If confirmed (got to wait for the photo with the scarf etc.) then it is fantastic news!
One thing does puzzle me though, why have we heard this before confirmation about the Hill move to Palace and the Cort move to us? The Pugh deal was announced quick enough - is there a hitch with the Cort/Hill deals?

It will be interesting to see the size of the fees for Cort and Shawcross - even though the Cort fee will be offset by Hill going the other way. I suspect the fees will be similar yet, given their ages, you'd have to say Shawcross was worth more even though Cort has the experience.
I wonder if the Shawcross deal includes a waiving of any balance (up to a potential £2 million?) that may become due in respect of Foster?

I'd have thought the Foster deal would be kept separate but I'd expect a hefty % sell on attachment considering his actual potential, probably maybe even 20% to 25%

I notice that Bolton got a massive 50% sell on fee inserted when Norris left them for Plymouth. A similar figure for Shawcross wouldn't surprise me. It wouldn't worry me to be honest as it would lower any incentive to cash in on him in future.

I would say its a calculated gamble:
1. We go up, were quids in. 2. We stay down (or go up for that matter), young Ryan increases in value and were quids in when we sell him (subject to a sell on clause, old Alex hasn't totally lost his marbles just yet). 3. He turns out to be crap after all (very unlikely), we lose money.
Excellent signing, and the club should be congratulated in tying up the deal, happy days indeed. My money is on 1. or 2.

Shawcross is fantastic, to get a player of this quality so early in his career is a huge bonus for Stoke, he held his own against quality players on Sunday and has been a top performer all season.
IMO, well worth waiving any further money we might get for Foster (up to £2m) to get him to sign permanantly, only caveat, if we are waiving up to £2m, we need to get a LT contract (4 years min) just as we would do if we were to pay £2m cash for a player.
Fantastic news, just hope it isn't a red herring, this guy has scored 7 goals from centre back this season and has been Championship player of the month.
To be honest, I can't beleive he wants to give up a career at Man Utd so early, but if thats his choice, then I will be very happy

Forskin you really must get out about in a town and mix with other people,it will save you sitting there thinking up all these ludicrous ideas.

I got a text about this on sunday from a very reliable source but was waiting an announcement on official site.
Regardless of the various contractual clauses that will exist - The Shit will have a hefty sell on clause and Ryan will understandably have a big club release clause - this is fantastic news. The lad is "old school" and it's great to be signing an "up and coming" starlet rather than a journeyman or someone who's career needs rescusitating. If Cort could just get a bit nastier ( perhaps we could kidnap his kids? ) we'll have a back 4 with the potential to be compared with Vince, Crannie, Butler and Sandford and if local young lions Wilko and Dicko can improve technically perhaps even ignite distant memories of Smith/Bloor/Pejic and Marsh!!!!
FANTASTIC

Has any of this been confirmed?
Great news if true and a positive sign that we’re moving in the right direction. It’s been frustrating at times at how long it has take to recruit players (we’ve been crying out for a left sided midfielder for ages!!) but if it takes time to get the right players (i.e. Diao) then I think it’s worth the wait and Tone should be given full credit for not rushing into anything when the fans we’re crying out for new players.

Stoke City are in advanced negotiations with Ryan Shawcross and Manchester United over a substantial seven-figure move to the Britannia Stadium.
His signature would represent a major coup for Stoke as they arm themselves in the January transfer window for a genuine tilt at promotion to the Premier League.
The 20-year-old defender and his representative have been in talks with Stoke's hierarchy over severing his ties with United and settling long-term in the area.
Shawcross has already agreed to remain on loan with Stoke until the end of the season following a successful first five months in the Potteries.
But a permanent deal would provide a potentially critical shot-in-the-arm for manager Tony Pulis as he re-builds his young defence around the likes of Shawcross and fellow newcomer Leon Cort.
Shawcross arrived as a rookie at the start of the season after previously enjoying just two League Cup appearances in this country for Manchester United, while the second half of last season was spent on loan with Belgian outfit Royal Antwerp.
The giant centre-half, who is English qualified despite having played for Wales schools as a teenager, scored on his debut at Cardiff City on the first day of the season and has since netted a further six goals for Stoke.
But Pulis has been won over more by his mature temperament, aerial dominance and clean tackling during his 27 appearances to date.
Stoke have a major bargaining chip in their negotiations over the fee for Shawcross as they could write off the add-ons they are due in the future from United following the £1m move to Old Trafford by young goalkeeper Ben Foster in 2005.
The signing of Shawcross, together with the impending confirmation of Cort's £1m-plus transfer from Crystal Palace, would represent the most serious financial outlay in Stoke's history ... and a significant statement of intent from club chairman Peter Coates.
Shawcross would have been out of contract at Old Trafford in six months and his arrival at the Britannia Stadium will be the result of Stoke's concerted wooing of United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Derby were among those clubs taking a serious interest in Shawcross after the Rams' manager Paul Jewell watched him in action against Hull City at the Britannia Stadium on New Year's Day.
Stoke are also close to announcing Andy Griffin's return after striking an agreement with Derby for the full-back.

Brilliant... simply brilliant! As for him "giving up his potential career in the Prem" 1. We might get there ourselves 2. If he's good enough he'll get there anyway 3. He'll play regular football where he is worshipped and valued Good lad Ryan and GOOD LUCK A Stoke Legend in the making

I've heard this from two different people, both good sources, so I'm confident it will go through.
The stated prices were also both the same, but both estimates of £1.5m.
