We did loads of City Breaks prior to Covid and really need to get back doing so, returned from the Caribbean recently and as much as I enjoyed it I like venturing into cities for food, beer, talking to folk and generally taking my time looking at the surroundings, 2-4 days is enough for me and the shortest flight time preferably. (Miss my dog in truth)

I'm not a fan of capital cities - half of their history is buried by commerce, they're choking with traffic, too spread out to walk around easily, and full of their own importance.
So here's a few smaller places I can recommend.
Evora & Lagos (Portugal) Annecy and Carcassonne (France) Trinidad (Cuba) Queenstown (New Zealand) San Sebastian and Cadiz (Spain) Chester
But the most awe inspiring places I've been to had next to no people anyway...

Recently spent a few days in Cádiz, yes it's interesting, good place to go Would absolutely love to go but the airport is in Seville is that right? How did you get to Cadiz and how much did it cost if you don’t mind me asking? We went to Seville for a few days first - fantastic by the way - then train to Cádiz, about 1 hour 40 For both of us... I can't remember... It wasn't peanuts like you can pay in Germany or Holland but it was massively lower than you'd pay here and all really easy

So for a week would you say a couple of days in Seville and the rest in Cadiz would be a good week? As you can probably tell I’m itching to get to Cadiz. It was watching a Rick Stein cooking programme that drew we in, just looked so laid back and picturesque and I’ve wanted to go ever since

Seville is a beautiful city and one of my all times favourites
Malaga and Alicante are two other gems that bizarrely people only ever fly into then shoot off to wherever they are holidaying…..try them you’ll be amazed

Interesting thread.
I’m not overly well travelled. Still quite young but hope to become more well travelled as time goes on.
My issue is I just get overwhelmed with choice and then just end up not going to as many places as I should. Or just taking the easy option and going all inclusive somewhere like Gran Canaria for a week (which is where I am now).
I want to do everything and it makes choosing really difficult!
How do people tend to choose the places they go?
How do people find travelling with young kids as well?

How do people tend to choose the places they go? How do people find travelling with young kids as well? A few years ago I decided to go through the alphabet as I didn’t know where I wanted to go. Started with Australia, then Bali, then Cyprus, then Denea, then Egypt, then Falmouth. That’s as far as I got with it, it kind of tailed off towards the end🤣 I felt like it was a good idea though and should have stuck with it really. Covid intervened

Toronto = New York - been to both Toronto felt very similar to me, I think it even substitutes for it in TV and films. Not a fan of either really. Chicago is a proper world city everyone should try, Vancouver similarly. Off to Austin, San Antonio and Denver in September then want to try SE Asia in Feb 25 and possibly Boston and Asheville later that year. I prefer cities to beach holidays but just pick where I fancy, there's plenty of vlogs on YouTube. To be honest I've started noting places in North America through beardmeetsfood, North Carolina is on my list just because the people seem friendly.

Was in Chicago last year, going again later this year, I'm in Porto at the moment and was just talking in the hotel bar to two yanks from Chicago, last leg of their 2 week tour of Portugal in a hire car, Saudi it was very scary for them all those tight roads in little towns

Just need to fit it in. I'd go for a week each year, money no object, and be happy just mooching around.

Went Toronto last month, fantastic city the skyline very New York esque loads to see and do the people were friendly. Plenty of choice of bars and restaurants. The CN tower had fantastic views. Stayed downtown near the harbour. Took in a Raptors Basketball game, their home performances are as bad as Stoke's so felt at home. Would recommend a visit to anyone and take in a trip to Niagra Falls. Bet your lad loves it there.
