So Hughes has taken an educated gamble as well as the club in bringing in Odemwinge for Jones. I can't believe the posts I'm reading on this site from so called Stoke fans. What a welcome for any player when he really does need welcoming and given our encouragement. I though the gamble is pretty obvious. Jones was deadwood in the squad and offered us only a duplication of what we have in Crouch. Odemwinge has pace and has had a previously good scoring record. Who would I prefer to have until the end of this season? There is only one answer. We now have more options up front. It makes us better! I would still hope that we will sign another good striker before the window closes because I think we will have received a small amount of money too with this deal. Odemwinge will be busting a gut to get into the Nigeria team. Jones offered us little. Do you lot think it's not going to be difficult enough this season? The last thing we need in this difficult time is its fan base and the club being torn apart with all these stupid comments.

It only alludes to desperation, & proves our transfer policy is an absolute shambles.

Jones was of no use to us at all. Odemwinge might be No transfer fee and affordable wages
A no brainer really.

Why keep hold of Jones on £40k a week when he clearly wanted out? Looks like good business for me? Who would you prefer on the bench when we need a goal? PO or a half arsed KJ, who might text the manager hours before kick off saying he can't be arsed to turn up today after pocketing another £40k?

Simple sell Jones to Cardiff and leave it at that. Maybe Cardiff didn't want to buy him out right? They have enough strikers on the books, Why not take a chance on PO? We don't bring PO in we have two strikers at the club, one completely untested at PL, huge gamble not to bring another one in now incase we don't get another one in don't your think?

Can't see a problem with this considering the shit contracts we used to give out under Pulis

Now we're lumbered with more potential deadwood for another 12 or 24 months on top of that depending what contract he signs. It's short termism at its finest.

In the overall shape of the transfer the 18 month contract matters little. Just imagine if he comes in and scores a dozen goals. All the whining would look even more stupid than it already does. We are in better shape with this deal and also are Cardiff. Good gamble by both clubs!

Give me a gamble on PO short term and him scoring goals in the PL that waiting and waiting and waiting for someone else to sign. I don't get it....... Good business by the club and a player who has PROVEN goal scoring record at this level

You may have a point, but it's also a possibility that Odemwingie puts in his best efforts to get to Brazil, which could then give him some value in the summer. Especially if he makes the squad, and we hold a 12 month contract. Kenny would have warmed the bench, sulked and fucked off for free in summer. No asset. Calculating risks. Looks a good move to me and in the long run may help to recoup some more of the Kenny capital. Makes sense football wise too.

AND, with jettisoning Pennant, we must surely have another signing lined up. After all JP was in the 25 man squad, and with his wages saved, maybe we will now get the forward we are so crying out for.
For me its been a good day all round.

Because it's a massive "if". He's an aging player, who was totally useless at his last club. And he relies pace, how many 32/33 year old footballer keep their pace?
Lets not beat about the bush here, it's a massive gamble and one Cardiff on the face of it get the better of.

Simple sell Jones to Cardiff and leave it at that. I think we would have sold Jones but no one wanted him on his wages and for what he can offer a premiership club. When Solskar went to Cardiff I thought they would be playing some silky skilful system not buying /swapping for a player who is really only able to score goals if he gets the right cross and so long as no one is around him to challenge him

The anger is less about PO personally and more about how the deal totally flies in the face of the "new direction". We are not spending money, we sacked a manager and bought in a new one that we are not backing, we've been after a "top 10" striker since June and show no signs of actually signing one.
It's unfortunate for Odemwingie as I guess the reaction would be different if we'd signed a "top 10" striker and THEN bought him in, but at this point it's hard to see us getting the players we've been linked with.
How much TV money was it that we got at the end of last season? You know, the season where we had to put up with attritional shit because staying up was vital to allow the club to move forward due to the TV money. The purse strings appear to have been padlocked never mind tightened

Buying virtually any player is a gamble, swapping one for someone who wasn't interested in us and was on high wages isn't. If it wasn't for his QPR drive a while back people would be saying its a an ok deal

But as you say he leaves for nothing in 6 months Swap deal for a player that will score goals and looked interested is a good move by the club What's the point in keeping KJ for 6 months then leaves for nothing picking his £40k up by doing SFA Can't you see any positives at all???? It doesn't have to be all doom and gloom you know.............
