Sycamore Close, Pennine Way is where you need to be, entirely bungalows around there and you've got the Roaring Meg on your doorstep. Birthplace of Signal Radio. Good shout, been up and had a look around and have our eye on a few properties, really nice feel about the place Nice one. It's ok, Congleton only 10 minutes one way and for match days the coach company based in town lays on 7 coaches to the 365. Supporters club at Knypersley sports/cricket club. Meet there for a few beers before setting off. Sign up for membership (cheap) and coaches are FOC. Practically new v good health centre, 3 supermarkets and a spoons in the High street.

Abbey Hulton, or Fegg Hayes, with a big mention to Chell Heath. I know you jest but back in the day Fegg Hayes was a proper mining village on the edge of the city, the place wasn’t beautiful for sure but most of the people certainly were. I spent many happy childhood days at my Nana’s BM

Any meat on the bones mate? Decent community, pubs, shops? Quiet area with friendly locals. Within spitting distance of the stadium, staggering walking distance to quite a few decent local pubs ( plus Stoke town centre is a five minute stroll down the road). Train station is just down the road too. Shops are a sore point, we have a large Sainsburys, a Lidl and some smaller shops but ever since the dicks in the the council decided Hanley is the City Centre all funds are directed there and so that's where all the main shops are. We do have the best oatcake shop in the entire Potteries though. If you cycle then we have great access to the canal towpath system, so getting around by bike is a doddle. Best oatcake shop in the entire potteries? Where I need to know. I’ve been under the mistaken belief that was in High Lane, Chell. BM

Thinking of moving out of Stoke, not to far and thinking of Cheshire borders, Nantwich or even Baldwin’s Gate way.
Come across a place called Wistaston which seems quite pleasant but just within the borders of Stoke, just outside we’re really flexible, ideally 30-45 minute drive into Stoke for work.

BM I am not saying High Lane are the best but they are the best that I have tried and I try not to go anywhere else when I am back in the UK. People should not judge High Lane on their filled oatcakes. They microwave them which is shit. Why they want to ruin very good oatcakes by microwaving them to death is beyond me. My brother lives nr London Rd oatcakes so I will ask him about them as he is also a fan of High Lane. I apologize for highjacking a property thread to talk about oatcakes. This is my last comment on oatcakes on this thread.

Two contrasting perspectives on Boothen then. Both equally welcome. Probably my only pre-requisite is peace at night, so lads (literally) coming and going from brothels isn't going to work. No interest in any hassle whatsoever. Trying to work out the nearest walk to the station that's not a kip, and keep coming back to Penkhull. Is there anywhere else that's not up a bastard hill? Few new builds around. Any worth a look? Have seen some on the canal in Hanley, but no idea what chance they have. Boothen is a no-no. As people have stated and from what you say regarding train station/M6/A34....only one choice...Penkhull, couple decent pubs, close enough to Sainsburys/Tesco, close enough to HopInn and Greyhound in Hartshill. And most importantly, close enough to the Brit as well.

Lightwood and Rough Close are both attractive areas and closer to the city centre. With Barlaston Downs and Moddershall on the doorstep you have attractive scenery and, who knows, you might end up living next door to Denis Smith. I nearly killed Denis Smith accidentally when he was walking to the Swyno from the Windmill before lockdown 🤦♂️😂

Any Stokies from Audlem as we’ve seen a property that we’re seriously interested in, the town and surrounding areas look exactly what we’re looking for, few pubs, nice shops, restaurants and seems a genuinely nice place to live, Nantwich was our no1 choice but Audlem seems a bit slower pace. Forty minute steady drive into Stoke for me and twenty minute drive into Nantwich for the other half, wondering what the roads are like come winter??

Also do cracking pikelets too. Er...... I think that's a bake-shop, isn't it? If it's the one I'm thinking of they do some really lovely 'rustic' breads, too. I think the son of the lady in the shop had another bake-shop of his own in the Trentham Gardens shopping village until literally only a couple of weeks ago, and (it was in the Sennell) I think he might have closed it because of the loss of business over the lockdown, etc., and the rent being so high, etc. A great pity, because they deserve to succeed - their products are top-notch.

Can't go wrong with Trent Vale, handy location, shops nearby, central. Generally not much crime although you get the odd year when you just seem to get a bad crowd then after a bit it all seems to calm down.
Near to the hospital too, just a shame not so many pubs these days, either shut down or forever opening and shutting. There's the Black Lion of course which is a good community pub
Trent Vale gives you a good portion of what Penkhull might give you but cheaper house prices

Only a shortish walk into Stoke where there's plenty of pubs, is the Jubilee Club on London Rd still open? We (my Dad and me) used to fetch my Uncle out of there at 3 in the morning on a Sunday and go fishing with him

They've got boxing on and it's classed as a Charity thing which helps to fund it. Saying that, they don't get many in and I wouldn't be surprised if its one of the post covid casualties

It’s a fair old zig zag to Stoke, Penkhull and Hartshill from there. I’d still sway to Hartshill/Penkhull no pun intended but Trent Vale is a decent enough shout depending on what’s more important. All about the pubs me😏

Not been to Cottage and Oak Tree for a few years but they both looked like they hadn’t been open since I went there when I walked past the other day. Sutherland Arms is the best closest pub and Commercial is OK when it’s not riddled with unsavouries. AND the trouble with Penkhull from there is you need to be an Ironman to get up the bank🤣(and I’m only 39, had to have a sit down half way up🤣) That’s furlough for you!

Bentilee mate. Buy half a Street for that. Seems the properties at the bottom end of the price range at the moment in the area are around 90k, so it'd have to be a pretty small street, ours only has 6 houses and a bungalow in it and his budget wouldn't get him half that Later this year tho, who knows, prices everywhere could tumble dramatically. Bentilee born and bred....well, my Dad is anyway. Grew up visiting the grandparents on Waverton road. Spent the days out playing in the local fields and quarry, and spent the evenings down the local working mans club playing dominoes and bingo with my granddad and his mates. Shame to think that all that's gone now, but great memories nevertheless.
