U18 Squad GK - Paul CooperGK - Conor Robson GK - Xander Parke DF - Henry Nash DF - Julius Ndene DF - Tom Nixon DF - Jamie MelbourneDF - Iffy Udanoh DF - David Okagbue DF - Jake Cartwright DF - Mark Chidi MF - Tom Sparrow MF - Ibrahima SyMF - Sam Knowles MF - George Lewis MF - Charlie Edwards MF - Ted Cargill WG - Jai Verma WG- Kev Fernandes WG - Josh Waite
FW - Andre GodfrinneFW - Ryan Malbon FW - Shilo Waldo FW - Samy Bhari First Year Second YearWe've signed David Okagbue from Ireland too but no idea where he plays yet, will update this when it's all announced. Be interesting to see if Josh Ireland has signed too. U23 SquadI'm not going to include Souttar, Tymon, Collins, Campbell or Verlinden as imo they're all first team squad members now. I'm going to keep Sorensen in for now. We offered pro deals to a lot of the u-18s. No idea who's signed one yet etc but guess we'll see confirmation of that throughout pre-season. But I've added all of them in below. GK - Josef Bursik GK - Nathan Broome GK - Blondy Nna Noukeu GK - Robbie Hemfrey RB - Kieran Coates RB - Edward Jones CB - William Forrester CB - Lewis Macari CB - Mohamed Akandji CB - Connor Taylor LB-Ryan Corrigan DM-Lasse Sorensen DM-Rachid Balde DM - Dan Malone CM - Adam Porter CM - Gabriel Adebambo AM - Pat Jarrett WG - D’Margio Wright-Phillips ST - Douglas Taylor ST - Ethan Varion ST - Christian Norton ST - Will Goodwin So as things stand both squads need some players but the U-16s that are moving into the u-18s are meant to be very good so that should be good. Kyeremateng has been on trial at a club in Germany so it looks like he could be leaving? No loss really if he does go. 2 of the u23 keepers need a good loan really. With one staying to play in the 23s and be third choice. Hopefully Porter, Sorensen. Forrester and maybe Akandji (if he stays) could be in around the first team. oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/288698/stoke-city-development-academy-thread

U-23s look a bit light up top although Godfrinne should probably be stepping up.

What's the point of having an academy, when these young players seem to be able to clear off when they want to?

“I'm not going to include Souttar, Tymon, Collins, Campbell or Verlinden as imo they're all first team squad members now. I'm going to keep Sorensen in for now.“
It’s sort of snuck up on us but that is not a bad return as it currently stands.
With 3 very highly rated goalkeepers, Sorensen, Porter and one or two others showing promise, the academy could finally be starting bare fruit.
I just hope MON will put his trust in these lads and stop shunning them for experienced players that continuously flatter to deceive.

For me there doesn't seem to have been a cohesive plan around the development or promotion of young players for a long time. I hope that with MON we do finally have a manager that knows what to do with the massive investment the club has made in the academy. The first team squad definitely needs trimming down though if we are going to provide development opportunities. I think its already looking bleak for Sorensen's chances this season so the lad probably does need a good loan move.

I know it's not looked upon as a good thing but imo you need that continuity at a club. And you need someone who's best interest is the club in 3+ years time. It's a problem in all of English football not just here, managers scared of using good young players for whatever reason but it's just a sad indictement on the game over here.

Good to see the club are keeping us well informed. It beggars belief how lacksidasical we are when it comes to reporting on our youth sides. Every club at every level shows us up time and time again.

It's at every level now tbf and from what I've been told it's how Scholes wants it. We just aren't modern or forward thinking in anything we do. The u23s played Leek Town at the weekend, absolute fuck all. Who are the new 18s? I can't see that they've put the length of contract in the article for Mikel. Etc etc etc. People will say it's nitpicking but imo it's the bare minimum.

Maybe in his head it’s to stop fans getting restless about lack of opportunities to younger players, keeping them out of the limelight to the majority of fans. Things like this really fucking annoy me

Things like this really fucking annoy me I think he just likes to control everything from what I've been told. But we don't use the social media we have to the best of our ability or even close to. The YouTube channel might as well not bother. Nothing is done in good time. We have a million followers on Twitter, how do we use that to generate income? And I know that's horrible corporate shit but we need every penny we can get. But hey, they've got shit banter down to a tee.

Which is imo the issue we’ve had with Butland for years, people get blinded by the saves and let the other stuff go. I think it was last years Leeds game it happened? He clapped and it went out for a corner that a good goalkeeper would have caught the ball. He then pulled off a great save yes but we should never ever have seen it. May seem harsh but for me it’s fair. Blondy might be good but some of the stuff he does just seems amateurish. The parry being the one I like the least above.

Indeed but when the highlights consistently show bad errors and poor judgement calls then those saves people are saying he makes become less and less relevant imo. Like every other goal he seemed to concede last season he wasn’t on or within 10 foot of his line. Which is just criminal.
