Not sure, but I'm sure one of our elder statesmen on here will tell me.... My first ever Stoke game was a 3-0 home win against West Brom when I was around 9 or 10 years old, so around 1982 Was that the game that sent Leeds down. If it was I was there as a 16 year old sure it was a night game It was Denis's last game. Remember him being carried round the pitch.

Couldn't say for sure but the earliest I remember is Peter Beagrie Glad it’s not just me, I don’t get how people remember these things so clearly. tbf my first live Stoke goal I probably didn’t even know we’d scored never mind who scored it. My old man said I spent most of my time mucking about under the seats. Me too to be honest - had to look mine up, I just knew the first game I went to was Spurs in 1969 and that Jimmy Greaves was playing. Spent much of those matches picking up empty fag packets and was more excited by the crowd and atmosphere than following the game (probably still true today)!

Know it was in the stand where my great grandad had a season ticket. It was a bit boring, full of old folk. Much preferred sitting on the wall in the Butler St paddock when I was a bit older and had some idea what was going on. So close to our heroes then before the fences.

There's been plenty of times I just wish I could get divorced from Stoke bastard City and do something more rewarding with my time - just never quite happens.

Can't remember the first goals I saw live, as my Grandad used to take me as a baby. The first goal I ever saw live when going to matches on my own though was George Berry v Arsenal, 1982.

One I'd LIKE to have seen. Feb. 16, 1952 away game against Villa. I'll bet a couple of you did see it. My dad (rest his soul) was over there in the Air Force at the time and could only manage to see a few home games at the Vic, so I don't know if he heard it on radio or read about it in the paper afterwards. But years later, he relates this outlandish story and I couldn't remember all of it, so I looked it up. I'll be damned if it doesn't match the tale he told.
Denis Herod Stoke goalkeeper puts his body on the line in a challenge and gets his arm broken. No he doesn't go to the bench. With Stoke trying to protect a 2-1 lead, they slot him in at right wing, broken arm and all! But he came to play and Villa didn't mark him so fine ... HE WENT ON TO SCORE! (In "balmy" February)
Contrast that with modern players, who take 3 weeks off for a sprained wrist. . . Contrast that with commentators, "He had a right to go down on that challenge."

Viv Busby headed equaliser just before half time. My dad and my older brother took me. I was nine years old and we were sat in the Leicester end behind the goal!

After a bit of digging, Big Bren v Forest in 1979. Can't remember the goal mind. Significant match in that it was the opening of the new Stoke End stand that night and Forest were European Champions.
