Now this is more like it. The links to Kalas and Flint were a bit of a worry to me in all honesty, but this is the kind of signing we need to make this summer, exactly what we need.

I remember hearing his name in commentary and thinking he was Japanese. Although that may have been Nigel Johnson getting his name wrong

Good player. Much needed in our midfield. Would be a very, very good signing.

The second Zimbabwean player to play for Stoke?

Looks like he had 2 bad injuries last season. An ankle injury that ruled him out from Aug-Jan, then a knee injury in March where he "ripped the muscle away from the bone" and ended his season thetilehurstend.sbnation.com/2022/4/1/22992396/reading-fc-good-position-cope-with-losing-andy-rinomhota-and-yakou-meite-royalsYou know what you get with Rinomhota (a Duracell-bunny-like ball-winner who takes the game by the scruff of the neck in the midfield) and Meite (a proven goalscorer). Unlike more mercurial talents who blow hot and cold, Rino and Yaks can be relied upon consistently. I’d been particularly impressed with Rinomhota in recent months. Having quickly got up to speed after long-term injury, he was the only player to come out of a nightmarish January with any credit, and went on to prove his importance with a series of committed performances. The better Rinomhota got, the better Reading got. And, true to form, when he had to be shunted to right back at Blackpool, the drop-off in Reading’s midfield performance was immediately evident. After all, there’s no like-for-like replacement in the squad for Rinomhota’s skill set: a barrel-load of energy, strength and tenacity. The closest Reading can call on is Josh Laurent, but although he’s got a great engine and physical presence, he’s not got that level of sheer intensity we see in Rino’s game.

He sounds exactly the type we need to replace Joe Allen, almost like a Joe Allen in an actual man's body.
Worrying about the injuries but hopefully he can put them behind him if he were to sign.

I don't think Clucas will be a factor next season, and it's probably the hope to move him on.
But Allen wouldn't be signing up for 12 more months if he saw big chunks of time on the bench in World Cup year (and neither would Rinomhota if he had other options as it seems he does)
So interesting to think how any other midfielder would fit into the pecking order, if it seems we're after AN Other non-Allen option......especially with Thompson here and expecting regular minutes.
Baker Allen Rinomhota (or another of that type) Thompson
..would probably be competing for 2 slots every week.

He looks to be a decent player but, as a CENTRAL midfielder (i.e. competition for Baker) he looks like he would not be the specialist DEFENSIVE midfielder we really need. I'd rather we cast the net wider to sign a specialist defensive midfielder.

Suppose it'd also raise questions about Sawyers coming too, although they're very different players - and hopefully he'd only be a competitor for the Powell/Vrancic spot. Maybe would be dependent on Vrancic being shifted? Wonder if Rinomhota (or Rinomhota-type) is the "tinker" that the Sentinel referenced www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/stoke-city-transfer-romaine-sawyers-7117945Stoke City are expected to to keep Romaine Sawyers in their transfer thoughts this summer after the midfielder was released by West Bromwich Albion. Sawyers enjoyed his season on loan at Stoke and Stoke coaches believed he fitted in well. The 30-year-old midfielder was missed when he suffered a quad injury in December which ruled him out for the best part of three months. Michael O'Neill is hoping to tinker with the balance of his midfield department over the next few weeks and a move for Sawyers might depend on how that takes shape. Stoke already have attack-minded midfielders on their books in Lewis Baker, Sam Clucas, Nick Powell and Mario Vrancic.

He's said specifically 2-3 times that he doesn't want one though, so someone with these attributes could be about as close as we get

This is a bit more exciting so I fully expect us to not sign him, re-sign Allen and sign Aden Flint now.

Never heard of him. Always a good sign. Nobody on this board knows anything about him. That's just not true is it? People have tv's and some actually (weirdly ) choose to watch the Championship. Some people even have the Internet and you can watch all sorts of weird and mysterious games on there. Why would no one know anything about him? That's just silly!
