Saw all the Mission Impossible 3 up to Dead Reckoning last week, DR is my favourite so far in the franchise, might have something to do with Hayley Atwell 😉 Friday went to see Oppenheimer, I was a little bit underwhelmed during the movie, but probably the last hour was more interesting, loved the cameo of President Truman. Certainly if I had watched it at home, I would have become disinterested. Looking forward to Dune part 2 but other than that not much else to get excited about. Re Spider Man Across the spider verse, I fell asleep 5mins in and walked out before the end, as I didn’t have a clue what was going on lol. I thought the opposite with Oppenheimer. The first 2/3 leading up to the test was superb, and the last 1/3 when it became a political drama went on and on somewhat. But I’ll watch it again when it comes out on streaming services. More often than not I don’t think you can judge media effectively on first viewings. (Unless it’s complete dogshit or unambiguously mindblowing) Dunkirk for example I was somewhat underwhelmed on first viewing, but now consider it a masterpiece. What didn’t help was my mate insisting we watch it on imax. So we drove to Cheshire oaks instead of just going vue castle. Won’t be doing that again. It’s more expensive but the VIP seats are far more cramped and don’t recline. The last hour of the film my arse was numb and that definitely didn’t help, and maybe clouded my judgment that I didn’t care for that part of the film. It’s a shame because if the comfort levels were the same then I wouldn’t mind the extra hassle and cost of travelling to see blockbuster films in imax, but unfortunately you pay more money to be uncomfortable because they have crammed in too many seats at the Cheshire oaks imax. The only reclining seats are the front row, which I’m not a fan of. It’s not a business model I’ll be supporting again. I also don’t understand why films of a certain length don’t have a 5-10 min intermission. I end up depriving myself of drink in the buildup so I don’t end up needing to pee and missing part of the film. Dune part 1 is on prime btw. I watched for the 2nd time last night, having seen it when it first came out. It really is superb and I think I enjoyed it more on 2nd viewing. Can’t wait for part 2.

I watched the new Mission Impossible last night. I thought it was excellent, four stars out of five.
Straightforward plot and gripping action.

Been to see Talk To Me tonight, A24 horror.
Was bloody good fun if you are in to the genre and maybe even if you’re not. One of the most exciting first 60 seconds of a film I’ve ever seen.

The story isn’t Get Out levels but I found it interesting enough.

Went to see Meg 2 last night, i knew it be silly but the acting in this was Sharknado standard.
Statham must be paid a lot of money to be in this or drugged? Personally it’s so bad, the other actors are awful, if you want to spend your money go and see it, or wait for it to be on the small screen then you can turn it off lol
3/10 due to a couple of jaws Easter eggs in it…

Just got off the plane from LA.
Minority Report - enjoyed it more than I did as a teenager.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 - was kinda falling asleep during the pointless Marvel fights where it's totally random whether someone's hurt or not.
Covenant - thought it was great, would proper recommend 👍

Covenant - thought it was great, would proper recommend 👍 The Covenant is fantastic, I was working for the co-leads manager earlier in the year. He’s hopefully going to have a great career. I was lucky enough to see it on a cinema screen but it didn’t get a theatrical release here. Amazon shortsightedness if you ask me, it would have made a few quid as Guy Ritchie has a decent following over here.

Not just a cracking film but powerful message and looked like the atmosphere would be even better on the big screen. Bit of a change in style for Ritchie, no? I only remember his gangster stuff.

Taken Liam Neeson TV weekend in Sweden
Saw Taken on Friday Decided to see Young Morse season 9, episode 1, instead of Taken 2 on Saturday Saw Taken 3 on Sunday
Taken 5/5 Taken 3 5/5 - quite opposite to all the Media Reviews in Sweden for these films, they always get just 1/5 or max 2/5.
👍🤠👍

Spiral: The Book of Saw
I give it 2,5/5
About nasty cups who got free hands and killed some innocent people as well back in the days. A young guy witnessed his father being murdered that way and went for revenge. He joined the police and was positioned to deal with this case as a newcomber together with the dirty talker Zeke.
Since the newcomber wasn't side by side with Zeke in the police car the last half an hour, it was kind of obvious he was the guilty one.

Tonight I went to see Past Lives, American/Korean A24 film.
One of the best I’ve seen in a while. Slick romantic drama about near misses and long lost love. Childhood sweethearts are separated when parents move the young girl to Canada, and then reconnect many years later.
Might not be everyone’s cup of tea but I thought it was real life affirming stuff. Made me think of all the people we meet along the way and how big and how small the world can be at the same time. Think it will win awards to be honest.

Watched the 'Banshees of Innisherrin' on Disney Plus last night. Been looking forward to this for a while as I am a massive fan of 'In Bruges' also starring Brendan Gleeson & Colin Farrell. The film itself is not one for fans of adventure/action thrillers but it's a great, albeit slow paced tale set on a remote island off the coast of Ireland in the 1920's. The interaction between Gleeson & Farrell is as good as it was in 'In Bruges' & there are some fine supporting performances with plenty of laughs along the way. Overall it was a very enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours in front of a roaring fire with a glass of Leffe in hand & I would definitely recommend it, especially for the older Stokies who appreciate the Gone Fishing/Detectorists type of programme ! Agree, excellent film. In Bruges is a superb film, one of my faves but Banshees is as good, imho. 2 very good actors. Agree. Some humour in the first half but it's replaced by the deepening darkness. Their friendship is a euphemism for the war across the water.

The new Indiana Jones- meh. Just doesn't have the magic of the first three and Phoebe Waller-Bridge is annoying and trying too hard. The last part is ridiculous

This is REALLY fascinating. I searched the other day for The Film Thread, but the search function didn't find it. How can that be?
However, I saw Quantum Solace w James Bond and it was all crap, worst Bond film and one of the worst films I've ever seen.
0/5

Whilst Dominic Green is a bit wet behind the ears for a villain, the South American coup and all that about controlling the water supply is interesting and feels true to life. The Vienna theatre scenes are some of the best Bond in recent times as well.
