Moving to Stoke for work reasons when it's safe to do so, and looking for some tips on where to live please.
South(ish) of the city, handy to transport links and walking distance to a couple of pubs are only real criteria.
Pros and cons of a few places worth looking at would be great.
Cheer lads.

Penkhull. Nice area Pretty central, close to D road, great pubs close by short walk into Stoke for Curry too.

It’s not really south, but I would consider Newcastle. Lots of pubs and a bit more centric in shape than most of the areas of SoT. You could probably find a decent place near the town centre.

Beautiful tree lined avenues, low crime, walking distance to all the pubs in Hartshill, walking distance to Stoke, close to the train station, close to the hospital, great views across the city, a real sense of community, etc etc. It's a top place.

Lived in Penkhull a long time Up by the church is still great but over by Princes Road towards Hartshill road really went downhill with drugs and crime.

All depends on budget and family make up I’d say, we’re thinking about moving soon but along the lines of Congleton, Alsager areas

My sister lives in Leek and is very happy there.
You choice really depends on where your workplace is, if you don't want to get stuck in rush hour traffic.

I suppose it all depends on your budget.

I love market Drayton. Pretty much in countryside and only 15 or so miles away

Abbey Hulton, or Fegg Hayes, with a big mention to Chell Heath.

Stafford. Or Stone. Hang on a minute, less of the snobbery. SOT is a leafy, green conservative constituency nowadays I'll have you know.

I'm sure you are right. I was attempting a joke. Of course if I was a snob I might have said somewhere like Nantwich. If I came back to the area though I would probably head for Eccleshall.

It depends on where in the city he is going to work.
Must admit I have often thought Stone would be a nice place to live.

To be honest if I moved it'd be out of Stoke. Always been in Penkhull so everything else is literally downbank. Wybunbury, Madeley, Nantwich way probably.

If I had to live south of the city I'd like to live in Barlaston. Fortunately I don't so I live in leafy Cheshire 😛

Lightwood and Rough Close are both attractive areas and closer to the city centre. With Barlaston Downs and Moddershall on the doorstep you have attractive scenery and, who knows, you might end up living next door to Denis Smith.

Appreciate all the replies lads. Mostly chiming with what I would've thought myself.
I know of most of the places mentioned, have had a pint in a few of them, but living somewhere is a different matter.
Access to A34/M6 South is key, and have no interest in crossing the city in rush hour.
Budget is £180k, but if I could get away with spending half that and getting somewhere half decent (which seems more doable in Stoke than most places) then I'd do that. A good time to be buying a house, but expect to lose money on it in the short term at least so a cheaper option would be attractive.
2 bed house or flat needed. Just me moving.
Thanks again for all the input.

We live in the North of the city otherwise I’d certainly let you take a look at our house, nice area, ace neighbours other than being a vale fan, south wise M6/A34 fitting your budget I’d say Meir Heath, my boss lives there and it’s a nice place with great access to supermarkets and there’s some nice pubs nearby, could be better places ppl from that neck of the woods could recommend though

Further to my earlier post, I've always thought Audlem was a nice little town/village, with all the necessary facilities like medical centre, post office, community centre, etc. There is a great little cafe there that caters for cyclists, there is the canal walk with a flight of 15 locks, and an annual festival. It has the distinction of being the most southern village/town in "the north" being in Cheshire, and is actually further south than the Bet365 stadium. There is a small block of flats. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audlemwww.audlem.org/

Thanks again for all the input. No-one's mentioned Clayton yet, Muggles --- got friends there and it always seems a very nice neck of the woods + the M6 and A34 access you need would be a doddle. Thursday is the day for the Sentinel's Property supplement, which should give you something of an idea of what's on offer + various areas and a rough price guide. I've tried to access their website for house sales to see if it would help you, but it was pretty much useless. I'll hang on to the pull-out supplement today, and if you want me to post it to you please PM me where to send it - it would be no trouble.

However, you might meet Denis Smith in the pub (Windmill)!

Once the doors are shut it dunna matter where you live you make a home over years so my advice is pick the house not the area and make it yours. There are nice places all over the city and shitholes all over the city 🤷♂️ you pay your money and takes a chance.

Thanks again for all the input. I would say Penkhull as well in terms of your budget, location and other needs. There's some really attractive terraces and town houses as well, for around £120k you could easily get a 3 bed terrace and for the top end of your budget there's some really nice 3 bed town houses with original features, big rooms with high ceilings and a small garden or terrace. Handy for the match as well, seems perfect......

You can make the house whatever you want but you can't change what it's like around you.
