Someone explain to me if the Saudis are bound by FIFA financial fair play? Clubs are ordered to not spend more than the income that they generate, and that they must balance their books over the course of three years. So either the cost of a match ticket is ridiculously expensive or somehow they are going to get their games broadcast I can't see any significant money coming in. Either way I can't see anyone wanting to watch the games l FFP doesn't apply to the Qataris and Saudis. £20 million sponsorship deal from one of the many companies they own. Sell a past it player to another club they own in another country for £75 million Etc FFP only applies to the likes of Stoke and Derby. It doesn't apply to the Qataris ( man city ) or the Saudis ( Newcastle United) Once they get past 30 , they can sell Mahrez , neymar etc to the middle east for mega money. Sorted.

A few years ago I turned down a job in Dubai 5x my salary here. I was going to take the job but after researching the country and its practices I could not take it. Pyramid scheme for Bargain Booze? Probably wise. I wish

According to talksport , neymar will only get £138 million a year at al hilal , substantially less than Christiano Ronaldo's £177 million a year. But on the plus side, there are a load of sweeteners thrown in Shirley for the sake of mankind and all that’s good in the world, that’s got to be absolute horse shit…????

Szczesny: I have no interest in Saudi football Wojciech Szczesny says he has no interest of quitting Juventus for Saudi Arabia, saying he has "other priorities than pursuing money".
The 33-year-old has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, but is set to stay in Turin for now.
“I have no shortage of money in my life. I prefer cool challenges, and defending the Juventus goal is the coolest challenge I can give myself,” he said.
“I don’t read much about football, but I know a few players have gone there [Saudi Arabia] and I’m not surprised.
“I understand that someone can make such a decision and it seems quite logical. I believe it is worth having other priorities than pursuing money.”
👏👏👏

The downside for him though... if he gets into "a bit of bother" in the local nightclub, he might have his head chopped off

I notice the BBC football website has started covering the Saudi football scores.
Why? No-one gives a fuck. It's as relevant as the Scottish Premier!

The second ever Saudi women's league starts in October. I wonder if they'll start signing some of the top female players for that. Given it's all about money, it'll be a lot cheaper to sign foreign female players, but I wonder if female players will be less likely to go to Saudi Arabia given its history on women's rights.

If our female players go and play over there it will be terrible for the women's game over here, the matches are hard enough to watch as it is. I hope they don't get turned by the Saudi money, but money is a big issue in women's football so they'd be daft not to go if there was serious money to be made. Henderson cared a lot about lgbt when the Premier league and FA wanted him to, he soon stopped caring once the Saudi pay day came.

UEFA could score the biggest Machiavellian goal in sporting history by refusing. There's feasible talk of UEFA & Conmebol breaking away from FIFA. The battle would be to get another federation onside. CAF will only ever back FIFA. In all fairness, the AFC doesn't carry too much influence. The real credibility clincher will be vital support from CONCACAF. To tell Saudi Arabia no, despite the undoubted billions on offer, would be a statement of intent. They won't be bought (unlike FIFA) and are prepared to make a stand. Obviously, big steps won't come until 2027. But there's a lot of discontented rumblings.

Not the MLS to be fair, has real roots and can't be compared to this in any way . Done great things bringing young American players through and limits the big stars in the league.

The MLS is a step above, I agree. I shouldn’t really have included it in the example. The Messi move won’t take it to the next level, only structural change of the league format will do that (in my opinion). However, it faces a very different challenge than Saudi and China and I shouldn’t have reduced it to their level.

Crowds are cellent, is a good watch and they need say a Beckham or Messi to put new arses on seats and raise the profile. I like the fact you have to have home grown players also

There’s a thread somewhere but I can’t find it. Just turned my “telly” on and for some reason it’s tuned in to DAZN sports, they are showing a Saudi league game. What a great game it is, end to end with some fantastic players on show. Full house making lots of noise. Is this a one of f cus I’m seeing tales of less than a thousand fans and terrible football all over the internet. I’m in no way supportive of this league by the way, just seems that there are contesting views about how well it’s going

Unfortunately the land of the 911 terrorists is the richest. They control the oil and so call the shots. The quicker we move away from oil the quicker the world won't be held to ransom by these murderous despots

The average attendance is around 8,500. That one attandance has been used to discredit the league. You could take some Carabao Cup attendances in this country and do the same
Just over 3k once turned up for a Prem game
