In other Basford news, I’ve heard the following rumours. Gary the South African has left the Little Vic to take over the The Eagle in Eccleshall (I know this to be true). A Hard Days Night has changed hands and is currently receiving a makeover (hopefully will mean an end to their £3 half pint only policy). There is another pub opening very soon on the same side as the other two. Anyone else heard anything? When did Gary go? He was due to leave last week but I’ve not been in this week so can’t say for sure

No discernible change at The Hopp. Same standard of beers available, same clientele, although (like everywhere) prices have gone up a bit. The couple of times I've been in The Holy it's been rammed and they'd run dry of a lot of things, suggesting that there's been a slew of customers itching to get back to their favourite pub. It's great to see. In other Basford news, I’ve heard the following rumours. Gary the South African has left the Little Vic to take over the The Eagle in Eccleshall (I know this to be true). Hard day's night is having a refurb however it's the same owner and he's also as you say opening another bar on the same side. The owner is called Cuzzer , surname Curran think from Knutton family. He said he thought he was in London and got a bit carried away with prices and the fancy dan ideas. Also possibly doing more food as that's where the coin is.

It was based on a rumour to be fair. It’s got potential to be a good little boozer but I didn’t like it at all previously with all the Beatles stuff and ludicrous prices. Hopefully a rethink on this will improve it no end. Great news on the other boozer👍🏻

Was gonna nip to Hartshill for a couple early doors then get back in for Wales vs Denmark. However, my mid-morning trip to Morrisons was unexpectedly extended due to a ridiculous amount of traffic exiting Festival Park meaning that by the time I got back it wasn't worth going for a beer if I wanted to get back in time for the football. As such, I've sat in most of the day polishing off the last of the Goose Island IPA that I had left in and am about to start on the Bevertown Neck Oil I picked up from Sainsbo's the other day. If I'm still awake at the end of Austria vs Italy I may be compelled to use Google Translate in order to learn some German insults to hurl at the TV when Arnoutovic appears.

Go for it mate, you only live once✊🏻 Enjoy a tipple yourself mate. I’ve been a tad chavvy today. Had 3 bottles of Krombacher with the cricket and now into my next 4 with the footy. I’m not going out as I’m too embarrassed as my Mrs got thrown out of the Greyhound last Saturday IN THE DAY! Shameful

Used to hate lager too but now enjoy a cold un!

I find certain Largers really refreshing hop house Pilsner moretti etc. Ones i dont think you can go wrong with are Dead Pony Club Brewdog. Shipyard IPA Hobgoblin IPA as mentioned.

Recent jaunts have taken me to , in no particular order…
Artisan Tap - few Gamma Ray’s, not much going on really. Never personally fallen in love with the place like others have.
Holy Inadequate - not lost any of its magic over lockdown, I adore a Tiny Rebel Club Tropicana in there. The woman behind the bar is great.
Little Vic - shan’t bother now Gary has left, heard the new guy doesn’t serve a nice pint.
Red Lion - can’t get enough of the Red Stripe pints in there to be honest. £3.60 and as refreshing as it comes. Used to rinse it at £4.20 in my old Brixton local which is the only other place I’ve found it. Not encountered any of the rowdy kids in there myself.
Marquis - it’s alright.
Wetherspoons Newcastle - still the no.1 spot if you find yourself caught short in town and in need of a dump. Snook in and out before the Czech game without even doing track and trace.
Terrace, Penkhull - had a nice drink in there this week, always receive a warm welcome and a nice cold San Miguel. Highlight was having a few games of actual pool.

I haven’t heard anything about Jolly Potters, wish I’d done it myself because that beer garden could have made a small fortune with the Euros on.

Noticed they were doing 2 bottles for £10..brought 6 bottles of mcguigan black label thought that's OK for £30 thinking it wouldn't be part of the offer checked receipt out side and the offer applied to them aswel only payed £22.50 for the 6 Works out £3.75 a bottle normally retails at about £7..so went back in and got another 6

Just been Glebe then Bru in Stoke.
Nobody in either but this meant I could watch the first half of Holland vs Czech Rep on my phone unhindered.
Nice couple of pints of Hawaii Five Joe IPA in Glebe then two pints of ABK pilsner in Bru.
A very agreeable afternoon was had by all but I'm now at home with nothing else in to drink other than a few bottles of Spar-bought Heineken that some schleppers left at my house the other week.
Ah well, needs must.

Made it to the Lakes. Spent £43 on 8 cans in Beer Ambleside. Some mad shit, one's green because it's brewed with Spirulina. God knows what the state of the bog will be afterwards. A couple of them were daft priced American ones. Just nailed a bottle of wine with 3 courses at a nice restaurant that I haven't been to in an awful long time. Crocodile Dundee on the telly now and crack a few of those cans open. Got three of this brewery's I'm going to start on - session stuff www.abbeydalebrewery.co.uk/home/beers/heritage/Buzzing.

The Robin Hood in Hartshill serves it too. I started going in the Robin Hood quite before lockdown and sampled a few. Haven't been in since though. Forgot to mention the Old Brown Jug in my last post or The Jug as it has rebranded. It's comfortably the worst pub in Newcastle/Stoke now. Some of the bar staff are beyond rude, you have to use that dodgy round app to order and the drink is shite. Don't like to say it's full of kids now because we were all that age once but it's also full of kids now. Sometimes you just fancy a late one though.

I've been in a few times, always enjoyed myself but I know others have a few scare stories about the reception they receive.

I know the landlord at Bridge St(West Ham fan). I decorated it when he bought it as a battered old antique shop. Just don’t think he appreciates drunken debauchery bless him😏
