I feel for those Bury fans. Hopefully, some kind of club will rise from the ashes. There’s hope for the actual club yet.

The Fails manager showing sympathy with this quote “Obviously the football clubs have been mismanaged. With the Bury situation, it’s hard to feel sorry for them because they won promotion last year. “It’s a form of cheating really - spending money you haven’t got. They had players in there who were on way too much money for the division and that’s why they were promoted. “It’s a shame for the supporters, and that’s who you feel sorry for. Sometimes you also forget that players have mortgages and families, but at the moment it’s making a mockery of League One.” He may have a point...which further emphasises the failings of the EFL to implement it's own rules and regulations

There’s hope for the actual club yet. I heard there was hope for Bolton. Haven't heard that for Bury?? There’s been news breaking this afternoon that a last minute buyer has been found, and local MP’s have presented the case to the EFL in order to reinstate Bury to the league.

I still don't fully understand this to be honest, I've seen conflicting things.
Does the club still exist, but they just have no division? Or are they now totally non-existent?
I thought it was the first option but then I don't understand how they interviewed their captain and said he "now has no club".

If it the case that the bid they thought was going through collapsed at the last minute, it is very unreasonable for the EFL to expect another consortium bidder to have the funds in an account at night time. You can't transfer £7m instantly. If they could have it by 10am today which is what they have done it seems a bit rash of the EFL to have just not waited a day...

As it stands they’re completely non-existent, and if this last minute takeover doesn’t go through, that’s when the asset stripping will begin.

It's not fair to take the club away from the community because the EFL failed to do their job.

What do you mean about Northwich Vics? Lots of people spoke and half the fans went off and formed their own club, 1874 Northwich, the old Vics Chairman is in jail for drug related offences for a start. So 1874 Northwich is the same as Northwich Victoria? Losing The Drill Hall Field which was the oldest football ground in the WORLD to host games is the same as, at one point, ground sharing with Witton Albion? Not really sure what the ex chairman being in jail is relevant to “for a start” you would have to explain that to me. The Vics chairman was well dodgy, he sold the Drill field, then he was on about a delay to the new ground for planning, they ground shared with Stafford Rangers, then Staylbridge I think, they finally got the new ground built but it turned out it wasn't on their land and they didn't own it, a chemical company owned it and they evicted them for non payment of rent and the ground got demolished. The dane bank terrace that had moved from Drill Field to the new ground ended up as the home end terrace for FC united of Manchester. No, Northwich Vics are still going as well, as you say ground sharing at Witton (they did ground share at our village for 1 season) so there is Witton, Northwich Vics, 1874 Northwich, plus a few more Saturday Clubs around Northwich

I think because social media is more prevalent these days people forget about Maidstone, Darlington, Scarborough to name just a few. Hereford only recently were dropped down the pyramid. The Vale manager might have chosen his words better but a lot of lower league fans have been bemused at Bury for years now. What has got my goat up is Pope blarting about it. Bet when they offered 4 grand a week his conscience never asked where is the money coming from on 3000 gates

What I'm saying is that they have had players like Pope Jermaine Beckford Leon Clarke James Vaughan All players from higher leagues who only went for the money. James Vaughan has been at Sunderland and Bradford since Bury. They paid over the odds and I know a Vale fan and Oldham fan very well , they have said for ages Bury have been haemmorraging money by paying incredible wages.

I thought FFP was meant to stop all this - why isn't it working? Is it because of the losses you are still allowed to make? Are they still quite high in League One?

I googled it and the don't seem to: www.efl.com/-more/all-about-the-efl/efl-board/.

That was around the time of the the chemical club debacle though. In irony (or my black humour) I always said that if a few people had just moved a bit more powder, we may still have The Drill Field. I played there. Saw my first real game there. Was there for “THE” cup run of cup runs. Came through The Junior Vic’s side long enough to know my dream of being the next Mick Pejic was exactly that, a dream. Don’t really believe in “second” teams but....as you can prolly gather I do have a soft spot. What I feel for The Trickies must be more like death by a thousand cuts in Bury today, and Bolton soon I would guess. What pass for my thoughts and prayers are with them. COYMP

You have footballers earning absolute fortunes, then you have clubs going to the wall, football is far too top heavy with money, sooner or later football is going to go Tits up. How far down the ladder do you go though ? There are smaller clubs than Bury and Bolton going under, as I said earlier in this thread it’s only 7 years ago Bolton were on the gravy train paying extortionate amounts of wages so in reality you could argue they’ve got some front as clubs like Coventry, Bournemouth and Brighton clung on for dear life back then Sadly it’s football and it’s down to a few horrible individuals who are in it to make money and nothing else, it’s fuck all to do with players wages Good point. The Carlisle manager was recently bemoaning the fact that clubs that stick to their budget and are run responsibly, were at a disadvantage when clubs that overspend were getting help to pay wages etc. These clubs have a responsibility to their patrons, and the Efl have a responsibility to make sure fair play rules are adhered too.

Unfortunately the FL cannot prevent anyone from buying a club. The fit and proper guidelines don't stop a previous owner from selling to who he chooses, I think I'm right in saying you can't legally stop anyone from buying a club if they pay the price. The only thing the FL can do is prevent the transfer of the Golden Share which gives the club membership of the league. If a club proceeds with the sale to an unfit person the only real sanction the League have other than points deduction is to suspend the club's membership of the Football League. My feeling is that denial of promotion back in May and promoting the fifth place team instead would have been the best approach.

Very harsh but I suspect it may be distributed to other clubs to offset the fact that they will not get one match's gate receipts now, vital to their being able to pay their staff. Unfortunately the FL are not responsible for Bury not being able to pay their staff but for the decision to suspend them from the league and so reducing the income of other clubs.

A mate of mine is a big Bury fan and goes to most home games and many away. Says he is angry and gutted at the same time and will spend more time fishing and avoiding football altogther. This after decades of supporting them
