Marmite chap and mad as a hatter Is he open do you know? Greyhound is the best place I've been in so far. You don't know whether you're coming or going in the Marquis. It's been a stressful 12 months so I try not to pass any judgement on the owners. Yes open and no pre booking. I’m going down Friday tea time for my maiden post lockdown voyage👀 Greyhound in Penkhull? Marquis has been shite for a few years!

I’m partial to a Guinness or ten but have been too frightened to have one yet because as much as I love the stuff I hate it when it’s shit. Not sure where the best place is for one around here really.

Decided to go out quite late on this afternoon (around 4pm) in the hope of sneaking into somewhere without the pre-requisite of booking.
Greyhound Penksville was rammed and so we had a walk along to Artisan Tap only to find the same situation at that establishment.
After drawing two blanks we were pleased to be admitted to The Red Lion without any hassle whatsoever. I'd not been in this pub for a good 3 years prior to today and it looks like it's changed ownership and had a bit of a spruce up.
Big, expansive sun-dappled beer garden out back that was only sparsely populated and, although not a huge selection of beers on offer, what they did have was of a decent quality and inexplicably cheap - pint of Red Stripe and a double gin and tonic for less than a tenner.
All was going well until around 6.30pm when a steady stream of throbbers started rolling in. The overall ambience didn't change immediately but you could see that it was going to get a bit rowdy (this was confirmed when I went into a toilet cubicle to get some tissue and there was about 3g of jazz salts all over the floor).
All in all, not a bad afternoon session given the circumstances but not a place I'll make a habit of frequenting once 'normal times' resume.

I used to drink in the Red Lion regularly, never been a haven of decent beers but had a certain “appeal”, not quite sure what it was. The people probably. Anyway, the former proprietors of The Jolly Potters run the Red Lion these days. Jolly Potters was closed down due to drug dealing and a similar crew quickly infiltrated the Red Lion, it’s full of “throbbers” much of the time which is a shame because it’s a pub which so much to offer in the right hands. Last night I made my post lockdown debut at the Little Vic on Basford bank. I’ve missed it. Had a cracking night with a couple of friends, all was very well organised, beer was great, and the staff I have to say were superbly entertaining and hard working. Well impressed.👍🏻

I think I might put up with a few throbbers to sample a few.

Arrived in Sandbach town at 3pm where bar 6 a gin bar on cobbles gave us 3 seats round a little table. 3 or 4 Beers too choose from we had 3 Big Wave Golden Ales at 4.4%
Then it was onto Old Hall for our 4:15 slot. A few ales of choice. We chose Camden Hells at 4.6%. Fish Chips Mushy Peas Tarte sauce was purchased as we were eating. Good food in my opinion.
Bar maid did tell us table was booked again at 7:30. Not sure it was as there was 1 or 2 tables empty when i left. All in all good session. Walk back to Alsager via canal and Salt Line was plesent. Jacket needed tho especially at Old Hall. Chilly when suns not around.

Forgive my ignorance but has anyone seen or drank this lager before. Spotted it in the co op all on its own. Seems to be in short supply.

Top choice and right now my fridge is full of Kona Longboard lager. That's a lovely walk too, you're making me jealous. I did Alsager to Mow Cop via the canals a few times during Nov/Dec when it was sunny but the fking pubs were closed. Videochatted my office mate the other night. Echigo stout (Japan), Paulaner Munich lager (Germany), Leo something or other (Thailand).

It soberd me up aswell which was good. Kona yeah was a nice pint to be fair. They dont have loads on as they class themselves as a gin bar. To be fair Sandbach is alright for food and drinks. Some nice places.

Gary was bed ridden with back spasms! Two lovely and very entertaining ladies serving, hilarious the pair of em. Not seen em before. Decent beers? I just stuck to a few Prahvas, nothing too heavy as had to go to work next day. Will probably go again this Friday though.

Ended up at Sandyford CC yesterday afternoon as a mate was playing. Moretti on draught which took the edge off having to watch cricket and Beige FC doing their thing.
Had a couple of bottles of Duvel when I got back home, Jeez I forgot how nuts that stuff is. I've got two big bottles of Hoegaarden in the fridge for later.

Have you tried Blue Moon, which is on draught at the Crown and Thistle on Kidsgrove Bank.

I'm partial to Blue Moon but think we're being robbed for it as it's brewed in Burton and not imported anymore. Gone full beer ponce with today's selections, 2 pastry stouts and a sour palate cleanser: Aumundsen Dessert in a can: Chocolate Peanut butter brownie 10.5% Kees Sticky Toffee Pudding 14% Maltgarden Pudding Time:Double fruited pudding sour with mango, yellow papaya, calamansi (?!) and Vanilla 8.5%. It's outstanding. Surprisingly despite the ingredients it's Polish in origin!

Had Bottlecraft booked again yesterday but ended up cancelling as it started raining just as we were about to leave (they have no covered seating and I'll be fucked if I'm sitting in the street in Hanley drinking in a drizzle).
Had a couple of Blue Moon 330ml tins left over from last week so had them whilst watching the snooker.
Picked up some more Tiny Rebel Clwb Tropicana and Cali Pale from Sainsburys Stoke this morning so will likely crack into them should Man Utd vs Liverpool ever get underway or failing that, during the evening session of the World Snooker final later.

Tiny Rebel Cali is bloody gorgeous. I frequented their bar in Cardiff on a work trip down there back in December, when the Welsh had pubs open and we did not. I met up with a girl I used to go to uni with who’s from there, who, incidentally, is also bloody gorgeous.

I'm not sure if this is the relevant thread for this but I was interested to see that Noahs in Hartshill has closed again, in fact voluntarily by the management, less than two weeks after lockdown restrictions on pubs were partially lifted. It seems that the local patrons and good citizens of Hartshill cannot be trusted to behave sensibly and maintain good order in compliance with covid rules. Mind you as Noahs Ark I always imagined the place to be somewhat disreputable at the best of times so this may not be surprising. I expect that as the resident spokesman for the area, then the Badger will have some relevant or enlightening comment.

It’s a shit pub well known as a haven for drug dealers to meet up and cause havoc resulting in numerous police visits and so called gangs meeting for a dust up. I don’t know the current owners/managers (its part of a chain of notoriously poorly run boozers) but it’s been the same for the last five years or so and got worse, May as well turn it into flats because it’s the last place I’d go for a beer in the area as would anyone I know. Just a general overview mind😉 As an aside, there isn’t one person I know of in Hartshill and surrounding areas (and I’m a big cheese in these parts🤣) who uses the Noah’s for a drink. Make of that what you will

Oh right. That probably explains a lot. Not being in the area makes it difficult to keep up with things, but I saw a news item on this and was curious as to how this might have happened. And yes I was aware of the pub by reputation. Thanks for your insight Badger.

With my second pint of Cali Pale I snacked on a picked egg, some deep fried gherkins and a packet of twiglets I found in the van. She said my breath stunk.

Make of that what you will It's generally full of beaked up wankers and, considering it's a shit pub with shit beer, is quite expensive. There's several better pubs in the Hartshill area, the best two being Artisan Tap and Hopp Inn I'd say.
