He’s not a striker. He can’t hold it up and he can’t link play. His best work is finishing from an inside right channel. Campbell should be the first choice on the right though. For someone who can't hold it up or link play it's amazing how often he does both He doesn’t though. His touch is still abysmal and he’s weak as piss.

If MON thinks Chester and Clucas are answers then he certainly should be replaced! Clucas may be here, because he's still under contract. Personally I'd try to get rid. Allen I'd offer a one year deal on vastly reduced terms. He might get better offers closer to home. The other two it's time to go. I know Clucas has a year left of his contract, but I really hope MON, if he is still here next season, won't think of Clucas as a regular in a starting 11. I really hope we can manage to offload Clucas if possible.

He’s good when fit, he just shouldn’t play 3x in a week and is still recovering from injury.

Id like an older pro aswell at cb to help out the younger lads
I was thinking of Swift from Reading, contract is due to end, he can play in Powells position and as a CM

He and Baker are building a really good partnership.

GK Bursik, New GK, Bonham LB/LWB Tymon, New LB RB/RWB New RBx2, (or extend Smith on reduced contract - he's played well this season) CB Souttar, Wilmot, Moore (looks decent, wants to be here), New CB, Forrester CM Baker, Thompson, New CMx3 (if Allen is prepared to take a reduced contract x2) AM Vrancic, New AM (Powell's injury record isn't good) RIF/ST Doughty?, New LW LIF/ST Brown, Campbell, DWP ST Maja, New ST
In terms of formation I'd like us to be able to switch between 433 and 352 both at the start and within games which colours what type of players we get in. Whether we play 433 or 353 we don't need wingers in the traditional sense - with 433 often as not we play inverted forwards who tuck in and in 352 we play with wing backs and 2 strikers. If we go that way Doughty is going to have to adapt his game to have a place in the squad.
It's going to be a busy summer...

Zero chance of us getting Swift. He's Prem or top six Championship bound.
Hopefully Powell's extra year is sorted. Sawyers as back up to him wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.

Palace would do well to get Swift as part of their plans to replace Gallagher if they can’t sign him. They should probably sign him anyway.

O’Neill’s signings bar Baker, Mario and Sawyers have been woeful. If he’s stays on, my god I really really hope not, he shouldn’t be trusted in the market, that’s why he needs to go!!!!!!

You don't think Brown on double figures and now an international a good signing? Maybe if he was German and had a 70s handlebar tache you'd take to him . No one has been woeful...apart from your comments perhaps

I actually haven't for his last two at home but for two different reasons The one where he moved it on to his foot and fired it in (not sure who it was against) I saw coming and was basically commentating "Put it on your and right and finish" and it hit the net and I put my finger up. His header against Millwall I was watching the fucking replay of the corner before

Unless you really are not normal..... Which for the record I don't believe either.

That was more than enough. And wasn't because it was Brown but just because it felt right.

True, but even then, allowing for that and a few youngsters coming through, I reckon that there are, realistically, five spots in this squad up for grabs if we are to mount any kind of play-off push (we can forget automatic). Bursik Bonham Blondy Wilmot Forrester Taylor Souttar Tymon Baker Thompson Powell Campbell Powell DWP Brown That's only 15 (3 are keepers too!), and someone will come on and point out that even some of them are not signed up for next season yet. 2 of them are Powell 😁 One is now Doughty!

This is what I'd be working to team and squad wise.
Ideal team
Bursik
New right back Souttar New CB New LB
New DM Baker
Campbell Powell New LW
New ST
Ideal squad
GK - Bursik Bonham Simkin
RB - New right back Duhaney (FFS)
LB - New left back Tymon
CB - Souttar New Centre back Wilmot Forrester Taylor
DM - New DM New DM/Renew Thompson but ideally not
CM - Baker Clucas (try to get rid) New CM
AM - Powell Vranic
RW - Campbell Brown
LW - New LW or Doughty DWP
ST - 2 new strikers needed? And then Brown and Campbell too.
I think within that lot above you need an extra CM, ideally a younger player learning and an attacker who is the same.

Yesterday's team really brought the rebuild into focus. With Baker, Powell and Souttar absent yesterday, there was virtually nothing to meaningfully follow as regards to the possible evolution of the team next season. Bit of a holding pattern until the summer. Looks like Smith will be off, and Fox and Clucas look finished here, especially Clucas. Just a question of finding a taker for them. Hopefully if Clucas is on a reduced wage, it should be possible. Fletcher and Allen will be off. Thompson is a good squad player. Vrancic will be an interesting one. It's been a while since he had a good game, although he was good when he came on for the last 20 minutes at Cardiff. 33 next month too. There's been no indication if he has a clause that means he's got an extra year if he plays a certain amount of games. If it's a choice of Sawyers or Vrancic, I'd guess he'd go for Sawyers (if WBA don't take up their option) Has Jagielka got another year in him at this level? Is it worth getting THB back? Are Forrester or Taylor ready? Has he definitively made the switch back to a back 4? If so, would he see Tymon as the first choice at LB and bring in a deputy to him - or look to bring in a Tymon upgrade? Can we get Philogene back? Maja won't be back. Does he see either Campbell or Brown as able to play up front on their own? Campbell doesn't really have the physicality or pressing he seems to like. Both of them can't play on the right. He's always said he's seen Brown as a striker in the past, but does he now mainly see him as a a wide player? Watching Maja ambling around yesterday highlighted what Brown gives you there, even on his bad days. If he thought Maja was the answer, does he know what he's looking for in that lone striker role? The Sunderland fans didn't think he could play on his own, and so it's proven. Young Fletcher-type would be ideal, but they don't grow on trees, especially ones who can score goals too Bursik Bonham (youth keeper or new 3rd choice) NEW Duhaney Tymon NEW Souttar Wilmot (Jagielka Forrester Taylor) Baker Thompson (Clucas) Powell (Vrancic or Sawyers) Brown Campbell NEW Doughty (JPB?) NEW NEW?

NEW NEW? A massive limitation from last year’s thinking was that Fletcher had another year. That’s really cost us. At 39, Jagielka is a risk. I’d personally take it, as he isn’t a player constantly in and out the squad with niggles, but we definitely shouldn’t rely on him. Souttar and Wilmot/Jagielka should be how we set up next season, though I could see it being Souttar and Jagielka/Taylor/Forrester with Wilmot as a right back given MON’s preference for him there. Also, if we can make that more mobile target man slot a priority, I could see Brown/Campbell and DWP/Doughty/Campbell slugging it out for the wide roles behind. Campbell always looks better when he’s had a Fletcher or Powell flicking it on into space or holding it long enough for him to make a run behind.
