Gary Megson has admitted that Abdoulaye Meite could be allowed to leave Bolton on loan after refusing to come out for the second half against Manchester United.
The Ivory Coast international was replaced at half-time in the 2-0 defeat to Old Trafford but Megson has revealed that it was not because he was injured or because he had opted to make a tactical change.
Megson claims Meite just decided he did not want to continue, and the Bolton boss admits the behaviour was not well received by his team-mates.
Megson has other options in defence and had been prepared to loan Meite out to Ipswich, but he insists the player himself rejected the move.
There are a number of other Championship clubs, including Hull, interested in Meite and Megson is still ready to let him go out for the rest of the season.
Not happy
"He just decided he didn't want to play on against Manchester United in the second half," Megson told Sky Sports News.
"The players weren't happy with it, the squad wasn't happy with it.
"We've had the opportunity, Abdoulaye turned it down, to go to Ipswich on loan. I would have let him go.
"There's another couple of championship clubs he can go on to until the end of the season.
"It's not a case that we won't pick Abdoulaye Meite, it's a case of we've got people playing in that position and playing very well."
Could be a possibility especially with old Garry being Tony's Pal!

Why has it gone so quite all of the sudden on the transfer front? A week ago, not a day went by that TP didn’t acknowledge the need for a natural finisher. Now the silence is deafening!
FFS, it will be too late at this rate – there are only 8 or so games left?
Has anyone heard anything further?

I am 37 and have been a Stokie since 1987. My dad though who is computer illiterate (but gets passed info from here through me) was born in 1934 and went to his 1st Stoke game in 1939. He was one of Stan's biggest fans. Incidentally my grandmother dated SM before he met my grandfather. I am not sure whether to be jealous that I am not Stan's grandson or just be grateful I exist at all! Hmmmm.

No doubt about it for me - Barnsley (right on a hill like the Brit) about 10 or so years ago before they got their new covered away stand. It was not only us supporters who were freezing (my toes almost fell off) but the players were skating across the pitch like it was ice. We ended up getting hammered as the kit man did not bring the right studs for the frozen ground – we could not get any footing at all and they ran rings around us!

Did I just hear rightly on Sky Sports? Merson said that auto promo was between Watford, West Brizzle & Stoke. He then went on to say he thought it would be Stoke who would win through!

No such thing as fate. If we are the best team, we will go up - luck evens out over the year.

I pulled something out of TP’s statement that aggravated me – he is basically saying that by leaving it to the last minute, teams are pushing the prices up on him and that he will only sign players who are good value (getting his excuses ready).
The problem is this – it was TP’s strategy in the 1st place to wait until the end of the deadline to pick up bargains. Why the bloody hell do we always wait until it’s too late??????

From www.whydelilah.co.uk/news/Stoke-homing-in-on-s48110341.aspx15/01/2008 - Stoke homing in on shawcross signing Stoke City are homing in fast on the signing of defender Ryan Shawcross from Manchester United for more than £1m, it was confirmed today. And City will have beaten off competition from a handful of other clubs interested in snapping up the 20-year-old centre-half in the January transfer window. Stoke have been in talks with both United and Shawcross over the past three weeks to hammer out a long-term deal for the highly-rated youngster. And today, Stoke chief executive Tony Scholes revealed: "Ryan's performances have made him a player in high demand. Not surprisingly, therefore, we are in competition for a number of other clubs for his signing. "However, we are in an advanced stage of negotiations and remain hopeful we will be able to conclude a deal in the near future." Shawcross has missed just one game, through suspension, since joining City on loan from United at the start of the season - and provided the added bonus of seven goals. He recently said he was happy to remain at Stoke to fulfil his long-term ambition of playing in the top flight. His signature would tie up the centre of Stoke's defence long term following yesterday's revelation that Leon Cort has joined from Crystal Palace for a club record £1.2m.

(From the Sentinal) STOKE should eventually all but wipe clear what winger Peter Sweeney cost them from Millwall two-and-a-half years ago after selling him to Leeds for what is likely to be a total of £170,000.
Stoke will pocket an initial £120,000, plus a further £50,000 if he wins promotion during the course of his two-and-a-half year contract at Elland Road, while there is also a 17.5 per cent sell-on clause on any future profit from his sale.
Not exactly a nominal fee me thinks!!!! Good business!

STOKE CITY: I SHOULD NEVER HAVE LEFT, SAYS GRIFFIN Be the first reader to comment on this story
09:40 - 11 January 2008
ANDY Griffin completed his £300,000 move from Derby County to Stoke City today and then admitted: “I should never have left here last summer.”
Griffin has signed a four-and-a-half year contract with City and hopes to see out the rest of his career at the Britannia.
“Yes, I probably do regret not signing last summer,” said the 28-year-old defender.
“I don’t want people to think it was a rejection of Stoke City because at least 90 per cent of players would have done the same as me back then.
“I suppose you can get blinded by the lights of the Premiership and that’s why I chose Derby. I thought it was the last chance saloon.
"But when I was there, I kind of knew I had made the wrong decision. I realised it quite soon, but you live and die by your decisions.
“You don’t always realise how good a place is or how happy you are there until you are elsewhere.
“Now I am just happy to be back and it will feel good to be a part of the team again.
“It doesn’t really feel like I’ve been away because I’ve been down to watch five or six games and kept in touch with some of the lads.”
Now Griffin is planning one final crack at the Premier League with Stoke after joining the club that first launched his career more than a decade ago – and where he spent two spells on loan from Portsmouth last season.
“All credit to the manager, chairman and particularly the players for what they have done at Stoke this season,” added Griffin.
“The position they find themselves in by the middle of January is fantastic. If there’s ever a time Stoke City can push for the Premier League it’s going to be now ... and hopefully I can play a part and do what I can for the club.”
Griffin joined the rest of the Stoke players when they left for East Anglia this morning ahead of tomorrow’s tasty top-six Championship showdown at Ipswich Town, but is unlikely to start at Portman Road after nursing a calf injury for the past month.
“I got a bit of a calf problem four weeks ago so I’ve not really trained except in the gym. I will be down on my fitness, but that’s nothing hard work cannot put right.”
Griffin’s injury problems mean youngsters Andy Wilkinson and Carl Dickinson are likely to continue at full-back tomorrow after impressing against Newcastle United in the FA Cup last Sunday.

4PM UPDATE: I MAY STAY FOR GOOD SAYS SHAWCROSS 1 reader has commented on this story. Click here to read their views.
15:47 - 20 December 2007
Ryan Shawcross today hinted at a permanent move to Stoke City in the summer. The young defender has been given permission by Manchester United to remain on loan at Stoke until the end of the season.
However, he becomes a free agent in the summer - and made it clear there was every chance he could remain at Stoke long term if a deal could be done.
He said: "I'm not afraid to move on, and hopefully I could come to Stoke if it didn't work out for me at United. But we'll have to see in the future."
Shawcross believes both Derby and Wigan were interested in recruiting him during the January transfer window, but said Sir Alex Ferguson had favoured him remaining at Stoke.
He explained: "A few Premiership teams were in, but the gaffer said there was more chance of playing regularly here at Stoke.
"I think it was Derby and Wigan ... but I'd rather concentrate on getting Stoke into the Premier League instead.
"I'm very happy to stay for another six months and carry on what we've been doing.
"I've really enjoyed my time here and that's thanks to the players, the management team and the fans."

BREAKING NEWS: SHAWCROSS STAYS AT STOKE Be the first reader to comment on this story
10:36 - 20 December 2007
Ryan Shawcross is a Stoke player until the end of the season after Sir Alex Ferguson today gave his blessing for the young Manchester United to remain at the Britannia Stadium. And Stoke are trying to ensure the loan deal will extend to the end of May to include the play-offs.
"I can't tell you how delighted I am to have this news," said Stoke boss Tony Pulis today.
"Everyone has seen for themselves what a fantastic contribution big Ryan has made to our season so far.
"He has been one hell of a bonus because you never know for sure with a young and untried player what you are going to get, even though we were pretty sure about his potential.
"He has improved enormously since being here - and I'm certain he will carry on improving.
"I must say how grateful we are to Manchester United, and obviously Sir Alex in particular, for helping us out once again.
"Ryan has loved it here, not least because everyone has made him feel so welcome.
"Now we just hope he plays as well in the second half of the season as he has in the first."
Ferguson's decision is also a vote of confidence in both Stoke's present success and the club's ability to carry on improving Shawcross for the remainder of the season.
The 20-year-old centre-half, who has missed just one game through suspension this season, is out of contract in the summer when his long-term future must be decided by Ferguson.
