Shocking scenes in a beautiful part of the world, tourists having to cancel their holidays. Some people seem to think they were started on purpose by PKK (Kurdish separatists), unconfirmed though

Wild fires are not uncommon in this part of the world at this time of year.
Greece is forecasting temps in excess of 40 dec C this week. The countryside is bone dry. Once a fire starts it literally spreads like wildfire.
It is quite impressive to see the fire services spring into action also using seaplanes and helicopters to scoop up and drop water on the flames. It can be a highly skilled and dangerous manoeuvre to discharge the heavy load whilst at the same time flying through the turbulence caused by the heat rising from below.

The latest reports are that there are at least eight known deaths and thousands have had to flee their homes.
SE Europe is still experiencing a massive heatwave with temps in the mid to high 40s.
In excess of 90 thousand hectares destroyed. A serious blaze. It will take some time for the area to recover.⚓️
I fly fly out to Athens soon. Not looking foreword to the heat.

Yeah never thought how difficult that operation would be really. Interesting.

immensely proud that British fire fighters have with out hesitation volunteered to go out there and assist in this rapidly deteriorating situation.
Ironically with all this Brexit bullshit I hope they get the infernos under control before 90 days are up or they will have to leave.
This evenings forecast is for temps of 49:5deg C in Sicily!!
I fly to Athens on Fri !!!
