I know that WBA have had words with the person responsible for the tweet. But still not taken down?

It could have been much, much worse, there’s always potential for life changing injuries with things like this. I can understand full bloodied tackes in the heat of the moment but this pull was intentional and though he almost certainly didn’t go out to injure Wilmot he must of been aware of the potential consequences as a footballer.

I and many others had a perfect and clear view of the incident. I am also pretty sure the Referee did also.
The WBrom fans at the other end would not and could not see it as clearly.
It really was bad and totally uncalled for. Which makes the social media remarks vert distasteful.

Vitriol next season for the first game against West Brom will be levels rarely appreciated
Sadly the seeds have been sown by one of the worse referees in the EFL.

I know that WBA have had words with the person responsible for the tweet. Until the tweet goes & West Brom at least have some sort of guts to apologise for the classless remark in the first place then it's just a hollow response Bunny.

I said that at the game and its being a tad dramatic but it absolutely could have done. It's not being dramatic at all. It was a ludicrous act to drag someone to the floor in mid air. Had he flipped just a tiny bit more, which is easily done at high speed, he could have easily landed on his neck. The lad who did it needs banning. West Brom fan I work with hasn't seen it but says it sounds like something similar he did vs Chesterfield in the cup, which he got retrospective action from. EDIT: Just looked this up and it was an elbow off the ball so nothing alike really haha

As has been said by others, a back injury could potentially end his career (could’ve been worse as well) so could be a long road back for him.
Wishing Ben a speedy recovery and hoping he can continue to progress with us.

Desperately disappointing for him, can only imagine how excruciating the pain must be too. Still a bit surprised they opted to stand him up for a bit given there was clear neck/back involvement and at the time it took for the stretcher to come on (not sure if Woolmer had anything to do with it) which Tye was getting incredibly agitated at. Can't fuck around with an injury like this, hope we give him maximal time to heal and get fully fit before we even consider bringing him back, we've seen with Ryan over the years what coming back half baked can result in. Get well soon Ben Nothing personal, but I'd trust the 2 doctors and 4 paramedics he had with him rather than your goodself. Like I say, nothing personal. Nothing taken personally, just speaking from previous experience of working with neurosurgeons and people with spinal injuries in the past. But it was the 2 physios that attempted to stand him up before the paramedics came out, as soon as they came out he wasn't moved unless fully supported and not holding his own weight at all. Not saying anything was untoward as he has a history of back spasms as Neil alluded to.

Let’s hope the lad makes a full recovery and comes back stronger than ever.
I also feel that the injury to the West Brom player could well have been caused by the long break in play while Ben was being looked after by the medical staff. The other players did not have the opportunity to warm up again before the game restarted.

Its there but they’ve just replied with this Both accidents - I can’t believe that there was the intention to cause such a distressing outcome although reckless play imo Most of the time , fortunately, these sort of incidents result in not very serious injuries for most players Evertons Seamus Coleman more recently Gomez, both suffered nasty injuries I’m not sure there was such very unprofessional response from players or the clubs involved- apologies were offered immediately I would hope that West Brom put that right now the severity of the injury has been confirmed As for the fans from both clubs, a small section will forever bear a grudge for this situation Stoke v Arsenal games even now Shawcross / Ramsay incident often gets a mention ( Ramsay retuned to international football) Best wishes Ben for a full recovery
It absolutely wasn't an accident at all.
He deliberately pulled Wilmot's collar from behind whilst he was in mid air.
The potential harm to the player generated by this deliberate act was far greater than if he had casually strolled up to Ben and punched him full in the face, something he would probably have got a eight match ban for.
It was absolutely scandalous behaviour from Asante and it should not be excused in any way.

And nor should the referees total disregard for player safety or West Brom’s cavalier attitude to the seriousness of an injury deliberately caused by one of their players be excused or forgotten either. But it will.

Could someone from the Sentinel or Radio Stoke go to Corboron's next press conference and ask him if, in the light of Wilmot's injury, he has told his players to stop intentionally pulling and nudging players who are off the ground as the pull on Wilmot was the third occasion it had happened in the match so it looks like it may be a WBA tactic. If it isn't will he give his players some education on the dangers of causing a player to fall on his back?

It already has outside st4... Sadly. I’ve been called some salty things on Twitter from Albion munters who have been eyeing up our club Twitter feed today. Some very misogynistic fellows on there. Sums up a section of their fans who still think it’s hilarious that one of ours is injured. Apparently I’m an absolute weapon! 🙄🙄🙄

Josh Laurent was on Radio Stoke this morning, saying that he warned the referee that he needed to get a grip of the game. He said that he told him that bad tackles were going in, & that it was only time before someone was badly hurt.

The WBA player made no attempt to head the ball; if he had it would have been an upper body collision, His early jump was not directed towards the ball but was probably to disguise his objective. The fact that the ball was heading towards the Stoke penalty area and his movement was in the opposite direction (to the curve of the D) also demonstrates there was no accident.

I think it's beyond poor, dangerous play is a red isn't it? Hasn't remotely attempted to play the ball and has literally broken a player's back for fucks sake.
I strongly feel it should be a red for any foul where there is evidently no attempt to win the ball. Same would go then for tactical fouls and even non-dangerous challenges like tugging the shirt of someone who has gotten past you.
It's football, you should always atleast plausibly be playing the ball/contesting for it etc.
This is a different kettle of fish because it's also dangerous, but you end up with a culture of shit like this where you have teams like City who win leagues on the back of tactically fouling any fucker who tries to counter.

I still can’t believe he didn’t even book him. Everyone by us in Block 28 saw it clearly (we’re not even that low down!) and was going mad when it happened. Even if the ref HAD missed it, surely the reaction of the crowd and the fact that Wilmot got stretchered off would have given him a fucking clue! The linesman also clearly flagged for the foul so he obviously saw it as well. Beggars belief that they couldn’t come to the correct decision between them. The linesman wasn’t far off being as bad as the ref to be honest, fucking shocking.

I've never been in the Boothen End when it's been like that. The vitriol and anger directed towards the pitch was astonishing.

What are 4 duties and responsibilities of a referee in a game? Responsibilities during the Game He is in Charge Of the Rules. ... Maintaining the Safety of Players, Fans and Team Officials. ... The Game Time keeper. ... He Enforces Fair Play. ... He Inspects the Playing Area. ... Weather and Surrounding Environment. ... Division of Responsibility and Cooperation. ... He Assumes the Right Positioning During the Game.
Failed miserably then and should be sacked immediately

There is something very wrong if a referee cannot understand just how dangerous that challenge is.
Surely that would be a straight red in rugby.
Really saddened to hear of the extent of the injury but not surprised.

I agree it was a reckless and very dangerous action It warranted a red card, officials had several opportunities before this to enforce the rules of the game They didn’t and the reckless play became more serious By accident I mean in my opinion he did not mean to injure him. / cause such a serious injury- only Asante can answer that. West Brom should issue a genuine formal apology The EFL and refereeing organisation, need to consistently apply the rules of the game . The welfare of every player is paramount and if the sanctions need reviewing then much more severe sanctions should be there
