There’s also no evidence why he should go None really but it's hard to say we've been well coached during the last few years. Delap would have played a part in that. Alex Neil wants his own people around him. It's to be expected. Good luck to him. Pugs. “Alex Neil wants his own people around him. It's to be expected”. Fully understand. But some of the “opinions” on here are totally unbalanced, show a lack of class and demonstrate the worst of the Oatcake. Will Goodwin tweets thanks to SCFC and the staff for improving him both on and off the field. Is that down to tea lady or the coaching and fitness staff?

Wonder if he'll team up with Dean Holden again? Good luck Rory I'll never forget the impact you had on the premier league when we won promotion. Gouranga.

Coaches are only as good as the manager, if the game set up is crap it doesn't matter much how you've been coached.

Given the fact Neil explicitly stated in August:
“What you’ll find is that if you operate at Championship level you’ve got a skillset that’s capable and it’s very seldom you go into a club and you’ve got guys in key roles who can’t do it. All they need is a bit of guidance and understanding about what I want. My job is to bring clarity to what they are doing for me and get them to do it as well as they possibly can.
“One thing that’s been really important at every club I’ve been at and I think is vital is that there are some people who are Stoke through and through and those type of people can get undervalued sometimes. People who are Stoke through and through need to be at the centre of the club and that’s something I’ll look to maintain as long as they’re giving everything I expect every day. “
One can only presume given he’s sacked Rouse, Delap, the club doctor and other “support staff” that he’s thoroughly unhappy with the setup after initially being very bullish about it.
This is sort of backed up by his “under the bonnet” comment last week and what appears to be the dawning realisation this is going to be not as easy as he thought. You cannot get more “Stoke through and through” than Rory Delap and he’s been let go. So that surely tells us something about how the manager views him.
Martin’s comment about “continued evolution of footballing operations” is fascinating for me being as though that’s essentially what we’ve been doing now for 5 years. Once again, changes driven by the manager and his mate, let us hope it produced better results than those strategies have previously.
Hope that is enough evidence to allow me to post in here…😅
Away from that, best wishes to Rory Delap, a true Stoke City hero.

Shame but hopefully no hard feelings and I don’t think he can feel hard done by tbh. Hopefully gets a job somewhere else soon. He might give Dean a call.

I don’t think I’ve said a good word about Neil since he’s arrived but happy he’s made this decision and the under the bonnet interview I found quite believable.

Coaches are only as good as the manager, if the game set up is crap it doesn't matter much how you've been coached. i'm not sure the problem is the management or the coaching, just that since the end if the Hughes era our signings have been rubbish, and if your talent leaves/retires, and you keep filling their spots with worse players, the club's performance will follow. just look at our defence since Ryan retired.

Me and my Old Man got into the ground quite early for the Preston game and saw some most of the pre-match warm up (we are normally in the pub to be fair! 😂) We both said that Rory looked like a little bit of a spare part. It was O'Shea and Canning (I think) who did all of the coaching. It is evident that AN has not given Rory a great deal of responsibility. Maybe this is part of the shake up that we need? Although it will also be sad to see a club legend leave (in any capacity). Sorry but O’Shea needs to be next, he’s not improved the defence one bit since he arrived.

Feels a sad day, last link to the time the club had some character. I have no idea what goes on there but characters like Rory are what our success was built on. I'd take him before those left TBH, time as ever will tell if this is a good decision.

Don’t have the audio but was part of his Hartlepool pre match presser where he described the current situation as painful. www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/stoke-city-live-alex-neil-8002965.ampHe later compares us to a nice looking car but when you open the bonnet you see lots that needs fixing.

Regardless of your thoughts on Rory as a coach, ultimately you have to trust Neil to make the changes he deems necessary to the backroom team (also regardless on whether you’re big on Neil or not).
He has to make sure that the replacements who come in can play a big part in helping to change the fortunes of a club who for 5 years has been struggling near enough non-stop. Ultimately, it’s wait and see time at Stoke, transfers, backroom, and finally on Alex Neil. He has a chance to be the man to finally take us from turgid bottom half Championship team to one that can, at long last, compete for those play off spots. Whether he will, who the fuck knows.

You’d imagine Cousins is the next one to go and then this is well and truly Alex Neil’s Stoke City Football Club.
Something about Neil I quite like away from matchdays. He seems ruthless. Best of luck to Rory but he’s clearly been identified as not good enough.

A very curt announcement for a loyal servant of the club. No warm wishes for the future either. I wonder if there was a big bust up involving Neil or others from the management hierarchy.

Heard the Stevenage manager Steve Evans be interviewed on Talksport earlier and when quizzed about the 4th round draw he acknowledged he knows it'll be tough as he knows Alex well as they were brought up a mile or so away from each other!

Apparently, not all heroes wear capes. One of ours had a long throw. Despite the criticism from the “Entitled” , Rory helped us poke a few in the eye and gave us some great memories. Thanks mate

Coaches are only as good as the manager, if the game set up is crap it doesn't matter much how you've been coached. In some cases maybe but we desperately need someone to sort out things like free kicks, corners and throw ins as they've been awful for quite a while now and I imagine that's more up to specific coaches. This isn't a comment on Delap btw, but more about areas where coaches could be heavily involved.
