad because at the time I was convinced he pulled him by the neck not the collar. This seems to check me out of the funny farm (can I still say that?) 😂.

My understanding is that as the Referee DID NOT issue a caution the authorities can take a retrospective decison the incident.
As mentioned before if this was the PL the media would be going berserk.
Can you imagine if this had happened to Kane or any of the other media darlings?
Come on FA, come on SCFC demand action. It won’t do us or Ben any good but it will stop that cheating lowlife of a player and his team from continuing similar tactics, and shut up all their low life WBA media supporter warriors .

If he gets away with it he's through on goal. You can play in a reckless or dangerous manner without actually setting out to injure someone, just like a reckless driver doesn't go out intending to mow a pedestrian down.

He literally no other reason to do what he did You don't need the player to tell you this it's right there If he didn't intend to hurt him then he needs educating on what happens when you knock someone off balance when they are in the air and the seriousness of the injuries which could result from such reckless behaviour. Footballers should have a duty of care for other footballers. Wasn't Roy Keane once punished for admitting he'd intended hurting Alf Inge Haaland when he stamped on him? Surely the EFL should be asking Asante to explain what his intentions were when he pulled Wilmot from around the neck and then give him a punishment commensurate with the seriousness of the offence. This is an exceptional case. I don't think many players would do that to a fellow professional and I've never seen it happen before.

And nor should the referees total disregard for player safety or West Brom’s cavalier attitude to the seriousness of an injury deliberately caused by one of their players be excused or forgotten either. But it will. It already has outside st4... I don't think it was ever acknowledged outside Stoke. The only national reporting I've seen just says Wilmot was carried off on a stretcher with oxygen after a coming together with Asante. Obviously no national journalist has bothered to look at a clip of what happened.

Nah.
He knows the potential consequences of attempting to gain that advantage.
Ultimately, his actions could very seriously fuck the bloke up and he simply didn't care ...

If WBA don't get promoted, the game against them next season will be tasty. I think Astante may get the same abuse as SWP did all those years ago. The brit as it was then at its best

Well I agree with all that so it’s probably just semantics about what “trying to hurt him” means - I was responding to the idea that there would be “no other reason” to do what he did. It should have been a red but I also agree with bayern that no ref gives it. It’s probably something that needs looking at. It actually reminded me of Arnie against Arsenal a few years ago - he nudged one of their players off balance and he ended up in the hoardings and badly injured. It looked innocuous but their fans were - rightly, in this instance - absolutely livid about it in exactly the same way we are now.

As a club it’s best to keep out of it. Officially. Plenty they could do out of the public eye. Just look what classless twats West Brom have made themselves look by going public with that brainless tweet on their official Twitter feed

Either in social media or from the stands. They all deserve the shitstorm that will eventually come their way. I just think the club ‘officially’ should stay out of it. Makes us look as classless as the Bags o’Shite. Which we’re not.

He gave a foul so he obviously saw the incident and deemed it worthy of a foul and nothing more.

He can't have seen what happened, because if he saw it, he would have seen it was blatant dangerous play and a blatant red card. He may have given a free kick, because the linesman flagged for a foul. But he didn't see what happened. If he had seen what happened, he would have red carded him ( any ref would)

If he had seen what happened, he would have red carded him ( any ref would) He clearly did see the incident or his assistant did which is the same thing as far as the authorities are concerned and made a wrong call, an appallingly wrong call but one which gives no opportunity for retrospective action. How outraged we are, and rightly so in my opinion, makes absolutely no difference.
