Without giving out your source, would you say it was reliable?

Free is definitely our price range!
And a local lad who was on our books from the age of 7 apparently.

Born in NUL and a defensive midfielder. Hopefully he can do the defensive bit AND pick out a decent pass. If he can then it is a low risk signing - although, as he is only 23, might be some compensation due to Crewe. But he turns 24 in June - so does that mean no compo would be payable? I am not sure of the exact rule.

If we went ahead with this one, would he be as good as David Platt? Or is he a Dave Brammer?

Would be a good signing if he signed and wouldn't mind Kirk as well.

Looks like he is www.crewealex.net/news/2021/may/artell-on-wintle/Artell has explained that he has had Championship managers and Director of Football’s asking about the former Alsager Town midfielder.
Artell told the club’s official website: “I think the door shut firmly on Ryan a while ago if I am honest and that is not me throwing my toys out of the pram or anything like that.
“He was offered a new contract a long time ago and he hasn’t signed it. I don’t think he will change his mind now and I’ve taken phone calls from Championship managers and Director of Football’s about him, so I would imagine that has progressed somewhere else.”

I am not sure of the exact rule. Most pro contracts finish at the end of June so if he’s 24 when he signs his next contract there wouldn’t be a fee involved

Regardless of quality - I’ve never heard of the lad as per norm - the concept that we will have plenty of players on the books who are on the way up (hopefully) with something to prove feels good. A few experienced older heads around them and lets see how it goes. It’s a different experience than we have had for many a season.

If I’ve heard of them we shouldn’t be signing them. We can’t afford high profile players so if I’ve heard of them they’d be has beens. We’ve done that one to death.

That seems like a sound principle to work on. Mind you it falls down a bit with me because I often read that City or Chelsea or someone have just paid. £ 80 mill for a player and I’ve never heard of them either ! (I can however name almost the entire squads of every Div 1 team in 1975 - I fear I may have some senility issues looming 🙂)

We will not be signing Ryan Wintle. I wouldn't be staggered. The better League 1 Bosmans will have lots of Championship interest, you'd think, especially post-Brexit with the market shrinking. The fact he's local and on peanuts will add to the attraction. Seems to be the type who could split minutes with Mikel? www.playmakerstats.com/news.php?id=285215&nchapter=4Ryan Wintle is a classic Crewe style of player. He is the perfect ‘out ball’ for anyone who gets in trouble in possession. He has excellent technique, tempo and vision in his passing and movement. On the rare occasions when he is unfit or is playing as a makeshift centre back, Crewe’s possession play loses its structure. His diagonal passes to Kirk are the most consistent way that Crewe have unlocked defences this season. His contract is up this summer and if I’m Dave Artell, extending it is Priority Number One. The club may be able to keep hold of him, as Wintle is better suited to teams that play 4-3-3, with him playing as a deep-lying playmaker. His defensive work is tidy and assured but he can still progress as a ball winner and a physical presence. He can look to ex-Alex man Ashley Westwood as a model for where his career could go with a couple more years of development.
