I thought they all played well but my MOTM was Clarke - I thought he had a cracking game at both ends of the pitch.
Great team performance in only their 2nd competitive match with half a new team - what a difference a week makes!

Great team performance in only their 2nd competitive match with half a new team - what a difference a week makes! There's no way I'd have picked Clarke! Chuffed he got the goal, and also that enough of the lads played well for there to be so much disagreement on MOTM. I thought Tymon was the obvious choice.

Amazing the divergence of views Smallbone I thought was quality Of course he was quality, he was the difference maker, not just what he did with the ball but what his positioning and availability allowed many others to do. Just taking one look at the only person who didn't rate the performance and its not surprise being the one who must go against the grain every time. Oh well.

Amazing the divergence of views Smallbone I thought was quality Would it be fair to say that those that were impressed saw the positive things he was trying and the risks he was taking, while those disappointed didn’t like that those actions didn’t always come off?

I hate making the comparison because of his bald head, but he reminds me so much of Stephen Ireland the way he ghosts about in midfield laying off one touch passes.
Frighteningly similar players.
Good footballer.

I thought Smallbone was about our worst player 😂 Taylor was excellent. Tymon too. Gayle’s workrate but in the right places was a stand out too. Didn’t charge around like an idiot but applied pressure when sensible. Overall an enjoyable game of footy. It’s mad how differently people can see the game. I thought Smallbone was the obvious choice for MOTM with Tymon not far behind him.

Lovely to read Stokies arguing over MoM instead of ( justifiably)slagging every player off. Keep it up lads,.

I was really disappointed by Smallbone. Taylor is a great prospect and looked solid in this stupid 3cb system he's forced to play in You can't be serious?

I thought Flint had a really solid game, Smallbone made a couple of poor passes early in the second half when the ball seemed to come off his shin but then a fantastic reverse to Tymon. Clarke wasn’t great first half but was full of confidence after the goal which was good to see. The only negative was when Gayle came off it showed the limitations of Campbell. ( work rate, pressing, jumping and challenging.

We won one.
Don't anyone change their lucky underwear now, it's too important!
Edit: I really didn't think of the environmental-effects did I? Well f**K that as long as we win.

Really impressed with Taylor. Smallbone showed a lot of quality and awareness of players around him, which is a great asset
Also though flint held his own,
Both goals today by the way were excellent

He's clearly a gifted player, I was expecting more though given the hype, I thought he looked tidy but often took the easy option. I wouldn't say he was a standout today at all. I'm sure he'll improve but there's no point going overboard

The only thing that is mad is 99.9% of fans think Smallbone was excellent and just 1 who doesnt. Theres at least 2 on this thread, plus other comments that he started poorly or things didn’t come off for him. Clive Clarke also gave cautious and qualified praise, and thought he needed hooking 2nd half.

Damned by faint praise indeed.

Smallbone's one touch passing will open lots of defences up and he already seems to have a good understanding with Tymon.
I'm staggered some didn't think he was good. Most excited I've been about a Stoke player in a very long time.
Really liked Taylor too, so composed.
I'm convinced Gayle will score plenty too. Great movement and surprisingly hard working.

Powell is the same. Not always the same types of risky moves, but they both try something more than turning and passing back to the defenders. We need that sort of player, so long as they have enough talent for the risks they take.

The Taylor diving header at the back post in the first half to stop a certain goal was exceptional. He looks like he’s running in slow motion but right place right time - looks full of potential!

Not bad for a Not a Footballer though (not that you’re one of his main critics from what I recall) I do like Browny Just thought he was quiet, normally such a busy player To be fair it’s his first time playing alongside Gayle so maybe a bit unsure. But the improvements in his game are astronomical really. The evidence today suggests he could well step up his standards even more so than last year.
