Kidgrove and Alsager are both good towns both have railway stations very local and both have very close access to the d road and M6 and both are full of good pubs and food outlets I know it's north but both would fit your budget although Alsager is far more expensive but although in Cheshire it pisses the fuck out of the locals that they have a Stoke on Trent post code. Kidsgrove is an absolute dump. The outskirts of Biddulph are far better and there are a few restaurants and a few decent pubs there.Kidsgrove is terrible mate.Or you could go in between and live in Mow Cop close to where I grew up my my teens. Being in Biddulph was pretty good. I used to make the journey from there to Butt Lane every day, lots of options for the trip and Mow Cop featured regularly. Good thing as well is a few minutes in the opposite direction and you've got Rudyard and all of Derbyshire on your doorstep. Best of both worlds for getting about.

He'll struggle without a time machine, tintown is long gone, it's this now - www.compendiumliving.co.uk/projects/weston-heights-stoke-on-trent/Looks ok from the blurb, the A50 and A34 aren't too far away but I think it's still a bit remote for him. Beautiful countryside on the doorstep tho and the city's only nature reserve is just over the road in Park Hall Country Park.

Looking at a few properties in Biddulph ourselves, from what I was told was to hold off for few months (if that long) and go in with an offer 10% below the asking price as prices will tumble soon, we’re surprised how many properties we’re looking at are actually empty.
Also looking for ideas around the Biddulph areas (Bungalow)

Just spotted your budget (180k) and I’d say right next to the M6 junction 15 (south of the city) is Westbury Park estate (Clayton) Three pubs nearby but a little further into Newcastle town on the right of Clayton Road you have a large new development of houses + flats perfect for a stroll into town?

Wasn't there a pub on the main road?

Some may say we have too many Takaways. Me included.
We have a good Chinese Chinese Garden. A fantastic Indian. Indian Heaven. A great Chippy that my mate owns Lakeside Fish Bar. A not too bad Kebab House (Flames) Two cracking real ale pubs. The Lodge The Railway. A Domino's Asda Spar and Sainsburys Local. A few new housing developments have been built.
We're right on the Salt Line which is great for walks. Right by the countryside. Like said a railway station. Which quite often you get on and get your journey for free to Stoke or Crewe. Like said bit pricey but a very good location a short drive away to A500 A34 you still get your countryside.

The Chinese you mention is the best take away I have ever had👌and we have had several from there. The Mere is a real cracking pub and not to mention Romazinnos Italian Resteraunt again top notch. If I had to move anywhere it would probably be Alsager👍

Just revisited this thread and now wondering whether muggle should have started a list of where not to live ! It might be a lot shorter.

More great info (both for and against places) from everyone. Noticeable increase in number of houses on the market, and prices starting to come down.
Have seen several I'm interested in, and having a proper look around (both online and on foot) is going to help pass the time over the next few months.
Will be back on here for info on specific pubs, as it'll be a while before I can sample them myself.
A good time to be buying a house, though wouldn't fancy trying to sell one atm.

Also looking for ideas around the Biddulph areas (Bungalow) Yeah if you can wait that seems to be wise. Prices will drop for at least a year, and it's down to your own circumstances how long you can wait to take advantage, and whether waiting us worth the hassle. 10% off is likely to be a fair offer, as prices will end up there or more anyway, so they'd be better accepting and moving on. Anyone know how many students from outside of area live in SOT/Newcastle? Will be a flood of houses on the market if they're not back next year.

I can advocate the move from Caverswall to Hartshill was without doubt the best decision I’ve ever made. Central to pretty much all towns, right by all the major roads you need, absolutely loads of pubs and a great community spirit. Moved from Caverswall as it was the opposite to what I just explained. Some of the best boozers in Stoke / Newcastle on the doorstep too. The main attraction of Hartshill is the choice of pubs on the doorstep.

Jesus I miss getting out for a few pints. Especially when your local shop thinks John Smith's is real ale.... Haha, grim. Corner shop by me is expensive and fridge isn't cold enough, but has a decent selection of European lager. I don't drink lager in pubs or ale at home, for reasons I'd struggle to explain.

I don't know Stoke as a place to live very well but I was at a the Mercedes garage recently and I believe that's Cobridge. I would say the pound stretches a long way there as far as housing is concerned.
