You really are a lot of right little ravers and 'eadbangers on 'ere, arncha?! The last 'gig' I went to was 'The Mikado' in 2005! "Taken from the county jailllllllll, By a set of curious chances Liberated then on bailllllll…….. On my own recog---ni---zances"Absolutely brilliant! Oh, no, sorry - tell a lie……. been to two others since then: a Chopin concert - ( no, he wasn't playing personally - you know who you are) - in Krakow in 2006 and then in 2009 to see a load of Ruskies singing and dancing in some sort of extravaganza at the Kirov …..... couldn't understand a bleedin' word of it, but one of the chaps definitely had the biggest balalaika I've ever seen.

Ben Howard at Manchester Apollo on Tuesday just gone, it was garbage, we left after 40 mins.
The last one before that, was David Byrne at the MEN last month, which was one of the gigs of the year.
Going to see Chic tomorrow night and Richard Ashcroft next weekend, will be extremely surprised if we leave either of the shows early.

He's like watching Ed Sheeran on downers. Anyway having seen Richard Ashcroft with and without the Verve several times you may feel more disappointment on the way. I remember watching him at Isle of Wight just after the verve reformed, the crowd were up for it and then between songs he said something like he'd been close to killing himself the week before, anyway he totally killed the atmosphere and we all walked away thinking what the fuck just happened.

Went to see Mercury Rev at the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds last night. Very good - started off ethereal, paper-thin and gentle, and ended up in what amounted to organized feedback. The support act (Nicole Atkins) was good too - she had a beautiful, rich New Jersey (I think) voice.

As much as I know it'd be outstanding I can't bring myself to pay £80 to see JB when I got all of Black Country Communion for the same price. Ridiculous I know but purely psychological.

I've seen RA loads of times, twice in the last year, he's always been great.

You shouldn't have been looking You couldn't miss it, Fel. One of these days he'll 'ave somebody's eye out! Many years ago I went to a Christening at the Elim Penticostal church I believe they call it a dedication. There was a band playing on the front row and the guitarist was swinging it around like a weapon for anyone directly behind him

Jools Holland and his R&B orchestra at the Cambridge corn exchange. Actually a pretty decent gig up close and personal. Place was packed but then it isn't the largest place to play.
Not as good as The Jam at Wembley arena though.

84 year old Frankie Valli a couple of weeks ago, took the wife & mother-in-law, he actually put a good show on, got the oldies proper dancing in the aisles, i'm sure he can't be singing the whole thing live but he knows how to hold a crowd still.
Last proper gig was Travis at the Symphony Hall in the summer, brilliant night.
Next gigs in the New Year are Squeeze, Paul Carrick & The Stranglers at various places in Brum

Good man, I saw Fish at the Ritz in Manchester 2 weeks ago and seeing I.Q. at the Met in Bury on 12th January. Also booked to see Haken in Manchester on 15th February.
As regards ticket prices, I think a lot of the "bigger names" are ripping off their fans with £60 to £80 a ticket the norm for Arena Gigs. There are lots of "smaller" bands that put on great shows at places like the Met in Bury, the Citadel St Helens, Manchester Academy and The Band on the Wall in Manchester. Also some great Tribute Bands about - my favourites Stillmarillion, The Watch play Genesis, Re-Genesis and numerous Pink Floyd To name but a few.

It’s too pricey for sure but in truth the Mrs wants to go more than me. Seen him 3 times so I’m sated as far as he’s concerned but the good lady deserves it. Besides I can meet the chaps the following day and go Millwall😉

I thought about going to the Great Lake Swimmers gig, and Frankie Valli. I'm trying to cut down though - I've been to around 40 gigs this year, some in London but mostly Birmingham or Manchester, so an 80+ mile round-trip each time. 8 of those were Teenage Fanclub (playing 5 different albums plus b-sides).
My last gig was The Heather Findlay Trio last weekend at Slade Rooms in Wolves. The support act cancelled so she supported herself. It was rather awesome, with a trio version of Shrinking Violet (original below), and a couple of the best live covers I've heard, by Sandy Denny and Pink Floyd.
I may check out QEII at Eleven in Stoke later this month. Other than that I don't have anything booked until James in Hanley. I'm tempted by Yann Tiersen in London and will see Gemma Ray in Leek in March if I'm not away.
