I see there was a mental health thread from Feb 2020 so feel free to merge but I think there may be different frequenters of the board ATM. There seems to be a lot of talk on here at the moment about mental health and how cutting down on alcohol, eating healthier and taking more exercise etc is helping folk cope - especially during the current C-19 'situation.' It was mentioned in another thread that people might be more comfortable discussing their particular circumstances anonymously on here rather than opening up to friends and family. It might be comforting to know that others are feeling the same way ATM, and also how others have overcome difficulties in the past. As the saying goes, 'It's OK not to be OK.' It also appears to be men who are notoriously bad at talking about this kind of stuff. I'd rather read about your difficulties on here than read/listen to your eulogy. Mental Heath FoundationSamaritansMacari CentreCALM - Campaign Against Living MiserablyMen Unite (Hanley Town)I'm currently feeling ok but of course I never know what's just around the corner.

I see there was a mental health thread from Feb 2020 so feel free to merge but I think there may be different frequenters of the board ATM. There were a couple of threads called (I think) 'Depression' on here in the past, Orbsy..... although they seem to have vanished into the older/further back pages some time ago. There were many posts in them, many of which were very long and detailed. I know that quite a number of people found them very helpful.

It’s an important issue especially at the moment. I’ve never been what I would call depressed but with jobs being lost etc it throws up all kinds of connected issues for people. I’d urge anybody feeling low or anxious about the current situation and beyond to get posting on here. A bit like the drinking too much thread, there are plenty of people in similar situations to give their take and experience on the issue👍🏻

Great thread, and massively important esp in these difficult times.
I have always been pretty level headed, but at the start of lockdown, esp as i was in limbo re furlough, I had a bit of a wobble...
Managed to get a grip, which is a saying I hate when used against other folks, but in my own case it's ok, stopped drinking, took up exercise and focussed.
Lost my job, but started up a new business, tough going, but hopefully will turn out good...

This is likely to become a more serious problem as we enter winter if restrictions on social gathering continue or increase.
Particularly for the young.

Strange thing depression it wasn't till I was diagnosed twenty odd years ago following a series of bad events
That I realised I'd actually been depressed all through my life over the following years I have had a variety of of tablets to keep a semblance of balance Which have kept me going
I'm now on my lowest dossage for years since I restarted pigeon racing which I know isn't for everyone But the pigeons and the daft labrador dog have given me that reason to get out of bed each morning
In my humble opinion a good animal will solve far more than a bottle of scotch

It's a time of the year when the national psyche is becoming geared to socialising in so many ways, having that forcibly restricted will be difficult for many.

How's the pigeon racing going? I imagine they're pretty quick aren't they? Finished for the season restarts in April there all moulting now Go down the loft in the morning and it's like a old fashioned pillow fight As for speed the fastest club race this season was one by a pigeon doing the average speed of 2073 yards per minute That includes it getting out of the basket slowing down landing and then trapping Obviously the speed is often dictated by the direction and speed of the wind But most races are won by a pigeon doing between 55 and 65 mph

The current situation's not helping a lot of people, you haven't got the fallback of matchday, a holiday or a big night out with friends to blast a few cobwebs away (well, you can go out but counting down towards curfew won't be the same). Christmas will be a bad time for many this year, people just want some light at the end of the tunnel.
When you're stuck inside unoccupied, your mind works overtime. I'm usually still awake at 4am these days.

If you are in a position to go and watch a local non league game step 3/4 and below I can recommend that it will surprisingly give you something to look forward to and often the standard is a lot better than imagined Is it a proper match day experience sadly no but it is a semblance of normality

I think this non league idea is a good one. There's plenty of non league clubs around me. I can walk to a Notts senior league ground so I'm off to check them out next time they're at home.

I’ve also been having thoughts about non league. Because I can’t be bothered to look and I’m a glory hunter who’s the best supported non league club around North Staffs?

Ric has just joined Hanley Town and they're doing well in the FA Cup atm Tickets might be tricky though. Newcastle Town have a decent setup and have Robin Van der Laan as manager with his 2 lads frequently in the team.

Good to see this thread make an appearance. We're entering a mental health crisis and anything we can all do to keep ourselves and others well is to be encouraged.
Have heard good id things about Men Unite, and thinking of going along myself. Not in a particularly bad place myself but a bit isolated and it's a slippery slope.
This will be the bleakest winter of most people's lifetimes, so look after yourselves.

I’ve had my battles in the past, seem to be coping ok at the moment but like everyone have good days and bad days, find I get quite overwhelmed with all the news stories and swing between ‘it’s not as bad as the flu, to lockdown and keep everyone safe’ depending on what day of the week it is.
Just wanted to post that if anyone wants an anonymous chat I would be more then happy to listen/message and offer any advice I could.
