Ben Howard at Manchester Apollo on Tuesday just gone, it was garbage, we left after 40 mins. The last one before that, was David Byrne at the MEN last month, which was one of the gigs of the year. Going to see Chic tomorrow night and Richard Ashcroft next weekend, will be extremely surprised if we leave either of the shows early. Why on earth did you want to go see Ben Howard?? He's like watching Ed Sheeran on downers. Anyway having seen Richard Ashcroft with and without the Verve several times you may feel more disappointment on the way. I remember watching him at Isle of Wight just after the verve reformed, the crowd were up for it and then between songs he said something like he'd been close to killing himself the week before, anyway he totally killed the atmosphere and we all walked away thinking what the fuck just happened.

I saw this in Memphis last year. Elvis's original band played to film of him. Many people said that it was as close as you could get to the live appearance. I thought it was brilliant, brilliant atmosphere in Memphis.

Chance to show how cool or uncool you are by sharing your last live music experience. Last Friday in my case, I took a punt on a Canadian band I'd heard about off a friend. It was at a venue in Manchester called 'Pink' and yes it was very pink as it happens. Only around 60 folk there and despite being spoilt a tad by a baseball capped sound engineer with a penchant for overdriven sub woofers, the band were brilliant and I'd deffo go and see them again Whoooo?

Kurt Vile at the Albert Hall in Manchester a few weeks back.
Next one at the minute The Villagers at Manchester Cathedral.
I haven't got time to indulge in this....

Slightly off topic as I'm sure it was 1982 ish. Will someone please confirm that I haven't had a weird dream and I saw Simple Minds supported by China Crisis at The Kings Hall in Stoke. My mate says I'm talking bollocks, tried Google to no avail just shows Signal radio shows. Cheers You didn't dream it - well, I can't prove the China Crisis bit (no info), but here's the King's Hall date: Setlist.fm Info

I'm taking my mum to see Sophie Ellis-Bextor, which is a good excuse. On a serious note, I saw her at Manc Gorilla with a 'proper' band and they were excellent. She's a really good front woman. Wedding Present Gladstone gig re-arranged for 15/6/19, but at Keele as part of the 'Bizzaro' 30th Anniversary Tour. Mmmm bit of a let down, re the location switch, and that. It was bizarre (no pun intended) that was - did you see the stage? It wasn't fit for purpose. Any rain slightly off vertical was on the pedals. I hope Melys support at the re-arranged gig - that'd convince me to go. I'm not into TWP much these days (and have always preferred Cinerama, apart from their recent album), but their gig at The Sugarmill in the early 00s is one of my favourites. And speaking of stages unfit for purpose, I remember seeing Kasabian at The Sugarmill after the stage on some field in Stoke somewhere blew over. We saw Tom (frontman) and asked what was going on. "Stage blew over, we're off to The Leadmill," he said.

Went to see The Dead South at the O2 Academy in Leeds last night - they were excellent, and the support act (The Hooten Hollers) were very good too.
It's a good venue (converted Victorian chapel), not too big (all standing last night and great atmosphere) and only a short run to the railway station to catch the last train out of Leeds at 23.30 back out to our house. Provided much amusement for my teenage daughter too to see her Dad groovin' the evening away like some kind of Staffordshire hillbilly. A good night all in all.

I was at a Belle and Sebastian gig with my son last year. As people were starting to get up and dance he looked at me and said "Don't even think about it" of course I ignored him.
I was supposed to be accompanied by my daughter to a Villagers gig in Manchester in three weeks time but she just informed me that she's buggering of to Milan for a month

I love The Dead South - going to see them in Brum on 17th Feb at the O2 Institute, really looking forward to it. I preferred their original line up when Danny was on the cello and Colton on the banjo, but I believe they're both back for this tour, hope so anyway.

That was certainly the line up last night, although Colton has shaved his hair and beard off and consequently looks about 12 years old now. They did about an hour and half and then came back on for an encore - you'll have a great night in Brum I'm sure.

I think I last saw them in about 1988 Hi, in 1988 they did the big tour with the original lineup AND the then current lineup. These days it’s the Captain and Dave Vanian and they now have Paul Gray back on bass from the early 80s lineup that did Strawberrues and the Black Album. I’d say go see them cos they’re on brilliant form , have been for last 4-5 years. Should be due another tour next year . Only downside is Captain is a massive Palace fan lol

The Residents at Gorilla Manchester, 30 quid, 50th anniversary tour, never seen them before, really wanted to witness it all, won't ever see them again on these shores... Good. They were gash. Same song for an hour and a half {which was nursery rhyme shite} Once I'd seen the costumes that was the interest gone. Worst gig I've paid to go in... didn't stay for the encore {neither did many others}, Disappointing....

But crossing fingers cos I just booked for a band I really like but never saw who are doing some fairly rare UK shows in June, the Stray Cats. Hoping they’ll be incredible

Never seen them but sure the Cats will be mint.. Residents took the 'Situationist' thing to a new {shit} level... people were trying to convince themselves it was cool.. 'Watergate' references just left me extra-cold.. Seen VaVaVoom a few times, they're mint. Yeah the Stray Cats should be great... I wouldn't build up expectations too much.. think that's the bestest rule.

Agreed, it’s apparently their 40th anniversary tour , clincher for me was they’re used to playing massive shows in US but over here it’s the Brum academy, so a proper old sweat box of a venue. High hopes. Residents gig sounds like hell on earth, pity. I go and watch a few metal bands and old punks too. Fair play to Cats, was less than £40 a ticket. Sunday night and I’ll book day off after , and as you say if they do “rock this town” which they will, I’ll be fairly delirious
