I think you’re being incredibly pedantic tbh. I don't think so, he's not the worst signing he's made but trying to play down the amount that was lost on him doesn't make it any better. I think so. All of the reports I read suggested that we received the £2.5million that we paid for him. Maybe you know something different? Maybe you know that we don’t stand to gain additional payments if Forest get promoted, or receive a percentage of any future sale that takes us into surplus on the deal?

How much do we reckon we’re saving if these go? Allen 50k/wk? Smith 15k/wk? Fletcher 10k/wk? Vrancic 10k/wk? Chester 5k/wk? Might be more on Smith? salarysport.com/football/sky-bet-championship/stoke-city/If the above is true then your figures seem pretty accurate. Allen 50k/wk Smith 17k/wk Fletcher 13k/wk? Vrancic 11k/wk? Chester 15k/wk? Also we have got rid of Ince, Bath and Davies at £70k pwk. That's about £9m pa of what was a £17m wage bill. Christ imagine if Chester is on that much. Madness.

So, as it stands:
Jagielka - staying Smith - leaving Fletcher - leaving Chester - leaving Allen - probably leaving Vrancic - unclear Powell - unclear
Obviously 99% of people hope we either have confirmation that we've triggered the extra year with Powell on his current deal, or agree something longer-term (which seems unlikely?)
What's the feeling on Vrancic now?
Expectation that he'll leave maybe? Seems to have become less integral as the season has gone on, and 33 in a fortnight?

Vrancic to go for me, he showed quality at times but not enough to warrant keeping him. We need energy and younger legs in the side.

What an awful signing Smith was. 4M for a player who couldn't take a ball in a tight space and was only comfortable running up and down the wing in a straight line. Suspect defensively too.
Wish the lad well in his career but happy he has left.

Wish the lad well in his career but happy he has left. Christ knows what Nathan was thinking. At the time, we didn't realise what £4m represented at this level - and for a right-back! Bar Powell, all his signings were just so strange, given how we've seen his Luton teams play. Stephen Ward? Sam Vokes? Baffling. Remember when we were linked with James Justin for several months beforehand too.

At this rate I'll have it tattooed all over my arse and end up with it on my headstone. It's all about an inexperienced manager thrown to the wolves without any process and/or people behind him to offer checks and balances, because we didn't have the process or personnel in place like a proper club should and does. Even hard nosed Tone had Rudgey and Francis behind him!

The issue is some not you I hasten to add rejoice in these departures failing to see so often we replace with worse smith just a promyion winner and captain and i suspect what comes next is bodge of replacing him ultimately making us weaker , it won’t surprise me if he does a jines shd comes back with a better team next year

The issue was he wasn't worth 2M and he wasn't capable of the step up needed, despite what the stats said. If he had a Rudge type or a Harford type alongside him just maybe they would have offered an alternative or at least maybe pointed that out? He seems to have done very well at Luton since he returned so you can only wonder the players he might have wanted to sign only to be put in another direction by a wily operator like Harford?

Carto had been in the role for 7-8 years though. He was an old hand at that point. We'll never know the dynamics in the relationship. But we know Hughes really asserted himself towards the end. And they always back the manager.

There's got to be a reason though, as to why he was superb at Luton with recruitment first time round, came to us and had a nightmare, went back to Luton and has done exceptionally well on a tight budget again. We all know this club is poor off the pitch and have for some time. It's just the finer details we don't know, and probably (for the best) we never will.

We all know this club is poor off the pitch and have for some time. It's just the finer details we don't know, and probably (for the best) we never will. Could largely come down to us having a run of managers with a terrible eye for a player, when they're given the final say and a budget they've never seen before, whereas Harford is unusually gifted in that department when identifying players for Jones' system and requirements? Late-era Hughes seemed to go full Tonto, in his Wimmer period. And he had enough clout to force his progressively barmy decisions through. Then Rowett's eyes lit up at the £50m, and he and Kevin Phillips thought £13m was fine for Afobe to lead the line, instead of Gayle, who was Carto's choice, and go on a trolley dash for McClean, Cuco Martina and Ryan Woods? And as a newly-installed manager, he could obviously force things through too? As could Jones. Not sure what you do if a newly-installed manager is adamant he wants his hand-picked targets, despite Carto giving him a list of other kangaroos that could punch and jump 20ft? Then the rest is history if the manager's No.1 choices go horribly wrong again and again?

He was always a decent lower league manager and I think he learned a hell of a lot from the debacle here so he didn't make the same mistakes going back to Luton in the championship. It was totally the wrong appointment at the wrong time for us. All the blame is on JC for that one.

Wonder if Vrancic has got an automatic second year based on appearances this year?
When he signed, it was said to be an "initial" one-year deal, which suggests there could be some automatic number of games triggering another year.
And, if so, you'd think 30 would definitely hit it
If so, hard to accommodate Sawyers too, even if he's released by WBA - with Powell so nailed-on to start and the need for balance?

Yeah, BBC reported it as an initial 1 year deal. 30 appearances would certainly trigger the option so it's definitely a possibility. He's probably got another year left in the tank even if it's just from the bench. Sawyers will be offered another contract at West Brom won't he.
