Let's face it, tactical guru Rowett just stuck an extra body in midfield to try and get them a foothold in a game they were fortunate to be level in. It worked. But I'm not sure there's always another a chess move that MON could've countered with to try and regain the upper hand. We're down to the bare bones and if the move was bringing Clucas on, who's not match-fit and has largely stunk the place out this season, it was probably never going to be a killer. It was a tight game between two poor teams. We lost due to a Danny Batth special. Leaving Brown on and putting, say, Cousins on to give Mikel a hand might’ve helped?

First half I thought we looked decent, much more interplay and link up, we just can't seem to do it for 2 halves☹️

The beauty of being a manager at home watching telly. "I would have taken off (insert player who made a mistake) if I was O'Neill" "If we'd played 4 at the back we'd have definitely, 100% won that game" MON has been shocking this season and needs a rocket up his arse. Today is just another example of a continuation of him making the same basic errors. The same basic errors that you often criticise with the benefit of hindsight, none of us ever knowing whether your hypothetical changes would have led to a different outcome. The expansive football you crave could have led to more beatings and less points, but alas we'll never know whether you're Guardiola or Dr Josef Venglos........

Clucas on the left wing eh... Fuck me what a stupid suggestion Why? Allows a goalscorer to be on the pitch and in a role where it doesn’t overly matter if he goes missing occasionally. Adds a threat and a quality crosser. We looked impotent up front. Powell, Brown and Fletcher created one chance of note in the game and nothing else. It need freshening up. Clucas is a central midfielder. He’s never played left wing in his life. Not only that, he’s coming off the back of seven weeks out with a double hernia. If your chucking him in, it’s as an attacking midfielder trying to bomb forward and get a goal.

It was being spoken about at the time on Twitter and usually isn’t hindsight. That’s nonsense.

We'd have won 4-1 if Clucas had come on and played left wing. Batth would have automatically made the clearance and we would have gone on to win comfortably. Everyone can see that......

I think that's the one you could argue about. I wouldn't have taken Brown off today, but who's coming off to facilitate that? I didn't think Thompson was poor It's clear from MON's interview that he knew exactly what Rowett had done, and still felt our personnel could and should deal with it. I never felt we were being over-run, or that they'd got a firm grip on the game. They looked toothless. And we don't know how fit Cousins was. He does always seem reluctant to bring Cousins on (maybe because he's already decided he's leaving in June?)

They were never in any serious problems as we were all possession with no real serious efforts ( Brown aside ) at goal? They probably had the more serious efforts at goal than we did all match

And who's fault is that Michael? Yea it’s his fault for the deadwood. You aren’t very clever are you, 😂 None of today’s squad are the deadwood though so you can’t be to clever yourself 🤔

He started out as a left winger. Ever likely he ended up at the Glen Hoddle coaching school for kids who couldn’t find a club then. He played against us for Hull in the PL and played left wing. He was a winger at Mansfield and also played left wing a lot at Chesterfield, where he also played left back a fair bit too. He only really switched to central midfield in his latter days at Hull and Swansea...

He hasn’t shown much of it this season. Getting out coached by Rowett showing one of those mistakes he keeps making, up again. A balls up by Danny Batth doesn't equate to being outcoached though no matter how many times people type it........ But not reacting to there sub which changed the game in their favour does

I’ve got no recollection whatsoever of Clucas playing as a left winger against us in the Premier League or, in fact, of him ever playing left wing for us.

Yeah, fair enough That would have been the move if one was going to be made earlier. You could see McKinlay and him having a good chat about a possible change, but they obviously decided not to pull the trigger on it. I'm still reluctant to be too critical. The margins are so tight and the spotlight wouldn't have been as bright if Danny Batth didn't do a Danny Batth. I don't think their change gave them control, just made it a more even stodgy mess of a game after (from his point of view) Rowett corrected his initial approach

I assumed you were 🙂 I’ve evidently missed that, though I don’t think anyone on this particular thread is doing that? I agree that the manager is dealing with a shit show and a lot of the criticism he gets is harsh in what is going to be a long and potentially fruitful rebuilding job, but I do think there’s some folk (not you) who are hypersensitive to any criticism of the manager whatsoever.
