hi, andy! are you asking about night 14.09 or day before the game? tell me what are you interested in? my advice - some sightseeing at daytime (central part of the city) + dinner-break at some nice Ukrainian pub or little restaurant, than some football and than... back to the pub?!

Let's just say that over the years (quite a few actually ) results have not gone their way against us. It's only a matter of time before that changes I'm sure but even some of their fans are now resigned to it! They are nearish neighbours aswell so I guess that makes it worse for them!

Stokies...if you want to travel on overnight train anywhere,i fully recommend you either get somebody to buy from the station in kiev for you,or take the risk to get tickets yourself. For example,my 600km trips to Lviv...many websites will be happy quote you £200. Actual cost from station about £20! Nowt better than a 10 hour overnight train in the middle of winter on a big ass carriage!! Travel is ridiculously cheap. Anywhere on the metro cost 2 uan (14p!) bus between 1.75 and 2.5 uan

rob: thanx a lot! andy: katie wrote great route for you! i just add that you may also like to visit Andriyivskyi Uzviz (Andrews Descent) - very interesting old street just near the Mikhailovski square - that s how Kyiv streets looked like 100 or even 150 years ago. But be ready for some good walking!

about pubs: we have lots of English-type pubs in Kyiv & you sure may visit them for some beer, but my advice - at least once try something unusual for you, something Ukrainian. Drink local beer, try local food (Ukrainian borsch & vareniki - the must), visit some authentic place (from some local fast-food to expensive restaurant - depends on your budget).

Thanks for all the help and information etc. Could you suggest a good area perhaps in the centre of the city where perhaps it would be a good place for groups to gather, perhaps where there are a few good places to drink and eat? That would be a good place perhaps for us to meet and have a beer and something to eat?

I looked up a few on the maps and it seems they are all within easy distance of the centre etc, but its hard to tell from a map. Also i plan to get a good guide book before I go out, are there any you found particularly useful or could recommend? (sorry for the barrage of questions, getting really into the trip at the moment.)

Also i plan to get a good guide book before I go out, are there any you found particularly useful or could recommend? (sorry for the barrage of questions, getting really into the trip at the moment.) No probs, you're right to be getting in to it and I'm happy to help (as you might be able to tell...I'm quite passionate about Ukraine and Kiev, so more than happy to spread the word!) I wouldnt know about any particular guides, with living and working there for extended periods each year, I just get to know the city really with friends and colleagues. They're all pretty centralish, at most maybe a few stops on the Metro here and there if needed. My recommends for a couple of restaurants... For an Italian, the Olivia. It is on 'Комінтерну вул.' which is pretty much a straight walk up from the train station. Very tasty food, reasonable price. The 'Царське село' is a traditional ukrainian on 'Ivana Mazepy'. Beautiful little place, folk singing, greatly recommend that you take a walk to this place, via a few of the tourist destinations. My first walk I was taken from started at Independence Square and a trek all the way through to here. I did have the advantage of a local person taking me! Website for info is www.tsarske.kiev.ua/en/about/shortly. This place is just a short trip for me from my apartment I have over there. If you really want to treat yourself, then find your way to the new (opened about 3 months ago or so) 'BEEF мясо & вино' (Meat and Wine) restaurant at 'Shota Rustaveli 11'. Be prepared to pay top hrivna for the food, but OMG it is worth it. Outside the windows you'll see a Ferrari dealership, and this restaurant is in the same class food wise. I had a Caesar salad, which was a big dish, plenty of food, very well presented and the food (almost) literally made my giney tingle!! Salads in general are so freshly made anyway, but it was just exquisite. If you dont mind paying for top quality food, then DEFINITELY try this place, then come back on here afterwards and tell me how right I am! Website www.beef.kiev.ua Sushi...a more expensive option is situated very close to the above restaurant. Stand at the corner of the crossroad so that the Beef Retaurant is across to your left, Ferrari dealership in front of you, and the Sushi place 'Ikra Oyster Club' is just up the road (Pan’kivska 11) to your right (not the place directly across road from the Beef restaurant...dont get confused!) For a couple of cheaper places, you could head to the complex at the corner of Kudryashova Street and Uritskoho Street which is a Delilah away from the train station (the end with a chapel outside of it). In here there's a ground floor cafe with a pool table, couple of snooker tables, and a cinema too if you fancy taking in a film (dubbed over in Ukrainian of course Or, head over to the trade centre close to the Minska (Мінська) metro station. There's either three of 4 floors, loads of shops to pick up a few bargains, find the tea shop there and bring a selection back, and on the top floor you'll see a big seated area with a load of places to eat around, and also a few other places dotted around. This is good place especially if you're taking your kids.

Hello again, guys, and GREAT thanx to Katie whose words about Kyiv are so pleasant! Yes, almost all the places - mentioned by Katie - are within a short distance! The main street of Kyiv is Khreschatik (distance about 1,2 km). Khreschatik Str. begins from the Independence square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti) and ends near the famous Bessarabskiy market (there you may buy sthg original like Ukrainian national dish "salo" - salted pigs fat - very tasty and i think unusual for you:)) BTW Independence square is about 5 minutes walking from Dynamo stadium. Sofiyska square and Mikhaylivska square are just 5-7 minutes walk from Khreschatik Str. Notice that Kyiv is the city on the hills - so be ready for some up-and-down walking possible places to meet before the game (to eat and to drink some beer): if your budget is LOW - my advice "2 ГУСЯ" (2 gooses) at Khreschatik Str. 7/11 (http://dvagusya.ua). Average check (meat, potatoes, vegetables, 2 beers + coffee or tea with dessert) about 6-7 euros. if you like sushi - my advice "СУШИЯ" (Sushiya) at Gorodetskoho Str. 2 or Grushevskoho Str. 4 (this one is just in front of Dynamo stadium!). Very tasty food! Average check (soup, sushi + 2-3 beers + dessert) about 15 euros (www.sushiya.ua). if you like to feel local culture & cuisine - my advice "ЧЕРВОНА КАЛИНА" (Chervona kalina - that means Red guelder rose) at Generala Vatutina Ave. in the People s friendship park. This one can be reached by taxi but it s really nice place! A restaurant at the bank of Dnipro river with green territory and small hotel-complex! I like this place! (http://www.chervonakalina.com.ua/en/)

Sheva is 34, but he is still one of the best in Dynamo. I think he should play now for about 60-70 minutes... And it s not easy for the defenders to play vs him! Anyway I wish he played at home-Euro-2012 in a national team! He deserved it!

hi! not much really!! but i like talking to Stoke supporters! really nice! & i am almost ready to support Stoke in English Premier League! haha... well, here is our game against arsenal last season (top) and fans (middle) who are alot different to yours and other European teams, no flares or banners... just straight from the heart singing (this is at an away match so you know what to expect when we come to kyiv ) and our stadium, the britannia (bottom) we usually fill it on most premier league games. the away end is to the right of the picture. it is usually split in 2 with netting and stewards (this moves depending on how many supporters the away side brings, the stoke fans fill the rest) natterfootball.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/britannia-stadium-21.jpgif you have any questions on anything i will be pleased to help

(our manager likes his tough, strong players. there is lots of tough but fair tackling in our matches which european teams dont like) we have had lots of injuries though and our squad is very small. we have 2 great english wingers, matthew etherington and jermaine pennant. these are very fast and skillful and cause defenders problems. they have both been involved with the english national team in the past. jon walters is our only regular english striker. he works harder than you will have ever seen a player work. he is also surprisingly skillful and strong.

Volvic,
the airport is 20 minutes (by car) from the city & the stadium is in the central part. So, i d recommend you some hotel in the centre because it would be cheaper to take a taxi twice (from airport & to airport).
tell me what price is ok for you for a hotel? and should it be a hotel or a flat?

stokie great amount for away games! you see, our away attendence also depends on the distances and money. + Ukraine is large and our closest away is Poltava (about 450 km). but you (England) have this culture of supporting your team on the away matches! that s what i like! here in Ukraine less people even think about following their teams on the aways. but we try to change it!
