Could Liam be leaving too?

Has he left on his own accord or been pushed be interested to know. Might have something to do with his son's progress at the club, has he heard he is going back or maybe we are pushing for a perm deal and conflict of interest?
Top bloke though and wish some of the current team showed the same commitment as he did when he took to the field - good luck going forward Rory

If the club wants to send Liam back they don't have to move Rory on as well and its only a conflict of interest if Rory is pushing to sign Liam on a perm, not the club. Occam's razor - the simplest answer is usually correct. Results are poor and Neil wants to shake things up to get out of the rut and Rory' been around longer than most. All the best Rory but something needed to change and maybe some new ideas wouldn't come amiss.

I'm not sure how these things work. Or perhaps our new 'Director of Football', whose name no on can remember, just called him in to a room and summarily fired him. Or the 2 of them cooked his goose together. Who knows...

We got to the PNE game early, so we watched the players warm up. We counted 8 coaches or staff on the pitch. Apart from the assistant manager(can't think of his name) and the keeper coach the others were stood around in a group laughing and joking. It just looked all too comfortable. I couldn't help but think that the bosses messages and instructions must get lost or diluted when it gets to the players.

I have long been advocating a shake up in the coaching staff, it does all look cosy cosy at times and although I am sure Rory is a lovely man, we need to be a little bit more ruthless both on and off the field, yes still maintain the family feel within the club, with a little more grit and fight.

How on earth do people know whether he's a good coach or not? Only what we’ve seen on the pitch. What was his job exactly? What area was he coaching?

Good luck Rory! Good times and bad times, you've been here. Hope you get another job soon (hopefully not in the Championship...)!

I wish Rory the best !!!
If Rory and the doctor end up being the total of the shake up, then it is window dressing at best.

I don't want to fall into a lazy cliche but I can't fathom why we never had him coaching someone to do a long throw. It's something we have never used since Pulis left and, love it or hate it, is a potent weapon. We had the world's best on the coaching staff and have never used one in all the time he's been here.

Which coaches has Alex Neil used at previous clubs, was Mark Proctor one I seem to remember?.

Yup if you can’t make better use of Souttar’s aerial dominance from corners and free kicks your set piece routines aren’t very good.

I see no need to have Ricky Martin & Andy Cousins within the structure, Cousins was very much MON's man wasn't he?.

None really but it's hard to say we've been well coached during the last few years. Delap would have played a part in that. Alex Neil wants his own people around him. It's to be expected. Good luck to him. Pugs. “Alex Neil wants his own people around him. It's to be expected”. Fully understand. But some of the “opinions” on here are totally unbalanced, show a lack of class and demonstrate the worst of the Oatcake. Will Goodwin tweets thanks to SCFC and the staff for improving him both on and off the field. Is that down to tea lady or the coaching and fitness staff? Agree. No idea about Goodwin.

If we're having a DoF or technical director why isn't it someone with some proper football pedigree and clout? The fact you've got managers choosing that type of appointment is absurd.

In his youth Rory was very good at the javelin - he'd got that ability through very specific training from a young age. You can't train up a footballer to that standard - he just had an ability other footballers don't have. If we had a javelin thrower in our ranks it might have been worth giving them some coaching - otherwise it just wouldn't have been worth the effort.

I don't know the ins and outs so I'll just say thanks for the memories, Rory, and good luck in the future. As far as I'm concerned you'll always be a legend and part of the team that everybody was behind during some truly great times. And I think there can't be a single supporters who was not fond of you both as a player and a person while you were here. You'll always have a great welcome whenever you visit us.

Really hoped he would live up to his legendary status but hasn't come through in terms of on pitch performance - not one comparably decent long throw! 😁
Not sure why it's not worked out but good luck on your travels

Can't believe they were all budding javelin throwers at some point.

Maybe that’s why people are being critical of his coaching abilities then! I get he’s a hero at the club for giving us great memories but let’s face facts, we’re awful at set pieces.

I know nothing of the ins and outs but smacks of being the fall guy for ANs bad start. Not impressed at all with this. Why? Rory came with Rowett. Given how dire our time in the Championship has been, I’m surprised he’d been here for so long. Fair play to Neil for giving him the chance to prove his worth but he’s not done much to impress apparently …

Sorry to see such a stalwart and club legend leave. However, we can't say that coaching (by all) has produced improved performances, so changes are logical (including players).
Regardless, thanks for your absolute loyalty and contribution over the years. A true legend for us all. Best wishes and success in the future Rory.

A manager needs his own staff. Not exactly firing in the league are we so makes perfect sense for the manager to get it exactly how he wants.
Not really too much more too it is there?

Hopefully he took it in stride. Presuming that he must have because I haven't heard of Rory being seen with AN's head held high preparing to throw it onto Stanley Matthews Way?
