Ryan Shawcross today hinted at a permanent move to Stoke City in the summer. The young defender has been given permission by Manchester United to remain on loan at Stoke until the end of the season.
However, he becomes a free agent in the summer - and made it clear there was every chance he could remain at Stoke long term if a deal could be done.
He said: "I'm not afraid to move on, and hopefully I could come to Stoke if it didn't work out for me at United. But we'll have to see in the future."
Shawcross believes both Derby and Wigan were interested in recruiting him during the January transfer window, but said Sir Alex Ferguson had favoured him remaining at Stoke.
He explained: "A few Premiership teams were in, but the gaffer said there was more chance of playing regularly here at Stoke.
"I think it was Derby and Wigan ... but I'd rather concentrate on getting Stoke into the Premier League instead.
"I'm very happy to stay for another six months and carry on what we've been doing.
"I've really enjoyed my time here and that's thanks to the players, the management team and the fans."

You can't complain about those comments and I'm pretty impressed Taggart thinks he's best staying at Stoke. He'd walk into Derby's defence I would think

I guess it all depends on how the season pans out which is fair enough...but if things do go right (and its about time that they did) I can see Ryan Shawcross as a future captain of Stoke City.
