His crying at the press conference announcing his leaving Barcelona really was cringe worthy. After 21 years the mard arse was crying to be leaving as he didn’t want to go. He cited the reason was that Barcelona couldn’t afford his astronomical wages. Here’s a good idea ….offer to take drop in wages as a gesture to the club who nurtured him for so many years. He looked really sad signing a 2 year correct worth near £30m in basic salary alone before bonuses and sponsorships. No he really didn’t want to leave did he The guy has been there since a 13 year old, he took a 50% drop in wages to continue playing and even if he played for free Barca still wouldn't have been able to sign or register him because of La Liga rules, it's well documented. I just don't understand how some people are so bitter about a player who has lit up the world of football consistently for 15 years +, certainly the best player I have ever seen and I've been incredibly lucky to see him twice in the flesh and each time the opposing fans have given him a standing ovation at the end of the game. On his crying, give him a break, he came to Barca as a kid (13 I think) all the way from Argentina, he's only known Barcelona FC and Barcelona his whole adult life, a few tears shed make him more of man in my opinion and they were heartfelt and genuine. Any blame for this sorry mess lies with the with the unbridled commercialisation of the game and the senior management at Barcelona FC over the last 10 years or so, players are pretty powerless in this environment no matter how rich or successful they are. Some mard arse, the tackles he has endured all his career would leave most fans bawling their eyes out and all he did 99% of the time was get up and punish the opponents with his sublime skills, a mard arse he is not.

Agree with your post. Not sure players are powerless though. Will need to think about that one.

I don’t agree with you so I’m thick. Haha that’s pretty moronic in my view. It’s not agreeing with my view mate, my view isn’t an opinion, the fact is that he couldn’t have played for free anyway, it wasn’t possible, the guidelines of the la liga prevent its possibility, he offered to reduce his wages to the level it was allowed in within the rules, this still not being low enough for Barca to make it possible, that’s not my opinion, it’s what happened

No he really didn’t want to leave did he You clearly think you know the situation better than Messi. A player in La Liga can take a maximum 50% reduction of wages when renewing a contract - he couldn’t do anymore than he did. If he’d have offered to play for free they couldn’t register him as it breaches the rules. They also have difficulty currently registering Depay and Aguero. So no, he couldn’t do this gesture you’re talking about. Also during the pandemic last May all Barcelona players took a reduction in wages so he’s now eligible for deferred payments which he’s not taking/asking for. These alone are worth €33m to him but he’s letting it pass - let that sink in €33m.

I don’t agree with you so I’m thick. Haha that’s pretty moronic in my view. It’s not about agreeing, you’ve spouted off drivel like it’s fact. Those who’ve followed the situation know the guidelines in place for FFP and registering players in Spain. You’ve chosen your own narrative which is so wrong.

I was firing from the hip when I first read the situation. Didn’t fully understand the reason for him leaving and I should have read more before posting. Oops I’m not the first to do this and probably not the last on here. I’ve taken down the original post so as not to cause anymore offence.
