Has the guy issued an apology to Wilmot? It’d be a start. And get well soon Ben I thought that myself, I suppose he could have done it privately but I very much doubt it mate. Just hope Ben recovers well and as for that West brom fucker he should get a retrospective ban which I'm sure he could as the ref didn't book him for it astonishingly.

I feel the ref should have taken his time, realised the severity of injury caused and sent the player off. I’m not usually keen on this approach but in this instance I think it would have been the right course of action because there was zero attempt to play the ball

www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/brandon-thomas-asante-reveals-ben-26728925"First of all, we're all humans," Thomas-Asante began. "I can understand where they're coming from. I don't think Stoke fans are all horrible people, I think there are great people there. I have spoken to Ben, I messaged him the next day and said 'I'm sure you don't want to hear from me, I just wanted to check in'. "It's not something which happens intentionally. You can't bank on someone jumping just as you're pulling him. There are 1,000 pulls a game, it's a contact sport. With that said, I'm very sorry it happened. As I've said I've spoken to him. He says he's looking to recover quite quickly and be back in training in the next few weeks, so that was encouraging to hear from him. "Credit to him as well, can I just say, because he could've taken it a different way but he was really positive. I look forward to seeing him again in the future and in better circumstances."

Fair dos We all need to move on from it now just as Ben Wilmot appears to be doing

Fair play to the lad and to Ben for handling it with a bit of class. Time to move on.

Well done to both. A fine example of how to deal with a bad injury on a football pitch. 👍

While I agree that both are doing what's right her and now, I still think we should discuss the role of the "1,000 pulls a game" Asante is talking about. It is per definition not allowed, but largely goes unpunished in all parts of the game (except when a big 6 team needs a goal and a defender does the pulling). Shirt pulling i all but allowed as well.
This leads to dangerous play and someone pays the price once in a while, like Ben (and us) will here. I would think the players' association should chime in here - in every other union I've been in the focus has been safety before salary. It shouldn't be different here, but maybe they don't care?

Even though it may be unpopular I am Not sure about this apology. This wasn’t just a pull it was a strong tug whilst Wimot was at the peak height of his jump. It sounds to me like someone who knows he’s been caught out, and is well aware peoples reaction to this despicable behaviour, and is trying to vindicate himself.

He has had a really good season for us and a lot has been asked of him.
Covering for jags lack of pace , flints lack of pace ,Connor Taylor's lack of pace . Ironically he has looked a lot happier with Fox along side him, which tells you that all you need to know about jags , flint and Taylor.
I think we need to sign a proper championship centre half next season, like Jake cooper at Millwall ( out of contract I think?)
Something like sterling wilmot cooper fox , would see wilmot shine I reckon.
He's done really well.
He deserves to have a proper championship centre half like Jake cooper or similar alongside him .
Hopefully AN and Ricky Martin can get that player in and if they do , I am sure Wilmot will shine again.

I went to a rock concert the other day with my mate Tony and our two wife's ( both brunettes ) People start dancing away and Me and the two wife's end up dancing away in the aisle for about half an hour. We return to our seats and no Tony .We look for him admist the dark and flashing lights and finally his wife notices him sat with two blonde babes drinking the tins of pink gin and tonic his wife had smuggled in . Tony's excuse to his own wife and mine ..." I thought they were you !" Hmmm ? Asante's excuse is on a similar level to Tony's But Ben still has the right idea ...time to move on.

From Today’s other games thread on WBA V Sunderland: Clouting people in the air again. This team is utter scum. How many times did WBA do this today? On MOTD last night it showed Martinelli of Arsenal deliberately back in to a Saint’s player who was in mid air while jumping for a ball by the touchline. Incredibly cynical and cowardly. The Saints player went off with concussion but could easily have broken his neck. Ref blew for a foul to a chorus of protests from Arsenal fans right next to the incident. Unbelievable! No booking from the ref. Far worse than many things players get booked for. 21 mins in: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/b007t9y1/match-of-the-day

What martenelli did and what Asante did to wilmot,is taken very seriously in rugby and needs to be similarly addressed in football. There is no need to change the rules of the game because both instances are blatant dangerous play and a straight red card with the present rules But Refs need to not shy away from making a big decision at arsenal, man city or even Stoke. Otherwise a player is going to end up breaking their neck , and in a wheelchair for life .

Mid air tackles should be treated with a red card, they know what they’re doing and it’s only a matter of time before a player is seriously injured as a result (wilmots injury should serve as notice to officials) When a player is mid air and another player on the ground cynically pulls him back is as bad as a two footer on the knee in my opinion
