What's Steve Dale's game though? He says one thing and every single Bury fan is saying the other. An absolute travesty if they go out of the league after just coming up from League 2. Bought the club for £1 with little or no due diligence done by the EFL and has spent nothing. If they go under he loses nothing, if he sells he gains a couple of million for doing nothing. Absolute scumbag......

To put Bury situation in context. Alexis Sanchez has earned 26 million in the last 12 months sat on his arse.
For all the great times we had it's as though football never existed pre Premier League.
Sickening

By the sounds of their statement it's more that they didn't have enough time to complete due diligence and rightly didn't want to be rushed into a decision. I wonder if the EFL will extend. “As part of our due diligence, we set ourselves a list of key criteria regarding the CVA, the ground and the overall financial state of the club that had to be met in order for us to be satisfied that we have enough knowledge to proceed with the takeover. It is therefore with regret that we will be unable to proceed with the takeover of Bury FC. This decision has not been taken lightly.“ They were granted the extension to complete the takeover though, I can't see the EFL letting them go back to the well, especially when also in that statement they refer to the fact that the finances get more and more complex than they initially considered.

Steve Dale should be placed in stocks by the FA in the center of the town.

Agree. However, it's not a message that says the deal isn't viable so there might be a very small window of opportunity.

Steve Dale should be placed in stocks by the FA in the center of the town. Only after Stuart Day has had his testicles nailed to Bury Markets gates.

How far down the ladder do you go though ? There are smaller clubs than Bury and Bolton going under, as I said earlier in this thread it’s only 7 years ago Bolton were on the gravy train paying extortionate amounts of wages so in reality you could argue they’ve got some front as clubs like Coventry, Bournemouth and Brighton clung on for dear life back then Sadly it’s football and it’s down to a few horrible individuals who are in it to make money and nothing else, it’s fuck all to do with players wages

It is ridiculous and the divide between the rich at the top and the rest who are struggling is just getting worse and worse. The fact that TV money has completely delinked player wages from what is sustainable from gate money and real commercial activity has led to an escalation which has sunk down the leagues- i.e. the wages paid to premier league players is astronomical and whilst this will in no way be similar in the Champ, League 1, League 2 etc it has definitely pushed up the wage brackets in those leagues to unsustainable levels. Living beyond your means and relying on a fairy godmother (investor) appears to be the only way to fund the majority of clubs these days.

Startling really.......

Why is it just football?

Clubs who set themselves up to run within their financial means are then hounded by the fans for lack of ambition etc. The pressure must be immense- we want this player but he can get X at this club (funded by an investor primarily) and actually we can only offer Y. However if we offer X and get him in then a.) he will get the fans off my back b.) he may help us to promotion and will pay back the loss we are taking in the future etc etc. To answer the earlier question as to why this is different to golf/tennis- well I don't think tennis/golf clubs are relying primarily on TV money/gate receipts to keep them going, they rely on the game being popular to encourage people to want to participate in the sport and come through their doors. Football is knackered as the principles in the above start at the premier league and the bar has been set based on the astronomical wages those players are earning. A player stepping down from the Premier league to a Championship club is asking for X and they want to give Y and so it goes on down the leagues.

Bury have been the architect of their own downfall and it had everything to do with wages. They gate maybe 3500 crowds with away support.
How on those gates can they pay stupid money to Tom Pope Leon Clarke Jermaine Beckford James Vaughan Tom Soares
Plenty of others
It just didn't add up at the time. A lot of lower league fans were bemused and puzzled at their dealings. Sadly it's come home to roost
Some on here won't be familiar with those names but they are or were top players at that level
