Admin feel free to merge with the MON thread.
My god he’s not making this easy is he?
Can’t seem to perform at home. Performing well away.
Winning games we don’t expect to. Then losing the winnable.
I’m as 50/50 as they come. I see the sense in keeping faith but I feel the good will is virtually exhausted so maybe we should part company.
It’s a coMONdrum (see what I did there.
Maybe Carol Vorderman knows the answer.

As frustrating this season has been, I think he should see out his contract and the whole of next season to see where we are. We have a very young squad that are still learning, and another season together without ripping up the blue print may just pay dividends. Obviously if next season is no better, then cheerio and thank you for everything.

Is there really much of a conundrum when you weigh it all up?
A man with a handle on the club, settling in his recruitment model, loads of players out of contract/loan after spending two years laying the FFP groundwork. Is trying to play a good brand of football that we are seeing in fits and starts.
Fundamentally not much is broken just a frustrating fag paper difference between the top teams and where we are.
We could rip it all up and start again, or we could be sensible and give him another go next year.
No discussion for me. He has to stay and be backed as much as possible.

Maybe the support away from home is better. More vocal, more supportive . The crap crowd at home puts pressure on the team and the expectation is too high at home and the crowd begins to grumble.
Simples!

Glad it’s not me making the decision, we have lost points in our last 6 easier games, Blackpool, Barnsley,Peterboro, Cardiff, Reading and Bristol City, while winning our 4 more difficult games. From those 6 “ easier” games we took 2 points, another 7 points, entirely reasonable against that opposition, we would still be in the shake up. I am inclined to want a plan from him to dramatically improve our home form and how to break down the poorer teams that we must take points from. The board also have their part to play, the 1997 match day experience doesn’t wash anymore, they need to be innovating to make the home atmosphere play, to our advantage. Price is obviously a tick, but they could also introduce a fanzine, pop up pubs, etc to get the pre match atmosphere building, improve the concourse, introduce safe standing, look at the split between the Boothen and the south stand that splits our noisier contingent, move the away fans, all marginal gains but all in our favour, while MON is the key conundrum, the board have to give him every opportunity to succeed

It kind of negates the idea that MON can't motivate the players. It's a weird one to be sure

The fact that we're Stoke means he's guaranteed to stay. Because we don't do what other clubs are expected to, i.e. sack the manager when he's done as well as could be expected under the circumstances. Had we been WBA, Watford and a bunch of others, he'd be gone, true. But we're not.

I have never called for the manager to be sacked. My reasoning is that MON is a mid championship table manager and that's what we are at the moment, I see no value in getting rid unless we can secure an upgrade after all what's the point of sacking one mid table manager to replace him with another mid table manager. On reflection this season has been horrifically disappointing with us losing to teams we should really have been getting results from and dropping an unfathomable amount of points from winning positions - but we haven't had a single hammering the closet was the away game at Fulham, we've been great in a few matches and even held our own against premier league opposition in the cup, we have had some some shit injuries to key players and some shit decisions by several referees. Who would be an upgrade? I hear people saying Rooney but FFS he's at best a mid table manager, Dyche yeah he'd be a good fit but would he come here and if so could he turn us around? Farke got Norwich promoted and knows this league but was shown up as wanting when asked to make the step up in the premiership. We've already gone down the route of taking a chance on so called upcoming managers - Rowett and Jones and both were disasters and nearly got us relegated into league one. So as the title thread says it is a conundrum do we stick and give MON the chance to learn from his mistakes this season and hopefully keep some of the points we could have had from winning positions and get results against the bottom teams or do we twist and throw millions at the likes of Dyche or Farke without and hope it pays dividends? Gouranga.

It isn't a 'fag paper difference' though is it? It's a Rowett-like inability against teams who don't let you play on the break? That's a much more systemic and fundamental problem than just 'aw shucks, what are you gonna do, maybe next year our luck will be in'?

We'll smash this tin-pot league next season (if we're not so unlucky with injuries). I genuinely think a fully-fit Powell and Souttar would have been the difference this season, and hopefully Campbell will be fit and firing after a pre-season. We'll probably be top come the World Cup then that'll ruin all our momentum somehow, much like the pandemic postponement kicking in after that 5-1 win against Hull.
I don't think O'Neill has helped himself at times this season, but most of the continuity issues have been to constant injuries.
And please no one respond to say Powell is always injured. He'd been available for most games in the previous 4 seasons to this one.

There's no conundrum. He'll be here next season and, if he is to do anything, needs to find a way to beat shit teams that sit deep and counter attack.

Get rid at the end of the season... But we won't and he'll bring in a load of British plodders in the summer and we'll stagnate again in the middle of the division with the odd run but never threatening the top 6

Aup, we’ve won a game have we?! 😉
I’d still rather he goes at the end of the season. I can’t see him taking us anywhere other than mid-table.
I’d like to see who comes out as available once the next managerial merry go round kicks in.
