Despite the fact I don't watch golf, I'm enjoying playing it in this Golf Story game at the moment. Coach is a gem, really encouraging:

Played my 6th round since 're-uptake' today. I'm utter garbage at the moment but will get back into it no doubt. The finest of the 'ambient' sports (with snooker coming a close second).

Its certainly a tough and frustrating sport most of the time, but if the weather is decent you can't beat it in my opinion. I used to love Snooker but was absolutely gash at it, like most lads in the 90's I could hold my own on a pool table, but snooker is ridiculously hard and even straight pots where a right challenge.

Haven't played snooker regularly for a similar amount of time either (although I played pool twice weekly pre-lockdown). This whole pandemic situation and the nixing of my regular 5-aside games has had me revisiting stuff I haven't done for years (sporting and non-sporting). By and large it's a good thing but I worry I'll take things too far and reignite long-forgotten passions of my youth. If you see me buying £500 coats and staying out for days on end in a 'Fear and Loathing'-style bender then please inform my Mrs and my employer and instigate some kind of intervention 😂

I have clubs but haven’t played in nigh on 10 years, and I’ wouldn’t describe what I do as “playing golf” but did used to love the walk and quite a lot of solitude. I’ve never sold the clubs so should resume sometime. And if I’ do, I also have the bargain of the century from nearly 20 years ago - when I still lived down south I worked in London and we had a plant in Slough I used to visit a lot ( and yes Betjeman was right, bomb the place please!!) and a girl in the office there had a partner who worked at Heathrow in customs and they impounded goods frequently. This was a right racket and said goods used to end up being sold by this girl, so one day she had a consignment of Dunlop golf shoes. At the time, I played more and was intending to carry on so I took a punt and bought 3 pairs at £10 a pair , 1 of which I used and could still use now and the other 2 are brand new, 20 years old and will frankly see me into my dotage , if indeed I ever take to the green stuff again. Also got about 100 brand new balls as it was people’s default present option for me even when I’d stopped lol . I would however indulge myself now with a proper trolley and carrying a bag seems like bloody hard work now !

I recognise the skill but for me it's as dull as ditchwater to watch, with the exception of the Ryder Cup which is good, probably because it's then a team sport.
Whoever said it was a good walk spoiled got it right for me.

Like a lot of people I had a love hate relationship with golf. It's a little known fact that I invented social distancing at the same time as pretending to hit a ball straight. I've probably had some of the funniest moments ever on the course either at my or someone else's expense. Going to France for a weekend and playing at Le Touqet with a group of friends was a highlight and as a destination I really can recommend it. Played off 12 at my best but haven't picked a club up in anger for years now. Two great links courses near here, Aberdovey and Harlech.

Basketball is the worst mainstream sport (that doesn't involve horses) The constant screeching of trainers on the court is enough to make your ears bleed. That’s what my Mrs says anyway, and for once I agree with her!

Had a mate who could get 'quite irate' when things didn't go his way, which as we were all pretty shit, was quite often. One of the most amusing was when we were playing what was then a Royal Navy course and frequented by a lot of officers and their wives. Three such wives were sat on a bench on an adjacent par 3 waiting to tee off when my mate hit his 6th wayward shot on the bounce and launched his golf club into some long grass about 50 yards from the bench the ladies were sat on. As we were stumbling about in the undergrowth one of the ladies shouted (in a very posh voice) "its over here" my mate said "I'm sorry what did you say?" She said "your ball, it's over here" Their faces were a picture when I told them we were looking for his club

My record was once arriving at the 3rd tee with the same ball, it still stands to this day. I once came within 2 inches of a hole in one which was met with so much mock sympathy from my supposed friends the rest of my round was scrutinised and consequently crumbled. The harder you try the worse it gets. Revenge is definitely sweet though.

I've got a pin in my wrist and I've lost movement and have no grip strength at all. I broke and dislocated my wrist at work trying to lock somebody up for burglary and he didnt want to come along for some strange reason.Considering I was chasing him from the scene after he left the building I think he wanted to escape 😁 To be fair it didn't end well for me and he did escape barsteward.

I'm desperately trying to break 90 at the moment. I'm in the same boat albeit no coach. Shot 2 rounds of 88 on the easter weekend, best I've done, but not broke 90 since then averaging around 93 on my local course. Playing a course new to me this evening so anything could happen.

I once had a dream round of 88 on the PGA National at The Belfry, I used to play at lot of DE Vere courses back in the day they used to do a voucher on par 3s £10 and if you hit the green in one shot you won a voucher allowing 4 players any course half price. We would often have 12 of us so even if only 3 did it we got another cheap round. Plus if you missed you got a voucher to spend £10 in the bar or shop, win win if you ask me.

Some long holes to allow you to open your shoulders and let rip. It the little things we would have breakfast and they would take your clubs to the first and come get me when it was our tee time.
