Alternatively if you live near Stone try Euronics - guys know more about what they are talking about than Currys and are reasonably priced. People will all no doubt have their favourite brands - but for picture quality I've always found Sony excellent. However downside of the one I have is a lot of the tech has dropped off through age but I upgraded that with a firestick and its good to go for a few years yet. Also have a Samsung which is much more flexible techwise but does let you down a bit if watching in SD (though fine in HD and 4k). Do Stone Euronics sell all sorts of electrical stuff, Seym? If they do, I agree that their people are excellent & very helpful - I had a very tall Bosch fridge & matching freezer from them a few years ago, plus two Panasonic combined DVD/Video recorder/players a few years before that, and as a retailer they were first-class. If Stone Euronics is the place I'm thinking of, one of their TV/DVD recorder/player chaps used to work at the actual Panasonic shop in Piccadilly, Hanley (where we had also been customers) & he certainly knew his stuff. I think his name was James. He could've moved on again by now, though!

Jaws was truly one of the greatest films of all time. Fantastic acting from the 3 main actors and brilliantly made. 2 was pretty good and then it went downhill. There are only a handful of films i can watch time and again Jaws is one Agreed. Saw it at the ABC Cinebowl up 'Anley duck when it first came out. When Ben 'Oosit's head floated down in the sunken boat I screamed the place down and so did both of the two 6-ft rugby-playing chaps I was there with. I remember that we walked to the nearest pub afterwards like three nervous wrecks and that my knees were literally knocking for about an hour.

Time for an upgrade, full HD but which brand. Done a bit of homework and there's a Sony Bravia 40" that fits the bill but whichever one I end up with, Panasonic, Toshiba it'll be a punt on reliability. £350 - £400 is a rough place I want to be with cost. It'll be an online purchase. Any experiences, thoughts appreciated. There's only one word to ever bear in mind at times like this, Chuff: Panasonic. The end!

I must be very old fashioned I find "washing your dirty linen in public" very distasteful and the worst kind of betrayal. It certainly doesn’t suggest any class. If the reference to the second book not coming out in the Queen’s lifetime is accurate, is one to presume it will have a go at her in some way? If this does prove to be the case then what a nasty little twerp. I really did think he had more about him and whilst I would not doubt his courage during his military deployments, he does present as spineless outside of the military. If he’s got something to say come out and say it and let him be subject to proper questioning and scrutiny rather than the orchestrated circus show he hid behind with Oprah. Superb post, xchy - you got it in one! (Apart from omitting to mention that Harry is 'in the condition of two short planks'.)

The ticket price has been scrapped for August and it's now free. This is a fair and amusing Twitter thread on it: The same guy went back yesterday and apparently the gate staff didn't know it's now free to go up. Despite being free, it'd still only attracted less than 100 visitors. The bizarre thing is they've done it to attract people into the city post lockdown which I get, but for £2m you could basically subsidise travel on public transport and allow school kids and their families into venues that normally charge for free. They would then in turn spend money in nearby restaurants, cafes, visit other attractions etc. Just seems like a complete waste of time, money and effort......... £2M ??????? That literally makes me feel ill. Whose idea was this monstrosity? How long will it be staying? How big a job will it be to remove it? And at what cost? Another £2 M??? Then again........ if it stays and shrubs planted on it grow and develop leaves they'll get blown on to the paths round the base of it, then with the rain they'll get slippery and people will slip and slide on them, and will fall over on the concrete paths and injure themselves...... Woo! Com-pen-say-shun time!

Have only just noticed the latest few updates on this thread, re. the four books this pair of self-centred dopes will be inflicting on us releasing next. Apparently two will be by Harry, one will be a 'wellness' book by Meghan, and the theme of the fourth book is yet unkown. It seems that Harry's first book is due out next year, timed perfectly to clash with the Queen's Coronation Jubilee 70th Anniversary, whilst his second will 'not come out during the Queen's lifetime' - helluva phrase, that, eh? Talk about yet another slap in the face for Her Majesty from the deeply unpleasant pair of badly-done-to woe-is-me know-alls. Apparently Harry's already been working on the first book, with a very successful ghost writer, for some months - so Harry's books will carry his name but be written by the other chap and - you can bet - dictated by Megsy. Heigh-ho! At least they've got a Nanny lined up for their growing family - so thank goodness for that!

Wild fires are not uncommon in this part of the world at this time of year. Greece is forecasting temps in excess of 40 dec C this week. The countryside is bone dry. Once a fire starts it literally spreads like wildfire. It is quite impressive to see the fire services spring into action also using seaplanes and helicopters to scoop up and drop water on the flames. It can be a highly skilled and dangerous manoeuvre to discharge the heavy load whilst at the same time flying through the turbulence caused by the heat rising from below. Great post, Ray.

To me it’s when a pigeon closes it’s wings and lands on the loft from a 500 mile race I know nothing about pigeon racing but I’d love to get into it! HM The Queen keeps racing pigeons, Badge. Has done for YEARS. Not mucking about now - she really does! PS: Yeah, the pigeons keep winning, etc etc!

There are loads of different Calendulas, but this specific one looks exactly the same as those we used to have at home when I was little & you don't seem to ever see them for sale in packets.

Enjoying some deeeeelish oven-baked rhubarb - home grown! The only thing I can do besides herbs, and then only because it seems to thrive on neglect! It ain't 'alf sour, though - and I mean REALLY sour - - ie. unless you put a ton of sugar in it, eating it would be a very good form of torture.

Their call is a really loud, raucous squawk and is quite startling. The fields round the Taj Mahal are full of them - there must be hundreds, just in the wild, and they're a spectacular sight. As far as I know, Indian families will never have peacock feathers in their houses as they're considered unlucky.
You've got to admit, though, that a peacock's tail display is a breathtaking sight - maybe the most spectacular sight in the animal/bird kingdom?

I hear you. My main point was a pay rise for GP’s. But NHS workers are after a 15% pay rise for working harder than usual. Does that mean that should be the case for the rest of the country? It’d set a dangerous precedent. Everyone who has worked throughout this shit are in the same boat, whether you’re a nurse, a supermarket worker, a labourer or whatever. I say that as someone who has a Mrs who works at north staffs hospital on the front line and she thinks it’s opportunist and I’d agree. A 3% pay rise is far more than any other profession is receiving this year. Apart from anything else, THANK YOU, Mrs. Badge, and all your colleagues, for what you do. Whatever nurses ever get paid, it will never be enough.

I'm in several What's App groups with fellow parents and a thread came around last week on what to buy Head of Year for our child as an 'end of year Thank You' Suggested gifts -diamante necklace, annual subscription to home and antiques magazine, Fortnum and Mason Hamper delivered Suggested donation - £45 each We already gave Mrs Catchpole (HOY) a birthday present (Whats App group May 2021 - suggested donation £30 each - dont know what she got) Christmas Hamper (£20 each) and at the Spring Fete (entrance fee £20) Mrs Catchpole was signing up sponsors for her sponsored online evening research, at last count she had signatories for over £860 by the end of the day. Dreading end of term summer ball, thats next week, parents usually club together and get Catchpole and a couple of others a stretch limo to the Primary School and Bunch of flowers/Hamper (estimated suggested Whats App Donation £70) That’s fucking ridiculous. Talk about gobsmacked.... And horrified - this is mind-blowingly ludicrous. How did it get to these proportions? I can't believe - I mean I literally cannot believe - that ANY teacher would have the gall to accept expensive gifts. Something should be done 'officially' about this - ie. some ruling introduced whereby teachers are forbidden from accepting 'gifts' of any sort in the same way that police officers, doctors, etc., are forbidden.
