Pulis was great, but his massive undoing was getting rid of Fuller and not replacing him. Fuller made Pulis ,for so long, seem a much more exciting manager than he actually was. The last Pulis season was horrible, I considered death via the canal when we played West Ham at home

Bolton, 5-0 was mostly a great memory. However, I had a great row 1 ticket on the upper tier, when I got there their was a young bloke sitting in my seat...I initially agreed and got sent where his seat was,,,then I thought...I'm not having this, I confronted him and he threatened to beat my 51 year old brains out...nice..... then the game started and the rest is history, but I felt horrible for the first 15 minutes

'Totally unfair re Diouf
He was stuck on the left wing against the Baggies but still managed to score twice
He has rarely been utilised in the most effective manner and was massively isolated today without any decent service
TOP strikers cost tens of millions and we don't have that to spend - we need to make sure this lad feels wanted at Stoke as he is a confidence player - writing him off already is totally unfair'
Top comment
I think he looked good v Man U, and kept them on their toes. I think he was poor today, very poor, but in the Prem he is good in my opinion, some positions and formations suit him more than others.

Indeed Yes man
I wonder ,also, how well we might have done if we hadn't been plagued by key injuries all season, Odemwingie being a major loss
The fact that we no longer seem to sell our key assets like we used to is very encouraging, especially Shawcross and Bego who have been an absolute rock for the club

In my 12 years of logging on to this site, this has got to be one of the most extraordinary threads ever, as in replies to what I would class as a joke, tbh, a bit of a crap joke which I don't quite get because I am a thick person, if he said it in public, he might just have got a soggy banana and a rotted veg bag thrown at him. Why does this evolve to an issue?, its really pathetic, there are far more serious things happening in life, my year has been poor with my dad being sick, but if someone made a joke about the illnesses he had endured, I would just simply brush it aside, because life happens This sanctimonious attitude is really annoying, and so Pretty Little Boother...imo u have done nothing wrong, so I wish u a happy new year, and happy new year to the rest of you

Definitely a golden age. As a club, I can't see how it can get much better for us, we are not realistically never going to be in the top 4, maybe with a few more years in this league we might sneak into sixth, but very unlikely. But wow!!, how good is this period, like the original poster said, it might not always feels like it, but its great, it really is. Stoke have never won much anyway, I would say our golden years have been the mid-late thirties, maybe the two years following WW2, the 70's and this period. Its great being talked about again, Wenger not emerging from the dug out, Delaps legendary throws and signing international stars we never would have dreamt.

'A committed Stoke fan cannot be a fair judge of a referees performance in a game involving his side because he/she is not impartial.
Any referee wants to officiate at the highest level, therefore it's pretty obvious they all seek to perform to a high standard.
The fact that some referees may favour home sides as always been a problem, if you have 40,000 fans screaming for a decision the referee is almost certainly going to be influenced, that's why crowds do it.
The majority of games I watch show the vast majority of officials to be good, if you want perfection then you need video technology but that's another story.'
I think you are playing devils advocate here a bit Geoff, I'm not 100% sure you believe what you are typing
Sure, I kind see some of the points you are making, but for example, the cup game v Southampton, the ref seemed to me extremely biased and seemed to have a pre-match agenda

naa pwingy9, you got me all wrong
it wasn't meant to be one of those type threads, just merely an observation that scrolling through 36 pages of spurs fans talk that not once was our play mentioned, and I was surprised by that by how well we played

I often go on the oppositions forums and see what they have to say about us
You mostly get praise from a few supporters if we have deserved to win, that's all my point is
and I think we did deserve to win, we were very good

I am not Jon Walters biggest fan....I hated the last Pulis season where crouch and walters were upfront. it was dire
However....I could not believe the quality from him v West Ham...hes a fantastic player, his dummies and ability to hold the ball was superb

Should be torn a new arsehole - the entire fucking lot of them
who told em they were fucking Barcelona ?
so annoying to see a team so sloppy, so casual, so fucking arrogant as to throw two easy points away like that
yes, it is human endeavour yes, they are humans yes, they can have off days
this is becoming the norm however
another weekend ruined !
quote of the day
'Fuck me there's some bloody knicker wetting girls on here. We played well, didn't take our chances and got punished, that's what happens at this level. We will get there, we just need to take our chances. We will be ok. Don't let frustration turn into overreaction. Tony you are swiftly becoming pathetic.
UK, why are you so melodramatic in everything u post We played very well today, and in all honesty we were very unlucky, crouches miss when we were 1-0 up was pure bad luck
and we created so much more, this was always one of those games that was going to be testing, and yes we should have won, maybe say 1-4, but it didn't happen, its football, u are as old as me and u should know better

Midlands sides on the up and I wonder whether we will get the 7 or 8 teams from the midlands in a few seasons (like we got in the 70's and 80's). Think it went down to 2 with us and Villa about four seasons ago

This is a good comment as well
Stoke were absolutely brilliant today and I've got no complaints. They defended as a team and attacked as a team and played as if they were high on crack from minute one to minute 94.
They came with a game plan and executed it perfectly so credit where credit’s due to Hughes. The bloke I was sat next to kept making mindless comments like 'Oh come on City, its Stoke FFS’ as if we had a god given right for them to just bend over whilst we stiffed them up the crease which just sounded Raggish to me. At one point I asked him what he'd do differently if he were Pellegrini but all he could keep saying was its Stoke FFS. During one of our attacks I counted 9 Stoke players in their area and when they broke from our attack I counted 6 of their players in or around our area. This wasn't a team who just turned up to fulfill the fixture, they came for a result and got it make no mistake about that.
What was strange for me was for the first time this season we looked fit and ready to start the season proper, but we ran into a Stoke team possessed. I spoke to a Rag earlier who was expecting me to make excuses like he was about Burnley saying Stoke only came to defend. I told him straight, Stoke looked us in the eye and took us on and thoroughly deserved their win and I don't think we had an off day either. When we raised the tempo, they matched us and although we were generally better in possession, when they had the ball it was evident that the days of Pulis's Stoke had been consigned to history because Stoke attacked us in an controlled fashion and with pace as if they knew what they were doing.
There wasn't one of our players who played that didn't deserve to be on the pitch and which ever team won today would have deserved it imo. Perhap Hart could have done better for the goal and Kolorov got left dead for pace wben trying to catch Diouf, but Diouf has been tearing it up in Germany recently with a 1 in 2 goal average and is no slouch either. IIRC Ferndinho had already been booked and was the last man, so he couldn't touch Diouf or we'd have been down to 10 men.
The only thing I would have done differently today is I'd have probably brought on Navas earlier because the middle was so congested we needed the ability to change tactics in game. We were also too slow on the break. Time after time I noticed that we seemed to lack the blistering pace to get beyond them on the break and we kept holding up our own play waiting for players to join in which gave Stoke the opportunity to get back into position.
On the left they kept doubling up on Kolorov to ensure he rarely got near the by-line so he had to keep slinging in crosses from long range which was never gonna help with those column like defenders Stoke had. Perhaps an out and out left winger would have been advantageous to us today, who knows, all I say is we played well and were beaten fair and square. We just need to wipe our mouths and move on to the next match and start preparing for other teams using this Stoke template to combat us with.'

I liked this comment:
'I'll give Mark Hughes and this Stoke side some credit, well done, they were good foil for us today. Stifled us going forwards, dangerous on the counter. Also, fair play to the Stoke fans, decent variety of songs, they were also quite funny when they weren't being dicks.'
