Saw Rival Sons in Manchester last Saturday. Probably the 6th or 7th time I've seen them, first time around was at Gorilla in front of 300 people, this time 3000 at the O2 Academy on Oxford Road.
They're a band I'll always pay to see live but they're starting to attract a few dickheads following them, or maybe that's just the venue this time? It's a place I can just about tolerate and suffer if there's no alternative option. Sad when the Liverpool equivalent is such a great place.
Also saw John Corabi (ex-Motley Crue, current Dead Daisies) at the truly outstanding Eleven on Tuesday night. Great to get the opportunity to see him in a small venue in front of 100 or so people.
Had an interesting conversation with one of the staff on the door who explained that word of mouth amongst musicians is getting around about it being a great venue to play. Corabi asked them to play there, and they were shocked and chuffed. Then she said that the ethos behind the venue was to create an old Stoke Wheatsheaf vibe, in which case just take my wallet and empty my money. I keep harping on about it but use it, don't be snobbish about the tribute acts, they're clearly decent enough to sell 300 or so tickets sometimes to fill the place.
Stonebroken at the Sugarmill in Hanley on Wednesday coming up. Never seen them live but heard good reports.

.... Get very few bands coming up to FNQ. Unfortunately missed Courtney Barnett a couple of weeks ago in Cairns. Saw The Charlatans at the Triffid in Brisbane late last year. Off to see the Happy Mondays in Brisbane next month. Then Groovin The Moo festival in Townsville in May. Will give my annual update on that

It's a great venue and at the right end of the city 🙂 Saw Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes at the sugarmill on Friday. Don't like them as much as his old band, Gallows, but they still put on a good show. He still stage dives off the balcony too which is worth seeing.

Just been told by my mate that he's got tickets for the virgin Mary's on Wednesday and transmission (joy division tribute) for Saturday.
Definitely enjoying my gigs this year. Moreso than the football.
Forgot to say I saw cancer bats 2 weeks ago at Sugarmill. They were decent but the support band were better, called bleed from within.

Free parking, food on site, never seems overcrowded even when sold out. Only issue for me is the hour travel.

Skam, Those Damn Crows and Stone Broken at the Sugarmill last week.
Skam improve every time I see them, getting a very heavy sound going now.
Those Damn Crows, great frontman and some really anthemic tunes, will go out of my way to see play again.
Stone Broken lived up to expectations, very polished for such a young band.
Worked the crowd really well and the set flew by. Says a lot when even though I don't own anything by them I knew half of their songs.
All in all well worth £15.

LOL The Macc Lads brilliant, remember when they used to Play the Waggon and Horses at Meir (where the medical centre is now) and the time they played live on top of Radio Stoke in Hanley and the Police fetched them down for disturbing the peace LOL
