breakingthelines.com/player-analysis/keane-lewis-potter-the-young-hull-city-attacker-tipped-for-premier-league-greatness/A propos of absolutely nothing, as this season is dead, and an England 2nd team game v Cote d'Ivoire doesn't exactly float my boat, I was thinking about football kiddies who had impressed me recently who we could possibly afford and who might see Stoke as a step up. Numero uno: Keane Lewis-Potter - great name, huge promise and surely he'd jump at the chance to leave Hull. See article linked above. Numero dos: Lee Buchanan - Derby are stuffed, he is a promising left sided defender. We need one of those. Any more?

Expectations:
Ronnie Edwards - CB - Peterborough. Likely to be relegated but doubtful cheap. Exactly the type of player we should be looking at though.
Dan Neil - CM - Sunderland. Depends if they go up. Worth a punt if not but again doubtful would be cheap but what we should be looking at.
Reality
Joe Allen on a 1 year deal.
James Chester on a 1 year deal

Numero Tres (loan) - Kaine Kesler Hayden: young wing back who has had lower league loans from Villa, and could be ready for a step up. After JPB, another we could have on loan from their impressive production line.
Numero Quattro - Dan Neil: already a regular at Sunderland at 20, he could be the perfect foil for Lewis Baker in an Allen-less midfield.

I honestly think we don't need lots of signings We need to get more, far more, out of the players we have True, but even then, allowing for that and a few youngsters coming through, I reckon that there are, realistically, five spots in this squad up for grabs if we are to mount any kind of play-off push (we can forget automatic). Bursik Bonham Blondy Wilmot Forrester Taylor Souttar Tymon Baker Thompson Doughty Campbell Powell DWP Brown That's only 15 (3 are keepers too!), and someone will come on and point out that even some of them are not signed up for next season yet.

Numero Cinco - Charlie Cresswell (loan): Leeds' young CB is attracting interest and may benefit from a loan in the Championship. That dad Richard played for us can only help. That his dad is Richard makes me feel very old.

I actually think a no.3 should be an old head, like Fielding now. Simkin is a prospect, but needs loans like Bursik had. I think Edwards is too far down the NY road now to come back.

Surely it will all depend on how many leave.
At baseline (assuming none leave), we need a goalkeeper who we don’t talk about every week, a defensive midfielder and a target man.
Don’t we have something like 10-15 players out of contract? We are going to need more than just those three.

I honestly think we don't need lots of signings We need to get more, far more, out of the players we have We need a good 5-6 in don't we, to have even a mid-table team? Goalkeepers: Bursik, Bonham, NEW RBs: NEW, Duhaney CBs: Souttar, Wilmot, Forrester, NEW LBs: Tymon, Fox CMs: Baker, Clucas, Thompson(?), NEW CAMs: Powell(?), NEW Wide players: DWP, Campbell, Doughty, Brown Strikers: NEW, (plus Campbell/Brown)

I honestly think we don't need lots of signings We need to get more, far more, out of the players we have I agree, we have dozens of players, half as many good ones should be our destination. When MON came in he said he couldn't keep everyone happy and a slimmed down squad was the aim, yet it seems he can't stop signing players! Make it a rule, 2 out before we can bring 1 in. And sweat the playing assets we do have, much harder.
