Agree about the brown jug mate, shite! Do you ever go in Bridge St? It's a shame because 10 years ago it was magic. It was bloody expensive as well at the time but still rammed every night and just had something special about it. I've been in a few times, always enjoyed myself but I know others have a few scare stories about the reception they receive. It was magic back in the day, however, I haven't been in since Nige (RIP) had it. Every report I've heard since however is in keeping with what you said so on that number I shall continue to give it a miss.

It was like a Wild Western.

I know the landlord at Bridge St(West Ham fan). I decorated it when he bought it as a battered old antique shop. Just don’t think he appreciates drunken debauchery bless him😏 Used to have the Red Lion didn’t he? And the one down Stoke

Spent an enjoyable early evening in Mellards and Hopwater Cellar yesterday.
Service is a bit of a wait at Mellards due to the cocktail prep for people but there was only one member of staff working so it was to be expected. Had an Aumundsen pastry sour in there which was perfect for the weather.
Only intended to have one in Hopwater and ended up staying until closing. Fairly calm and chilled with a decent turnover of patrons. To be expected you'd need to book a slot over the weekend I'm afraid.
Sampled a couple of their sours on tap and a verdant IPA, all up to their usual standard. Had a sour from the fridge which was better than all of the others though.
Outstanding selection as usual and this will only go up as they are removing the casks and going up to 10 taps.

I'm not sure exactly what I've been drinking but I do know that I appear to be blind in one eye as a result.
IT'S COMING HOME!

Just been down to Spode pot bank thing in Stoke. What a fantastic evening, got there at 6 and had 5 pints of Cruz campo and a expresso martini👀with a stone baked pizza. Fantastic service, zero masks and a great time had by all. Not been out much as didn’t want all the restrictions but I’d highly recommend going here on a Friday evening. Lovely stuff. Oh and a couple of very acceptable local bands/singers really set the mood for a good night. Only blot was a few bell ends singing England songs whilst the music was playing, soon shut up when they realised no one gave a fuck👍🏻

I'm not sure exactly what I've been drinking but I do know that I appear to be blind in one eye as a result. IT'S COMING HOME! That happened to me after a tour of the Sandemans Port factory in Porto, I have no recollection after entering the tasting room until the next morning when it felt like glass in my eyes for the next 3 days

Post-Lockdown drinking. A co-worker gave me a bottle of rum ( Brugal 1888) for some woodworking stuff I did for him. I normally don't take any money for this type of work as I just enjoy doing it and that whole joy of giving nonsense. Anyway, this rum is quite good and may be the best I've tried. Sort of reminds of softer bourbon a little bit. In fact, I may prefer it to my go to bourbon...not sure yet. Guess I may need to pour some bourbon as well and compare. If a fellow reader gets a chance, give it a try, don't think you'll be disappointed.
