The manager will have no involvement in contract negotiations other than perhaps advising the CEO and owner how badly he wants to retain a player. Therefore, I fail to see how this can have any impact on whether he has lost the dressing room or not.

Thanks admin. The deletion of that name calling episode has made my post above look totally random and non-sensical. Mind you I suppose no-one really noticed any difference

The way i see it mate, if arnie goes in and says "I want 80 grand a week" then 6 months later shaqiri goes in and says "well he's on 80 I want 85 a week" then before you know it your completely out control and you get players doing what Carlos tevez did at Man City. I know comparing stoke to tevez seems daft but the logics there. Where do you stop in wage demands? It just becomes a downward spiral to eventually the players control what goes on at a club and that's not what I would want personally and it's not what stoke have always been..

I agree that is what happens and is why we kept a lid on our wages for so long but when you start recruiting these highly paid mercenaries it comes with the territory I'm afraid. The point I was making though mate was that this has nothing to do with Hughes. To a larger or lesser degree happens in every dressing room in the country and doesn't split all those dressing rooms.

I think it's as you say and hard to manage. After the Leicester game, Glenn Johnson caught the same train as me back to London, the 17.50 from Stoke so he didn't hang around for much post-match analysis or bonding. I also heard that our main asset in attracting players is Manchester Airport as it allows players to get back home to Europe for the weekend. Hard to imagine how you build real loyalty and spirit when you have such a disconnected workforce

I think a lot of players lack any of the above. That's what really frustrates me id give anything to walk out on that pitch with a stoke top on and to score infront the boothen would be something else but like what was said earlier that comes with the terroitory of signing fancy players. Oh how I miss the older days..
