Because that pub is a haven for drug dealers and unsavouries and has been for the last few years as I’m sure you’re aware living locally?

Seems pretty busy whenever I go past but it’s got a bad rep now which will take some pulling back. It’s a great building and should be a meeting pub for people at the start of a Friday night. In reality it isn’t, real shame. If you want a decent pint you should come to the “opening as soon as approval is granted” pub on Basford bank. Watch this space…..

Saw some late films this weekend. 😴😴😴
Queen documentary - Bohemian Rhapsody
I didn't know the Queen history. Didn't know where F Mercury came from originally. Entertaining movie. Felt sorry for the rest of the band at times, and for the singer as well sometimes as he seemed lost. B May appeared to be a nice guy. It held me awake and even "forced" me to listen to Queen, Queen II and A night at the Opera afterwards on You Tube in the middle of the night.
I only have Sheer Heart Attack and I find it's the only one worth having. For me anyway.
4/5
Air Force One (w H Ford)
Started somewhat boring with all that shooting, it felt like a war movie, a civil war. But it grew along the way. Dramatic movie, but with some unrealistic moments. Like when they were hanging out from the plane, how did he manage to do that for so long with one hand? The scenery looked glued on at times, with the plane crashing into the water in particular. The russian gangsters seemed to be nutcases. Why did they even think the President could leave the plane at all without anyone noticing?
4/5
Cold Pursuit (w L Neeson)
I didn't get why his son was murdered by an injection in the beginning. I realised after an hour that I'd seen this film once before. Liam Neeson played the part as usual. Lots of psychopats, they all were. Put down to rest, one by one.
4/5

Saw The Creator yesterday. Not God almighty but the film. Very disappointed if im honest. I was expecting far more from it. Some are saying its a propaganda film for AI but I don't see that so much. For me its more of the same bullshit storylines that are churned out. Young actor who plays Alfie didn't have a lot to do, but his crying skills were convincing 6/10

Some things I've seen in the cinema lately:
Past Lives (5 stars) - American/Korean film about childhood sweethearts who are separated when the girls family move to Canada. They reunite fleetingly many years later in the Facebook era, only to fade away. Several years later, they do meet again as an adults, only she is married to an American man in New York. Fantastic modern drama, simple story told well and one of the best films I've seen in years.
Killers of the Flower Moon (3 stars) - Scorcese drama about the clandestine massacre of Native Americans in Osace County in the 1920s. I don't have a problem with long films, I don't have a problem with narratives that are slow. I quite like them in fact. There's just no sort of dramatic turns in this whatsoever though and found it hard to be invested in the character, probably because it was told from the perspective of the Leonardo Di Caprio's character and not his wife. I didn't really care what happened to him in the final 45 minutes. Some great performances here, Bob De Niro on top form. I think Leonardo is the most overhyped actor of his generation though. I'm also in a minority in not loving this because everyone I spoke to who has seen it thought it was special.
The Killer (4 stars) - Loved this. New David Fincher film starring Michael Fassbender. It'll be on Netflix on the 10th. Doesn't break the mould, Fassbender plays an assassin who botches a job and has to right his wrongs. Just a well made thriller from a top director and a top actor. Could happily watch Fassbender read the phone book out, or in this case, just read in his head. One of those actors that can say everything he needs to say with his mouth shut. It won't change your life but it's a bloody cool film.
At home watched SCUM the other night for the first time ages and I've forgotten what a masterpiece it is. You're there, right in that borstal, in 1979. When a film is as palpable as that it's a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned.

Saw two movies last night :
First of was the bio pic Ferrari - highlighting Enzo Ferrari’s life in around 1957. I had seen some poor reviews on IMDb and wasn’t that enthusiastic about seeing it, but having a limitless card & being bored it was something to do.
I really enjoyed it, I’m not into cars or F1, but it’s a good movie directed by Michael Mann, who directed Heat & the best Hannibal Lecter movie Manhunter. The female leads (especially Penelope Cruz) were class, including Adam Driver as Enzo. I didn’t know any history on it, and one scent is a jaw opener. Worth going 7/10
Second was Night Swim, truthfully I hate jump scares and this does have a couple, but if you see this then leave your brain at home, it should be a tv movie tbh and is a pretty daft story. But if you are bored and want a couple of jump scares then maybe check it out 4/10.

Yes, bit weird innit ! Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it and there are some fine individual performances, just a few 'unsettling' scenes !

Godzilla Minus One - excellent and well worth seeing at the cinema.
Joy Ride - one of those mad gross-out comedies that was enjoyable enough.
House of Gucci - boring. I think they could've made a decent 90-minute film out of it.
I'm hoping to catch The Boy and the Heron at the cinema, but the closest showings are over 30 miles away, despite every cinema advertising it in my Facebook timeline, none of the locals are showing it. I thought it'd be more popular than Godzilla which was pretty full at the showing I went to. Stoke Film Theatre revealed last week they need £40,000 to reopen.

A dramatisation is never going to be wholly accurate. But the timeline of that was hopelessly flawed

Took my two boys to see Taika Waititi's "Next Goal Wins" with Michael Fassbender, the now well known story of the coach who takes on the American Samoa team fresh from their 31-0 defeat by Australia and at the bottom of the FIFA rankings. It's certainly not going to win an Oscar but as a family film it's 90 minutes of entertainment especially with it being football related.........

Yes mate. I thought it was absolutely garbage. I didn’t think it was weird at all, I just found it all quite contrived and a waste of a good cast. Emerald Fennell is one lucky person in my opinion.
