So why did you say the EU should be sensible and give us a good deal then if you want a hard Brexit? Face it, you've not got a clue have you. Its a good job fyd is happy enough to give you a supportive reach around at times like this. What I'm saying is I'm happy with hard Brexit if they want to risk chaos just to teach us a lesson Why are you so happy to say it's us that is causing instability when it's the eu with their poker face of "we'll teach those little Englanders" They'll drop the bullshit eventually as it'll hurt them more than us. People like you want to grow some bollocks......and hair while you're at it Why do they need us more than we need them?

Just as in the Netherlands, the candidate of the "silent majority" is emphatically silenced. That's just not true at all. Neither Holland or France had a candidate that represented the 'silent majority', what they had was a candidate who represented the far-right... And the fact that a fair number of the 'silent majority' have ended up voting for a far-right candidate *should* be getting the left to wake the fuck up & realise that people aren't happy with what is happening to their countries... But as evidenced right here on this thread, it's already being claimed as some kind of victory instead. Are people claiming that Macron has had "some kind of victory"? What utter bastards - how dare they celebrate a fairly comprehensive victory as "some kind of victory". Everyone knows the real winner is the 35% that voted for Le Pen. After the resounding victory for Wilders, it really is a good time to be a supporter of these types of parties. I wonder what Le Pen will do now she has control of France?

Yeah 65-35 some kind of victory. Not as emphatic as 52-48 is it. What we need is crapslinger on here telling all those le Pen supporters to suck it up they lost bla bla bla

Le Pen has softened the image of the party somewhat, the party itself consists of politicians with an outlook more in keeping to that of her father. Left/Right is a very poor measure of a party's stance in this day and age, in my opinion. I think that you are both correct, as is DC above. If a day is a long time in politics, the next five years should be interesting. It is hard to change an image, if a party emerges / or Front Nationale's image becomes softer, then an anti eu party, coupled with concerns about immigration, against the backdrop of whatever actually transpires in France, might be successful in the future. Lin many wzys I think the French are more polarised and less tolerant than us in respect of race...no room for concerns about immigration without being labelled a racist. In the UK at least people such as Field, Stuart, Corbyn ( at one time) , Galloway and Benn could be Eurosceptic, but not labelled racist. I don't think the French really had anywhere to go. Safety first.Their confidence as a nation has gone, they have been content to " know their place" as deputy head and first lieutenant to the Germans. Interesting times. Rejecting Le Pen is a sign of a confident nation, or at the very least one that will not be duped by bullshit populism. Whether Macron will be a success or not, I don't know. But he is a damn sight better than the poisoned witch that is Le Pen.

Yeah, populism peaked with Brexit and Trump and shows the immaturity of the electorates of those countries compared to Europe.
You can't blame them to some extent. If you're drip fed bullshit about the EU by the rightwing press for 20 plus years and successive governments pander to it for political expediency, this shit is where you end up.
They're not so daft on the continent.

It'll take a few more election defeats to convince that the world has come to its senses. I hope you're correct about Trump and Brexit being the peak though.

LePen carries the stigma for many legacy policies she’s either softened on, or never espoused ..but no doubt the EU (in the short term) has a stay of execution, with one of their own at the helm.
This right/left stuff has all become a bit irritating when all many people want is fucking common sense politics (populism) and whilst she may have lost this vote, will provide France (unlike the UK) with a robust challenge to Macron going forward.
Whatever, the French have essentially chosen more of the same – but let’s be clear, Macron kisses Merkels feet and is elected without any formal experience or MP’s in government. I’d say he’s more senior EU management.
The reasons that drove a significant surge of anti-establishment/EU support to get LePen to the final need to be addressed though and in this respect, it will be interesting seeing if Macron can spin(LePen inspired) reformist rhetoric, smelling a bit fraulein.
How he deals with the migrant crisis, terrorism, borders, unemployment etc....can/will France take its own path or will they concede to complete Brussels (German) control?
Interesting times gentlemen!!

And his now 64 year old wife groomed him when he was 15

What a strange post, i've no idea whst you are on about, ************** RWB was proclaiming the maturity of the French compared to the British in voting for brexit. I was just pointing out that 35% of the French have just voted for an actual fascist, something that will NEVER happen in the UK. So have you misunderstood or are you upset at me writing off the chances of a fascist getting 35% of the vote in the UK.......
